Great vacation, with a few items that should be addressed

  • 4 of 5

The location of the vacation rental is ideal, only 5-10 minutes from Cranbrook and right on a safe, clean lake. The inside of the cottage is well-furnished and our overall vacation was fantastic. We saw deer, ducks, and the beautiful painted turtles. Very nice! There were 13 of us from different parts of the country there to celebrate my parents' 50th wedding anniversary. We knew that there were only 2 bathrooms, which definitely was a challenge, but the size of the kitchen was an unexpected challenge as well. It is an 'apartment' size kitchen, and any more than 1 or 2 people in there at a time is quite comical! The dishwasher is half the size of regular dishwashers, and when you're cleaning up after 13 peoples' meals, this gets to be a lengthy process. We ended up buying paper plates to speed up the cleanup after meals. The floating dock and dock from the shore are both nice, although do not go barefoot or you will get slivers! The disappointing part was getting on the dock. There were planks and ramps that we needed to balance on in order to get onto the dock. For the amount that is charged to rent the cabin, I would hope that the access to the dock would have been less hectic. Carrying an armload of towels and bags, while walking on a 'balance beam' to get to the dock is quite challenging! The cabin is advertised as including a canoe and paddle boat and I had inquired about both prior to our arrival. I was told on July 4th that the paddle boat was being repaired, but did not see it at all throughout our stay and we checked out on July 16th. There is an unsightly RV on the property (the place would look so beautiful if some money was spent on landscaping!), with a video camera recording us. The patio umbrella was broken and the picnic table near the firepit should be removed. It is quite old and looks very fragile. We had great weather, with 30+ degrees temps all week. It was so great to spend the time in the water! This heat made for a very warm cabin, so bedroom fans would have been appreciated. All in all, we had a wonderful time and did not let the 'negatives' ruin our trip. I just want to make people aware before booking so that they can make an informed decision. We would likely book again, but our expectations would be lower. I really hope that some of these issues would be addressed prior to our return - it truly is a beautiful place, that needs some TLC!

Very nice Home

  • 3 of 5

This home is very nice with big roomy sitting areas. Fantastic view of the lake! Nice big Deck with new large Barbecue. Cons: The kitchen is quite small and cooking utensils are limited. I suggest bringing a few of your own pots and pans if you are planning to do a lot of cooking. On a bright sunny day the main floor gets very warm as there are no blinds on the windows. The lower floor stays nice and cool even. There is no A/C. The lower level patio doors lead onto a shaded gravel patio to get out of the sun. The yard does need some TLC. This was being looked after as we were leaving. The dock and swimming dock are fantastic with ladders on both! The walkway to the dock is just boards but the owner has also hired someone to improve this. The owner also just provided a better canoe at the end of our stay. The lake is fantastic, clean and great for swimming and fishing! The beach is also just a short 5-10 minute walk and great for kids.

House is nice but that's where it ends.

  • 3 of 5

I tend to not be critical of places where I stay, but this one was a bit frustrating. Thor house itself is nice, could use some updating but for lake front I'd take it. The grounds and area to the water are terrible, not at all maintained and a virtual swamp that could not be accessed by our whole group. Every boat and canoe was full of holes or almost fully submerged in water. Jerry did give me the green light to break some chains on some additional canoes, but again, holes and taking on water. For what was paid by the night I would have expected some better quality on the outdoor portion. Overall we did have a good time but thankfully the provincial park beac is a short drive away.

Pretty good stay

  • 4 of 5

Enough room for 8 of us. Most of us enjoy watching golf on tv and the US Open was on during our stay. The TV's are pretty small - it would add a lot if there was a larger TV either up or down for sports nuts like us. The beds are comfortable but the bedrooms overall are on the small side. Room only for the bed and a night stand or bed and 2 night stands. Those shortcomings aside it was the best price in town by far so we were happy.

Getting back to nature - Best cabin in Cranbrook!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great vacation with our whole family, 3 kids and both my parents and my husbands parents. All of us enjoyed a very relaxing week in this clean, bright & roomy cabin located on a quiet road that curves around the beautiful lake. There is a public beach a short walk away, which our children enjoyed on many occasions. The house is well equipped; big kitchen with everything you need. Plenty of storage available everywhere. The dining room table was perfect for 4 adults and there was plenty of room for everyone in the living room. The living room has high ceilings and is very comfortable with a pull-out bed in the couch if needed. Plenty of windows and patio doors overlooking the lake - great view to watch the wildlife! We appreciated the real wood fireplaces in the evening when everyone was ready to wind down for bed. All bedrooms had plenty of room; the beds were very comfortable with two good size bathrooms. The layout of the house and the bedrooms gave us plenty of space if we needed quiet time too. The deck was a good size with plenty of seats; We used the BBQ several times during our stay. We enjoyed beautiful views of the lake from the upper deck and star-gazing at night. It was so relaxing to sit on the deck with a morning coffee, savoring the views of this serene lake, and then every evening we sat outside enjoying the sunsets. We saw many birds in the trees and deer wandering through the expansive backyard too. As we had our three children along, we were so pleased with the variety of entertainment Jerry provided that kept them occupied for hours (games, paint board, books); also the adults enjoyed watching some Netflix in the evenings. The swim platform was a huge hit with all our kids, it was hard to get them to come back in for meals! They canoed to it almost every day. We felt they were very safe as there are no dangerous motor boats on this lake. The lower level has a lovely family room, laundry room and a simple kitchen area with a microwave. The kids felt like they had their own area of the house, very special! There is a walk out patio door to the natural yard, with plenty of shade from the variety of trees. Easy access to town for grocery stores, restaurants and other shopping. We had great communication with Jerry from the moment we booked our vacation. We will be staying here again and bringing even more guests. There's nothing else like this in Cranbrook. Great deal for a huge lake front cabin!

House was beautiful land not so much

  • 3 of 5

We definitely enjoyed our stay at the cabin. The house was very nice and had plenty of bedding for everyone. The only disappointment was the property. The images posted are definitely dated. When we arrived the lake had swelled enough that the 10m leading down to the beach were totally swamped out, we had to lay down wooden planks to even get to the dock. Also the canoe provided had holes in it and the smaller boat and paddle boat were completely submerged and had been left to weather in the lake, leaving them unusable. The grounds were very unkept and had junk, a trailer, and rotting/infested wood left on them, seemed very odd. All in all enjoyed our stay but felt slightly mislead about the property (that saying the lake and area were stunning).
