Retreat from the cares of the world in this tastefully furnished, one-bedroom, one-bath, oceanfront home.
Punana Aloha, which means 'Love Nest' in Hawaiian, is a one-bedroom, one-bath hideaway on incomparable Anini Beach. Constructed of natural cedar throughout and boasting a wood-burning fireplace, the cottage is the perfect choice for a vacation to simply 'get away from it all.' Restricted to a maximum of two guests, the cottage is ideal for honeymoons or anniversaries.
Located on Kauai's verdant North Shore, Anini Beach is a haven for the traveler who wants to experience the unspoiled natural beauty of Hawaii. Protected by a large outer reef, the quiet waters of Anini are perfect for swimming, snorkeling, fishing, kayaking, windsurfing, and sunning. Follow Anini Road almost to the spot where it dead ends at Anini Stream and you will find Punana Aloha on a beautifully landscaped half acre of land fronting the ocean. The ocean view is unobstructed, and your toes will touch the sand of the beach less than 75 yards from the front door.

Nakea Kauai Vacation rentals offers three properties for rent, a one bedroom ocean bluff condo at Sealodge in Princeville (Kai Nani), a three bedroom beachfront home (Hale Kai) and a one bedroom beachfront cottage (Punana Aloha). The latter two are both located at the secluded end of incredible Anini Beach. All three properties are owned and lovingly cared for by Bob Nakea and his wife, Dotty. Bob is a native Hawaiian whose family's roots on Kauai go back to the 1800's, and Dotty is a mainland transplant who has been in the islands for over 48 years. No attention to detail on the properties is overlooked, and each home is furnished with the comfort of its guests foremost in mind.
** In 2009, Dotty passed on, but Bob and their daughter Suzi, who was also born and raised in the islands, continue to care for these properties and their valued guests.
Suzi Nakea purchased this house in 1980
In the North Shore's idyllic setting you can: swim, surf; sunbathe, scuba dive or snorkel, wind surf (with rental boards and lessons available at Anini Beach Park), go shore fishing, book a deep water charter; beach comb, go horseback riding at nearby stables, hike the island's awesome trails, enjoy gourmet dining, work out at the Princeville Spa (featuring daily and weekly memberships giving access to the latest exercise equipment, large lap pool, Jacuzzi, wet and dry saunas, and numerous aerobics, yoga, aqua -size and weight training classes), pamper yourself with a facial treatment or full body massage, whale watch, take a Na Pali Coast boat tour or a sunset sailing cruise in Hanalei Bay, book a helicopter tour of fabulous Waimea Canyon, play tennis, enjoy worldclass golfing, drive around the island and take in the sights, or just simply lie back and bask in the simple glory of being in one of earth's most naturally beautiful and peaceful places. We will be happy to assist you in your activity planning. Just let us know what you would like to do!
Punana Aloha's location almost at the dead end of Anini Road, where there is only a single row of homes along the beach, means that our guests enjoy quiet and privacy not found along most of the rest of Anini . The protecting reef (one of the largest in Hawaii) assures that the waves break far out and not on the shore, and the calm shoreline and shallow waters make the area in front of the house ideal for swimming and snorkeling most of the year (except during periods of high winter surf).

I almost don't want to do this review and let others know of this hidden gem on the north side of Kauai. Looking for a beautiful, quiet beachfront property where the loudest noises are the many types of birds that live here? This is a beautiful quiet beach, with a large reef resulting in a calm waterfront, which you can see constantly from the large front window of the cottage. This is a place to go and not feel the urge that you must do something-just being here is enough!
We love the North Shore of Kauai, especially Punana Aloha Cottage at the North-end of Anini Beach. We have stayed several weeks in this cottage on the beach for the past three years (and plan to do so in the future); it is an ideal spot to find the true Spirit of Aloha that Kauai offers: (1) base for exploring the island (especially Na Pali coast, Ha'ena, Hanalei, Princeville, Kilauea, Moloa'a and associated beaches), (2) superior place - out front - for SUP (stand up paddling and surfing), swimming and snorkeling (we spent time in the water and saw green sea turtles every day - out near reef and close in-shore), (3) peace and quiet for personal reflection (and writing), (4) visiting with nearby locals (especially Uncle Bob Nakea) and emersing in Hawaiian culture, (5) great kitchen for cooking-in (plus BBQ), and (6) wonderful setting and lush garden. The Nakeas are consummate and responsive hosts, sharing their historic property with island guests. The wifi and land-line phone with free service to the Mainland is a plus (actually a total blessing), as cell service is very spotty. In the end, we could not be more satisfied and recommend Punana Aloha Cottage whole-heartedly!
Anini beach with some of the best snorkeling to be found, is the best location on North Kauai and the Punana cottage is located near the quietest end of the road. The distant ocean roar was the best sleeping aid possible. The last 100 yard of road are just rough enough to keep what little traffic there is to a slow pace. Ideal accommodations for two as the home was quite well equipped including a land phone line as cell reception was spotty. Suzi was very responsive and cordial through the entire booking to post check out. Definately would return again.
This vacation rental was the best of all worlds, right on the beach had a lawn front yard and tropical surroundings, beautiful view of the ocean and a great place to relax and get away. We saw lots turtles, fish and all kinds of ocean life in the water. The cottage was perfect for two. We even named the local rooster "Henry". Loved all the crabs on the beach in the evening. This place is located out just far enough yet within minutes you can be at any of the towns on North Shore.
A peaceful, secluded cottage close to Anini Beach. The perfect place to relax and enjoy the beach and Kauai. We would definitely return if the opportunity arises in the future.
What an amazing experience on Anini Beach. I agree with a previous reviewer that I hate to say how wonderful it is since it will make it difficult for the future for me -- but this was my best experience on Kauai in 6 trips. Suzi & Bob have created a beautiful place not only because of the location, but also the comfort. Everything is maintained so nicely and the kitchen is a great place to cook. This is the first trip to the island where I didn't feel a need to go anywhere but just stay put and walk across the road to the beach -- which I did bright and early every morning to stretch and just take in the beauty. I will definitely be back and hope Punana Ahoha is available. Thank you, Suzi & Bob for this little piece of Heaven.
