Overview

About the property

Vintage Townhome, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Just 4 short blocks from the extended or short-term Hilton Home2 Suites is a complete house with the same amenities, but with two bedrooms, two baths, a large dining-living area, carport, patio, free WiFi -- at so much less per night -- and deep discounts for weekly or monthly stays.

Emphasizing organic bedding, full kitchen with organic staples, and sustainability, our 'Town & Gown Guesthouse" is the recently-updated end unit in a row of 8 connected cottages (think San Francisco, think London): as charming and as centrally-located as you can get! We also have off-street, covered parking for guests with cars.

Sleeps 6. Upstairs: two bedrooms with queen beds. Downstairs: a new Ashley queen sofa sleeper. We provide organic sheets, pillowcases, and blankets, plush towels, and down comforters. We use organic cleaning products only.

Enjoy our beautiful, full kitchen with new stainless appliances, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, blender, and service for 6. A high-end (Bosch) washer and dryer, iron and ironing board, and biodegradable/organic laundry products are available for your use, as well as a high chair and play n' pack for your little one.

Eat in the dining room or outside, in our brick-paved, private patio and summertime herb garden: basil and oregano, and sweet woodruff for cooking or for tea (just add boiling water). Smell the roses: pick some for indoors, if you wish.

Musicians take note: we provide a beautiful, old Hinze upright piano, well-tuned!

Everything is within walking distance: 1-4 blocks to a wide range of dine-in/take-out eateries (including vegetarian and vegan), breakfast and coffee shops, and Newman's fresh fish market (with fish & chips takeout); 2 blocks to a playground; 4 short blocks to a large Safeway and Walgreen’s; 6 short blocks to the beautiful, new public library, a natural/organic grocery and wine shop, many downtown restaurants, and the central bus station. You’re less than a mile from Eugene’s Performing Arts (Hult) Center and the UO campus.

Or take the bus! Route #36 (to downtown) stops 1/2 block from our door. Going to the new Matt Knight arena? Transfer downtown to the new EmX. How about the UO? Bus 78 is just two blocks away. For Autzen Stadium football games, just park downtown and cross the river on a footbridge.

Please tell us a little about your planned stay; it helps us to know who we are speaking with and encourages a successful lodging match. If we don't know your situation we probably won't accept your booking. Thanks in advance.

About Ingrid Wendt-Salisury

Still together after 45 years of marriage, Ingrid Wendt and Ralph Salisbury are both widely published authors and teachers of creative writing at all grade levels, from kindergarten through graduate school MFA programs. They live full time in Eugene, OR, where Ralph has retired from the University of Oregon. Why Ingrid Wendt-Salisury chose Eugene

Having traveled, ourselves, to many cities in the U.S. and abroad, we've always sought lodgings where we could enjoy the liberation of walking (or using public transport) wherever we wanted to go. We've also enjoyed lodgings with an 'old world,' historical feel. Now we delight in offering these pleasures to visitors to Eugene: an updated, vintage home in a quiet, older neighborhood, within walking distance of a wealth of happy discoveries.

What makes this house unique

Eugene may be known for its 'liquid sunshine,' but even in storms, our house is cozy and warm, and well-stocked with environmental magazines, novels, poetry, puzzles, and games. You can even read the framed poems of some of our writer friends on the walls. We provide city maps, menus from nearby restaurants, suggestions on day-trips around and outside of Eugene, and the offer of free advice for guests with questions about the area.

Perfection!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I could not have asked for more in a house rental. After traveling across country, we loved stepping into a beautiful, clean, updated home - truly a home away from home. We so enjoyed the fresh flowers, bread, butter, and coffee that Ingrid provided us. Ingrid also responded quickly and graciously when we needed her assistance. The house is within walking distance to restaurants, a grocery store, and other commercial establishments. We most enjoyed the walk into downtown Eugene - it gave us much needed exercise! Thank you, Ingrid!

Owner's Response: Peggy, thank you for this lovely review (as well as the one in the guestbook)! I'm so glad you enjoyed staying in our Town & Gown, which we chose for just the reasons you mention: the updating, and the walking distance to so many places! It was a true pleasure meeting you and Tony, and helping you get settled. You were the perfect guests, and I hope to see you on your next visit to Eugene!

Will return as often as possible!

  • 5 of 5

This was my 4th stay at Ingrid's lovely home. So comfortable, well appointed and centrally located. The only reason I don't stay here when in Eugene for more than a night is if it is already rented to someone else! Ingrid thank you for truly making our stays feel like home away from home.

Great location, cute house, and comfy beds.

  • 4 of 5

House is in a great location for walking to restaurants and grocery stores. The beds are really comfy and the home is quiet. Would stay here again if in the Eugene area. Ingrid was a find host and shared ideas for places to eat/visit. Only recommendation would be to update the TV. It is a little outdated and not the best picture.

Owner's Response: I'm happy you would stay here again, Melinda. We'd love to have you! And about the tv, I've actually purchased a 42" HDTV, and have been looking for some free time between guests to install it!

Lovely Eugene Guesthouse

  • 5 of 5

Truly enjoyed my stay at Town and Gown Guesthouse on my recent visit to Eugene for Spring Family Weekend. It is a beautiful place, quiet and comfortable. The owners also provided a welcoming touch with a loaf of delicious cinnamon walnut bread from a local bakery plus freshly ground coffee, half and half, butter, juice etc. The cupboard was well-stocked also. Fresh flowers on the dining room table and in the bedrooms were an extra lovely touch. Lots of good restaurants in the immediate area. Great location, hope to return again. Really special.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much, Ana, for this warm review. It means a lot to know that you enjoyed the house and the amenities we provide, as well as the location we chose with guests' needs in mind, and that you took the time to let future guests know what they might expect. I'll look forward to your return!

Great & convenient rental

  • 5 of 5

Loved the house! Perfect for our long weekend at UofO for our daughters' volleyball tournament. Three moms shared the house and it was perfect. Loved the charm of the older home. House was well stocked and fresh flowers and goodies greeted our arrival. Awesome location close to everything - tons within walking distance. Ingrid was great to work with - would definitely stay here again! The other parents that booked hotel rooms were jealous of our accommodations!!

Great place and very convenient for our visit

  • 5 of 5

We had a delightful time at our place. Weather was not good to do outside activities so we used the place more during the day than we thought we would. Kitchen was great and other areas were more than adequate. Would stay again when visiting Eugene.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the nice comments, Mary Kay. You folks were great guests and I'm so happy the house was warm and comfortable for you, and you were able to enjoy being indoors during our highly-unusual cold snap! I look forward forward to hosting you again!
