About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-7)

Would you like to spend some time in our cozy retreat in the Berkshires? Our three-bedrooms, two bathrooms house is located in a private community, in the middle of the Tolland state forest , surrounded by the woods, but at the same time close to major attractions.

Fully renovated, the house has a large and sunny living room with an office / study area, a modern and fully equipped kitchen, a cozy dining room, a large bedroom and a full bathroom at the main level. Three sliding doors, one each in the living room, dining room and bedroom, bring the outdoors inside, and lead directly onto two large decks, where outside furniture and a gas grill invite you to relax, bathe in the sun, and enjoy your favorite food. You’ll be surrounded by the woods and a small brook running behind the house.

Inside, the walls have tongue-and-groove paneling, the ceilings have exposed beams, the kitchen, bathrooms and dining area have slate floors, while the other rooms have hardwood parquet and wood plank floors. The kitchen is modern and has just about all the utensils you need to do your own cooking. The living room has cathedral ceiling, skylights, comfortable furniture and an entertainment unit. From there, stairs lead to the second floor, where you find two bedrooms and a full bathroom. All the rooms are very bright, with beautiful views of the forest, and nicely decorated to give you a warm and friendly country home feeling.

A short walk gets you to the larger of the two beautiful mountain lakes with pristine water, where one can swim, fish, boat or relax on the beach. Are you a nature lover, looking for a quiet place to rest and hiking trails to explore? The possibilities are almost endless. Do you want to play tennis? Two well-maintained courts await you. Are you interested in star-gazing? You’ll be surprised what you can see on clear nights. Kids can run freely, there are very few cars driving by. Your four-legged friends will be happy to run around, too.

Sounds like a dream vacation? Let’s see if we can make it come true.

Cozy Family Christmas

  • 5 of 5

Meeting up with family from CT and parts of NY for a Christmas getaway sounded like a great idea. We had no idea how lovely this location or cozy the house would be. The size of the space was great for 6 adults and one baby (who takes up a surprising amount of space). The beds were all very comfortable, linens soft, rooms had everything you could need. The decor was very pleasant and the kitchen was well equipped. We enjoyed walking around the community and the roads were basically deserted on Christmas day. The owner was very responsive, helpful and friendly.

The only negative parts of the experience were that the downstairs bedroom stayed fairly chilly at night when the rest of the house was

more than comfortable and the front steps were very icy when the gutter dripped on them and the water refroze.

Overall, it was a great way to comfortably spend the holidays with family and enjoy the beautiful scenery and quiet lakeside environment.

Owner's Response: We have an electric heater if the closet to be used m the bedroom downstairs if it gets too chilly. We also have sand in the garage to put on the steps if they get icy.

Glorious solitude and scenery!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this lovely home during peak foliage and thoroughly enjoyed watching the leaves change from the back decks. Lots of sunshine gives the wood interior a warm honey glow and the beds are super comfortable. The kitchen is supplied with everything you could need to make yourself feel at home. The house is surrounded by woods and we thoroughly enjoyed wandering about them, looking for red trail marks on trees. A brief walk brings you to a beautifully clear pond and is worth a trip or two. We had a fabulous vacation relaxing in these woods!

Lovely quiet retreat in the woods

  • 4 of 5

My parents and I spent 4 days here in September. The house is larger than it looks in the pictures, and it felt a bit large for just the three of us. But it is a very nice, clean and well furnished house in a community around a lake. We had a dog with us that we walked around the community on a leash, community rules require that all dogs are on leashes, unfortunately not all the neighbors dogs were leashed and we had a couple of them run after us (one nasty terrier and one large black dog) as we walked past their houses. Other than that it was a very enjoyable visit. We were in the area for a dog event so were busy each day. As stated in the description shopping is quite a drive. Over 12 miles to a decent grocery store. The closest store is the Granville Country Store "Home of the famous Granville cheese", an old grocery store that is worth a visit (cheese, sandwiches, deli, soups, gas etc) but does not have much in the way of fresh produce. You are not allowed to bring "outside" boats to the lake, which could be a problem for some people.

Owner's Response: The dogs are supposed to be kept on a leash per the community rules. The ones, which were not, may have belonged to unknowing guests. Any problem can be immediately reported to the office. No outside boats are allowed to keep our lakes pristine and avoid algae contamination. We can provide our own kayak to our guests upon demand.

Beautiful large house near the lake

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful time staying here before our wedding. It was a large home able to accommodate three sets of couples with plenty of space for all. The lake is gorgeous and so relaxing . Not many people around making it very peaceful. 30min drive to all nearby bigger towns that are great to go to for nice dinners and things to do. I would come again for sure!

Sweet, quiet little spot!

  • 5 of 5

Even at the height of the high season in August, our weekday sojourn in the cabin was quiet and peaceful -- we barely saw a soul! We enjoyed swimming in both lakes, tromping through the woods, and just soaking up the silence and birdsong on the deck. Nothing fancy, this is just a comfortable, homey cabin in the woods that was perfect for two families. The owner was responsive to all requests. Note that this feels like the middle of nowhere -- you are not close to stores or shops of any kind, so bring what you need.
