We Concur! It is the Best Downtown Spot!

  • 5 of 5

It is indeed the best downtown waterfront home. We travel to the greater Seattle area frequently to visit my daughter and granddaughter , so we are familiar with many vacation homes. This was a last minute trip, so we were not able to go with our regular vacation home. However, that turned out to be a good thing because we were able to stay at Gig Harbor Guest House. It was absolutely perfect for what we needed. The home is much more spacious than the pictures convey, well-appointed, and the kitchen is a great size. The kitchen had everything we could possible need in terms of utensils, gadgets, and even sweet little kid dishes, which were perfect for our 4 year old granddaughter. There was also a nice assortment of games and kid's books. There was amply closet space, including some little short-sized closet, that my granddaughter loved being inside of like a little play house.

It was by far the cleanest home we have ever stayed at; the linens were top rate. We appreciated the minimalist decor, keeping everything feeling fresh and spacious. The towels were wonderfully thick and the linens soft and cozy. Beds were comfortable and the pull out couch comes in handy when needing a little more sleeping space. The open loft was fine for us. Everything was so well-organized that it made keeping things tidy a breeze. (We like tidy even when vacationing!) There is a fabulous spacious indoor laundry room, that made me wish I was staying longer.

The outdoor deck is like mini therapy everyday. We spent early mornings and evenings sitting outside sipping coffee and cocktails, respectively. And, even though there are businesses nearby and there were many boats docked and out on the water during the Memorial Day weekend, it was still very quiet. I think because it is not a typical residential area, that is a bonus. We loved seeing the netting work taking place on the front part of the property, where a young man was learning the craft. And we loved seeing all of the supplies related to marine living around the property, very cool!

Last, we were able to walk to everything we needed, great restaurants, shops, and kayak rentals. We definitely appreciated having Suzanne's Cafe next door. [Insider tip: they offer an egg/bacon breakfast sandwich that is not on the menu.]

Marlene is great at communicating and was so helpful with our last minute reservation. We are already looking at our calendar to see when we will be back.

Gig Harbor Guest House

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful view of the harbor and quiet escape. The house has many great features including the most comfortable bed, cooking area, fireplace that heats the place quickly, and laundry facilities. Be prepared to walk downstairs to the bathroom as it is on the first floor... better to not go to the gym during your holiday! Thank you to the owners for coming down and sorting out the cable when it went out the first day and providing a fantastic basket of goodies for a warm welcome. Cheers.

Owner's Response: We are glad you enjoyed your stay ! Thank you for the excellent review and thank you for being an excellent guest. By the way, I appreciate that you see the positive in having the queen size bed upstairs and the bath downstairs. I do try to make sure that is clear to visitors before they book and for the less energetic, I also mention that the sofa adjacent to the bath does open into a fairly comfy bed.... Anyway, we were happy to host you and hope to have the opportunity to do so again in the future.

Excellent All-Around!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed at the Gig Harbor Guest House for 12 days. It was a most enjoyable and pleasant stay. Without hesitation, we highly recommend the Guest House. The house is as close to the water as one can be, very close to the historic downtown, quiet, modern, and just a superb place to stay and kick back. Marlene is an excellent hostess. She provides everything that a guest would expect and wish to have to make a stay comfortable. And before you leave take a look at the name of the dock and the pictures of the fishing boats on the walls - there is a fascinating connection with local history and heritage! Great place - highly recommended.

Perfection is the word to describe our 3 week stay at the Gig Harbor Guest House this past summer!

The owner was very helpful with making the arrangements and providing all the needed information. The Guest House was just so wonderfully amazing it’s hard to know where to start.

OK. The view! Sheer joy to wake up to it each morning. The Gig Harbor Tourist Magazine for Summer 2013 had THE EXACT SAME VIEW on its cover—just to give you an idea of how good it is.

The Guest House itself was spacious, bright, and immaculately clean and had everything we needed and more. All kinds of cooking utensils, appliances, dishes, glassware, nice linens and an entire drawer of Trader Joe’s spices were provided. There were lots of books, magazines, and children’s items. The house was decorated with pictures of fishing boats. The modern house sits just above one of the historic net sheds and belongs to a descendant of one of the original Croatian fishermen who settled there. The pictures are all of family boats. There was a huge basket of yummy Trader Joe’s goodies on the counter to welcome us.

My husband was weak from cancer treatments and then broke his leg after we made reservations. So, we slept on the sofa bed downstairs the whole time. Thankfully, it was completely comfortable and felt like a normal bed.

Our son, DIL and 5 granddaughters live in Gig Harbor. So, the grands got to have sleep-overs with us and do fun harbor activities. They all said having us there was like being on vacation in their own town. The location could not be better! A wonderful bakery/deli is practically next door. From there you can walk (and I did it pushing hubby in a wheelchair) in either direction to both ends of Harbor View Drive. Lots of good restaurants, candy store, gift shops, a wonderful boat house, etc. PLUS, in the summer there is a concert in the nearby park each week, a Farmer’s Market in the park twice a week, and a Trolley Stop just in front of the Guest House where a cute red trolley gets you to most any place you would want to go in Gig Harbor for shopping or entertainment.

About Marlene

We have so many great memories from when we lived on Harborview -

We hope our guests will also have many happy times in this wonderful house!

(The photo is Marlene and Rhubarb, mascot of the Tacoma Rainers, not her spouse....!)

Why Marlene chose Gig Harbor

Gig Harbor is a terrific place to live or visit!

What makes this house unique

The house was built in 1993 and recently updated, but the location is full of family history and remains a vibrant part of the community. It is great to be in such a peaceful location that is oriented to enjoy the harbor and also be able to walk out the front door and be near all the shops and restaurants and activities going on in our town's main street.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for helping to make our Christmas & New Year such a special one. The house is really a gem with its incredible view of the harbor. We loved watching the boats go by, both at night with their seasonal lights & during the day with the bright white hulls against the dark bay....

The history of this little spot on the harbour really enchanted us. The family momentos & photos are charming.

We enjoyed the lovely basket with holiday treats and the Zoolight tix! The bubbly was perfect for New Year & the snowmen made the holiday bright.

Looking forward to staying with you again! Happy New Year!
