This is a large, 3,000+ square foot cabin is just 2 flat blocks from the lake. Perfect for family reunions or multiple families to share. There are six separate sleeping areas. No bunk beds. No one has to sleep in the living room. The kitchen is large and well-equipped so cooking and sharing meals together is fun.
You shouldn't have to share a room with your snoring brother-in-law! Our cabin offers plenty of privacy. Three bedrooms on the main level, an enclosed loft with 4 twin beds, a bedroom downstairs, plus a small alcove with a queen futon. (A doorway but no door. Not technically a bedroom but still way better than sofabed in the living room.)
NOTE: I have just switched to the pay-per-booking option. In order to do so I can only accept on-line payments through VRBO.
Be sure to click on the link listed below to view our cabin web page which has more information and many photos.
Beds include: Two Queen, Two Full, Six Twin & One Queen Futon.
The house is two flat blocks from the north end of the two lakes. Our canoe is stored, at the community beach, ready for your enjoyment, a 20 minute walk, a 7 minute (level) bike ride or 5 minutes by car.
Serene Lakes is a hidden gem just a few minutes off of I-80. Summers are low-key and relaxed. No crowds. Hike, bike, swim, canoe, explore. No need to drive far, if at all. Perfect for kids. Of course Truckee, Donner Lake, Tahoe and Reno are nearby if you want a change-of-pace.
Many of our summer renters are repeat visitors. Two groups have rented from us for nine years!
Two of the bathrooms were remodeled in 2008. The carpet on the main level and loft is new as of Nov 2009. In the Spring of 2010 we added a 46' HDTV with DirecTV and DVR. In November 2010 we replaced the stove and dishwasher. Summer 2011 we rebuilt and relocated the back deck and front deck and stairs. (No choice on this project. The previous winter was brutal.) In November 2012 we purchased a new, larger, fridge. Upkeep and maintenance of the cabin is very important to us.
Due to several unfortunate experiences we no longer allow pets.
Linens are not included in the rental, sorry.
Please note: the cabin is not available from Thanksgiving to May 1. Sorry NO WINTER RENTALS!

We love to ski, hike, mountain bike, road bike and swim without ever leaving the immediate area.
The Owner purchased this house in 2000
I first discovered the area as a teenager, staying nearby at the Sierra Club's Clair Tappan Lodge and skiing at Sugarbowl. In 2000 a dream came true when we bought this place. Now that we have enjoyed 10 summers and winters here I love it as much as ever.
One of my favorite ways to spend the day is to take the 3-mile drive on a dirt road followed by a short hike to Long Lake to swim in the cool clear water. Big granite rocks perfect for diving or lying in the sun line the shore.
Ideal for big families or large groups of close friends who love cooking together and enjoy hiking in a peaceful, pure environment. Fulll kitchen, 3 full bathrooms which are well maintained. The master bedroom is large enough for a couple with kids, mattresses provided. Easy to keep in touch with the owner, who is willing to answer all of our questions about the facility. Information provided is sufficient , no possible confusion.
The owner Lorrie was very accommodating before we got there. Amazed at the room available. Fun basement with pool and Foosball and lounging room. The deck is cleverly lit, shaded from the sun during the day and surrounding by the sights, smells and sounds of California forest.
Oh, and the kitchen... Holy smokes! You could prepare dinner for 2,000. Not wanting for space, utensils and cookware or counter tops.
Not one thing of which to be critical. We'll be back — with more people!
Great place to stay. Huge home with great common spaces, well stocked kitchen with good layout for large group. We had 7 people and could have handled 7 more easily! Lorrie was very attentive and easy to work with! Beautiful area and clean, comfortable home!
Only minor suggestions: upstairs railing to kids bunk room was a little wiggly and would suggest securing it as our little ones used it for stability; and, would have screens in the sliders to the deck! Enjoy more fresh air but didn't want to invite bugs in! Thank you Lorrie for letting us enjoy your home!!!
Loved being here, so roomy and comfortable inside, lots of light, front and back porches, BBQ. When you are tired of relaxing inside, hikes on the east and west ridges begin a 5-10 minute walk from the front door. Other hikes a short drive. Truckee with everything you want only 15 minutes. Was here with my wife and two other friends for a week, and no one felt at all crowded! Will come back next again!
Our ski patrol rented this property for 5 years in a row in October to hold our annual refresher. We have a small patrol of 12 but all of us plus a few spouses were able to fit comfortably! The new deck is an awesome breakfast spot to enjoy the great Serene Lakes weather. The mountain biking in the Serene Lakes area is outstanding for all levels. We enjoyed the canoeing on the lake as well. This area is close to all of the Truckee & Donner Lake amenities, but you can just stay in Serene Lakes and have tons of fun.
We rented this house las August for a reunion of three families with kids and it was perfect. The kitchen is large & very well equipped for cooking for many. There is a large dining table that sat our whole group of 14. The bed set-up was perfect- we had a crew of teens who took over the loft, and then us adults got the comfy, quiet bedrooms. With 3 large baths there were no lines for showers. We hung out on the deck and BBQ'd several evenings. The kids liked the lower floor with the ping pong, pool table & foosball. It's REALLY nice it is downstairs as that keeps the noise with their blaring music at a minimum (and we could play our music upstairs!).
The location is great- you can walk to Serene Lakes for a swim, a canoe/kayak, etc; bike around the neighborhood and over to the national forest area where there is access to many mtn biking & hiking trails. Tons of hiking near by with the PCT & Donner Summit a few min away. The location in the neighborhood is quiet - the deck is nestled among the pines and was a great place for a quiet cup of coffee in the morning.
The owner is very easy to work with. She has a big binder listing so many fun things to do in the area that we will be back!
