Why Susan Little chose Gold Country & High Sierra

We love this area! We love to ski in Dodge Ridge, and play at the nearby snow park, ice skate in Long Barn. We love this neighborhood - there isn't one like it nearby. The neighbors are year-round friendly locals. We can't say more about what a wonderful location this cabin is in.

What makes this cabin unique

We are children at heart, and have children. We have tried our best to incorporate many indoor and outdoor activities to keep everyone entertained. There is wonderful hiking nearby, and lots of things to explore.

Just as described in the listing and had everything we needed. The Atari games were fun!

  • 5 of 5

We were here Thanksgiving week and had one night of light snow. We couldn't go tubing/skiing yet, but had fun playing with the kids in the inch or two of snow near Pinecrest Lake and the Sno-Park. Convenient for a day trip to Columbia State Historic Park, too. We ice skated at Long Barn Lodge on Thanksgiving and practically had the rink to ourselves!

The cabin got warm by the end of the first evening and stayed warm throughout our stay. The loft was a great hangout for our kids (11 and 9). They played with the marble run set and sometimes the Atari, and LOVED not having to share a bed like they would in a hotel room.

The remodeled kitchen and bathroom had everything we needed and then some. Lots of "extra" food items if you are in a pinch, and plenty of plates, silverware, etc.

The "bedroom" downstairs fit my husband and me, but it was tight--no room to walk around. (The TV/Satellite reception was great in there, though!) Not a problem for a three-night stay.

No WiFi or data service in the cabin, which was actually refreshing. A lot of spots along the highway and in the surrounding spots we drove to got data just fine.

We didn't use any of the snow gear, but there was a lot available.

Oh, the tile floors were chilly on the spots that didn't have rugs. I wore my wool socks and I was fine.

Overall, we were very pleased with our home away from home!

I would recommend this cabin. The owners are very nice and extremely accomodating. Wonderful deck, comfortable beds, stocked with many extras (games, DVDs, kitchen supplies (paper towels, zip lock bags, spices, ...) ). Very friendly neighbors.

Little cabin -- perfect snow vacation

  • 5 of 5

Brought my kids up here for a little snow adventure. It was totally awesome. Very good location, easy walk to some nice sledding runs, even one in our backyard. The cabin was chock full of games and books, and very cozy upstairs for the two little ones. The kitchen was very well stocked, plenty of dishes, essentials, pots, pans, etc. Easy access from Oakland!

We would bounce back and forth between sledding and relaxing in the cabin with a nice fire, popcorn & hot chocolate. In the evening we'd play games and I even introduced the kids to the unbelievably well kept Atari game system! Talk about a trip through time, playing Asteroids on that thing. Will definitely plan on returning!

Greatly Enjoyed The Little Red Cabin

  • 4 of 5

Susan (cabin owner) was very attentive and a pleasure to work with. Roomy enough for a family of 4 and even more. Location is close enough for sledding and snow play. Easy to find. Our family enjoyed our 3-night stay. Looking forward to visiting again the next holiday season.

Owner's Response: I apologize for the accessibility - as we are in the snow, and the road is private. (which is great for the kids to play in freely without concerns of cars) When it snows, the cabin can have some difficulty to get to. We are trying to work something out with neighbors who do not want the road plowed (concerns it will become a thoroughfare). Thank you for coming to stay with us!

"Our Man-Cave"

  • 4 of 5

I took my two teenage sons up for a nice weekend getaway. After a little spring cleaning, we found the cabin cozy and comfortable. There was plenty of room and we found the kitchen and livingroom user friendly. What we really enjoyed was the deck in the evening, and the awesomely remodelled bathroom. It had superb shower and sink area, as well as a very useful heatlamp.

They need photos to showcase that bathrrom and deck as well. Thanks for some nice memories
