Ocean City, New Jersey is a world famous seashore community located in the heart of the Jersey Shore. At the northern tip of Cape May County, it is perfectly situated for a vacation; just 20 minutes from Atlantic City, 60 minutes from Philadelphia, and two hours from New York City.
It's all good! The beach has opportunities for swimming, boating, fishing, para sailing and more. The bay offers boating, jet ski, kayak, paddle boarding and fishing of all kinds. However, away from the more crowded venues there are many other kinds of enjoyment, many based on the environmental resources of the island, which do not receive the same kind of publicity.
The flavor is a cross between seashore casual and Philadelphia, and it is uniquely Ocean City. The light side of culture is also well represented in the fun-filled activities that are sponsored by the city for the benefit of visitors and residents alike. The Martin Z. Mollusk day and Miss Crustacean Contest, to the decorated boat parade on the bay in July known as Night in Venice, the Baby Parade in August and First Night Celebration and beautiful fireworks over the ocean on New Year’s Eve, with a large number of events in between, the city has made a concerted effort to welcome and entertain folks.
Most of these events are held at Ocean City's Historic and beautiful Music Pier for info and events see www.ocnj.us
The History!: The Ocean City Tabernacle was built between Wesley and Asbury Avenues and between 5th and 6th Streets. Camp Meetings were held by the following summer. In 1879, four Methodist ministers, Ezra B. Lake, James Lake, S. Wesley Lake and William Burrell chose the island as a suitable spot to establish a Christian retreat and camp meeting on the order of Ocean Grove. They met under a tall cedar tree, which stands today in the Lobby of the Ocean City Tabernacle. Having chosen the name Ocean City, the founders incorporated the Ocean City Association, laid out street and lots for cottages, hotel and businesses.

Just What We Needed!
This was a great September beach rental. Comfortable beds, fully stocked kitchen, plenty of room, friendly neighbors, pet friendly, nice porch for morning coffee and afternoon cocktails, convenient to downtown and the boardwalk, about a ten or fifteen minute walk on Sunday morning to church and then Brown's for donuts, five minutes to Wonderland, and even more that I can't think of right now. We had three cars and parked right in front of the house all week long with no problems. Monique was a pleasure to deal with, as were the people living upstairs. The place was clean and inviting and I have nothing but good memories of our stay here. Thank you Monique!
It was a nice rental in a great location.
We enjoyed our week and would recommend it to others. It’s nice being downtown and close to restaurants and shopping.
It was exactly as advertised - close to the beach, stores and restaurants. The kitchen, master bedroom and living rooms were spacious and well designed. The other rooms were totally functional and bright. There is an outside shower, which we used to clean our dog before re-entering the apartment. We'll book again!
Great September Get-a-Way!
Really enjoyed my stay in this unique and pet-friendly unit! Located in the historic/residential district, the street was both quiet and friendly and convenient to places to walk my dog. The unit was clean and smelled fresh, and every comfort was provided. I enjoyed the décor - old charming building but with a bit of urban flair inside. Monique, the owner, was a pleasure to deal with from start to finish and responsive and flexible in every way. Could not be happier and will definitely stay here again.
Very Nice Pet-Friendly place
Our fam ily stayed in this pet-friendly, lower-level place the last week of July, 2013. It was just as it was advertised and did not disappoint. Pluses are the spacious kitchen and the seating on the front porch.
We loved the location, which is about a ten minute walk to the boardwalk and just one block from Asbury Ave with all its shops and restaurants. Having Ocean City Tabernacle just steps away was and and unexpected bonus. We LOVED the service there on Sunday morning, plus the farmer's market on Wednesday was terrific. I was a little conc
erned that being so close to the firehouse would result in lots of sirens, but that wasn't the case at all. Some minor cons I would mention include lack of food storage in the kitchen (which has lots of counter space but little storage) and one other thing is that there is a rental property directly above, which results in some noise in this unit. In our case, we heard kids running around during the waking hours, but to us that wasn't a big deal. Also the neighbor to the north played his music slightly loud, but it was harmless stuff from the 80's and wasn't too annoying, and was only noticeable when on the front porch.
Parking was never an issue. We could usually snag a spot right out front in the evening; in the day we typically used the municipal lot about a block away.
My only complaint about the listing is that it says linens provided, but you do need to provide your own bedsheets and mattress pads plus your own towels. Maybe this is typical for OC, but since we're newbies we weren't sure. Good thing we brought our own stuff just in case.
It's impossible to list all the nearby attractions we recommend, but here are a few: OC Tabernacle; Annie's 8th Street Cafe; Nonna's Trattoria; Primos Hoagies; and the coffee shop at 9th and Asbury whose name I can't recall.
Thank you for review. I'm so glad you took advantage of the assets the Historic District has to offer. I love the farmers market too and that you can walk to most anything!
After Hurricane Sandy and the ENTIRE apartment was redone we had to rip out 4' from the floor everywhere. The apartment was virtually see thru. I imagine extra hooks and such for towels went away with the demolition; however, we did everything we could do to save floor space like mounting the tv and entertainment stand and will certainly consider your suggestions for fall updates.
As far as kitchen space, it was REALLY tiny before and in post storm re thinking. I had the option of a little more cabinet space which I did or add little more cabinetry or a dishwasher. The dishwasher won :)
I'll also check the listing and if it says linens provided I'll remove it. We do have linen service available if someone wants it. The rental agreement states: "Blankets and pillows are provided" Possibly that should be reworded for greater clarity.
This has been another super year of being fully booked. Returing guest loved the update.
We're very happy to provide a sweet rental that's pet friendly.
We stayed over July 4th weekend and everything was great. The rooms are clean and open, with plenty of room to spread out. Parking in the rear is a huge amenity. Bathroom is large, kitchen is on the smaller side but since there is a gas grill it was no problem with meals. We would definately stay again.
Golf: Ocean City Golf Course In its tradition of family fun, the City of Ocean City owns and operates a twelve hole, par 3 golf course that is open to the public. The golf course is a great place to go in the morning before hitting the beach, after a beach day to unwind or as an alternative for a change of pace from the sand and sea. Set in the scenic meadows of the bay area, the golf course provides a beautiful and fun way to spend a few hours of the day in OceanCity. All ages are welcome, but children under 12 years old must have a parent with them. To play, each person must have their own golf bag. Clubs are available for rental as well as hand carts and riding carts. The Ocean City Municipal Golf Course is located on Bay Avenue at 26th Street. Winter hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and summer hours are 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The golf course has a pro shop and memberships are available.
