Can't Wait to Go Back!

  • 5 of 5

This was a great place to stay for our family vacation. My wife and I along with our 11 year old daughter spent 8 days at the cottage. The location was fantastic as everything was an easy drive. Each day we were here, we were able to visit so many places and sights that the island had to offer. We visited Hanauma Bay, Dole Plantation, Punchbowl, Makaha Beach, North Shore, among others. The location of the cottage allowed for easy day trips to see the entire island. The most beautiful of all the beaches was actually right across the street, just steps away. We spent many mornings enjoying a cup of coffee while sitting on the beach during sunrise and finished most of our days with a quick, relaxing swim right there.

Another of the many reasons we would stay here again was the fact that you can wake up and prepare breakfast to start your day versus having to eat at a restaurant every meal during your trip. This definitely saved some money in the long run as well. We were also able to cook dinner on the gas grill at the cottage.

The last and most important reason we would stay here again is the owners of the cottage. From the first inquiry we made regarding availability, they were so helpful and answered all of our questions. Upon arrival, my family were truly greeted as though we were members of their family. We felt so welcomed and yet never once felt that we weren't given our own privacy. In fact, on a personal note, we wish we could have spent more time "talking story". They were very willing to share local knowledge (especially where to get the freshest fish to cook on the grill!) as well as suggestions of other sights to see.

I would absolutely recommend staying at this beach cottage and can't wait to see our new friends again!

Extraordinary Experience & Memories

  • 5 of 5

In search of the true meaning and spirit of Aloha, then look no further!!

While interactions with the owners was not a requirement during our stay, their gracious hospitality quickly made us feel welcome and we sought opportunities to simply “talk story”, as our schedules and direct interactions permitted throughout our stay.

Comfortably decorated in a pleasant seaside decor, the Beach Cottage provided ample space for three adults, using the king-sized bed and the futon during our stay. Full kitchen, to include a microwave, has sufficient cookware and utensils for meal preparations, if this is your desire. The available deck, furnishings, and weather combined for an outstanding opportunity for eating our meals outside, with the sounds of the surf, wind through the trees, birds, and geckos providing the background music, depending on the time of day.

Secluded backyard provided the ideal location for star-gazing, as well as putting some of the lessons learned at the Bishop Museum’s J. Watamull Planetarium during our visit into practice, before turning in for the evening.

If cooking meals is not on your list of things to do while on vacation, the Garlic Shrimp & Kalbi or the Garlic Ahi & Steak from Ono Steaks and Shrimp Shack in Waimanalo are highly recommended. Depending on your preferences, there are a variety of restaurants available in Kailua and Hawaii Kai (approx. 15-mins in either direction). Although a slightly longer drive, Honolulu also offers many additional restaurants and sightseeing opportunities to meet most personal tastes and desires.

Located directly across the road from Waimanalo Bay, the Beach Cottage provides you with the option of simply walking down the driveway and across the road to get to the beach or driving to a nearby beach. Nearby beach choices include Kailua, Lanikai, Bellows AFB, Waimanalo Bay State Recreation Park, or Sandy, or the Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve, all within a 15-min drive. Although the view from the end of the driveway for watching the sunrise is unobstructed, the ability to simply walk across the road and down to the beach enhances the experience; especially when the sand crabs are running back and forth across the sand.

The Beach Cottage at Waimanalo is highly recommended for anyone preferring to relax and experience the wonders and warmth of Hawai’i.

Mahalo Nui Loa to Koa and Rose for a most memorable stay!!

Owner's Response: We had many occasions in the morning to cross paths and engage in conversations of where to go and what to see. We shared similar military service backgrounds and had lots to talk about. They were truly a wonderful family and we appreciated adopting them as our own. We felt we knew each other for years even though this was our first meeting. They travel alot and we hope to see them someday in the future. We were lucky to have them as our guests.

Great place to stay and easily accessable to all

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I went with my 9 year old son and 4 year old Daughter. This place was everything as advertised and more. Rosina and her husband prepared everything about this place and didn't leave about a single detail. They were also such gracious hosts. The town of Waimanalo is very small and quiet, yet large enough to provide everything you need. Its close to Honolulu as well as some of the places we went to such as The North Shore, Polynesian cultural center, Pearl Harbor and other nearby beaches. On that note, the beach closest to the cottage was very beautiful and a great place for kids to play in. Can't wait to go back.

There are no words to describe the exceptional and most wonderful hosts, the remarkable and lovely people who I consider my very dear family, the most beautiful cottage with the stunning gazebo and the prettiest yard where I spent my vacation. It was paradise in every sense of the word!

Thank you very much Rose, Koa, and M. for everything. I enjoyed every second of my stay in your magnificent cottage.

Amazing Place...Amazing People!

  • 5 of 5

If you are planning to stay on this end of the island...THIS is where you want to spend your time!

First off, the location is perfect. Situated directly across the road from beautiful Waimanalo Beach (I would just throw on my swim suit, walk to the beach barefoot, take a dip and come back and shower off in my own private outdoor shower), about a half mile from a great local co-op store that has fresh local, organic produce AND the most fabulous Ahi Poke on the island, only 10 minutes from both Kailua and Hawaii Kai - with all the shopping amenities you could ask for - yet you remain in a small local community that feels mellow, homey and friendly.

Next, the cottage itself and the surrounding property are as described if not better. The cozy, bright and cheery cottage immediately felt like home when I walked in. It contains every imaginable amenity you need, plenty of closet and dresser space, fully equipped kitchen, loads of towels and blankets, etc. Then outside there is this wonderful gazebo, complete with comfy couches and lounging chairs. I had this all to myself and spent a LOT of time out there. From there I could see the towering cliffs during the day and the stars by night. Truly a little slice of paradise.

Last, but surely not least, the hosts Rose and Koa are unbelievable gracious and sweet people. They not only responded to every little question I had immediately and completely, but went out of their way to make me feel at home and like one of the family. But...they didn't encroach on my space. Chatting with them is a pleasure, and being long time local residents they know everything there is to know about the island.

Okay...enough said. Can you tell I loved it here? :-) If you choose to stay here you won't be disappointed.

Very nice cottage, across the street from a beautiful stretch of beach. Rosina and Koa the owners are very gracious, full of knowledge, and kind. Cottage gives a nice tropical feel. Sitting in the gazebo in the evening with the trade winds blowing is relaxing. hope to stay there again.
