About Leigh Whitfield
Hey there! I'm Jeff and this is my lovely wife of 33 years, Leigh. We are from Salisbury, North Carolina and discovered Holden Beach in 1983 after I had gotten out of the Navy and we opened a restaurant at Holden Beach called The Seafood Peddler. After 15 years in the restaurant business, our son Skyler was born in 1993. We were recently very blessed to find this jewel of a house, like finding a huge shark's tooth in the sand. We have made it our own...and have added all the special touches that our creativity would allow. Now we'd like to share it all with you and your family. Our goal is that you'll fall in love with this vacation cottage and want to rent it year after year!
Leigh Whitfield purchased this Cottage in 2010
Why Leigh Whitfield chose Holden Beach
We recognized the special character of Holden Beach upon our first visit in 1983. Thus, we have been here ever since. We respect the fine families that come back year after year for the beauty and innocence of this seaside vacation destination. Step back in time and enjoy the simple pleasures of the ocean!
What makes this Cottage unique
The single most impressive aspect of our beach cottage is the location...oh and the private saltwater pool...AND the wonderful little ocean views! You kind of feel like your on a cruise ship when gazing out of the 12 foot glass door unit. This cottage has just been completely remodeled with ALL NEW APPLIANCES, bedding, furniture and black granite. Almost everything is brand new! We are conveniently located on the Island with the Pier and General Store just down the road a piece. Both bedroom suites have a glamorous view and direct access to the private swimming pool with huge party deck.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Home away from home
We felt very comfortable in Leigh's home. It is decorated beautifully! We also enjoyed the salt water pool immensely. The view from the front deck is pretty, but it's loud because of the busy main road in front. If you want a quieter space, the pool is the place to have morning coffee, or evening cocktails. It's a little oasis.
We loved the pool and closeness to the beach!! Clean and relaxing beach house. Basement/garage mildew, but we highly recommend beach house to others.
Perfect Beach House and Town
What a great beach getaway, such a nicely kept property!
Great Family Beach Trip
Our family of four had a great week staying at this property! The house was cozy, very clean and well equipped. Walk to beach was short and the pool was relaxing. Owners were very attentive and could not have been more kind. Thank you for everything!
Not 5/ 5 rating
Upon arrival both bathrooms and showers were not clean properly. The bathroom rugs looks like they’ve never been washed. The twin bed mattress cover had several stains. There was blood stains on a pillow. The kitchen was fully equipped however, most of the pans were too warn to use them. The washing machine was very old it did work though. The location was very close to the beach and the pool was nice and clean. We had few safety concerns about the deck because it’s very worn and several nails were exposed throughout the deck and the pool area. The furniture in the porch was so worn and dirty I was afraid to sit on it. The property management and owner was very helpful and responded very quickly when we had an issue with the door being locked and any other questions. Most of the furniture needs to be updated and replaced especially when you’re charging that much for a rental property for a week.
Did Not Meet Our Standards
The rental standard did not meet our expectations for the price. The basement did not contain heat or air. The owner suggested that our son might like to sleep in the man cave in the basement. We paid the additional required fee for him to stay. The odor was very musty...not suitable for the 5th person to stay in. We did not consider the basement a healthy or safe environment for anyone to sleep in. The key provided was for the entrance to the first floor guest bath. There were no bath or wash clothes available. Only a hand towel in each bathroom. The renters are instructed to remove all sheets from the beds. Wash the master bedroom sheets and kitchen towels and fold and place in the order in which they were found for the next renter. All the remaining to be placed in a basket next to the washing machine. Yet a cleaning fee is paid for by the renter.
Never have we been asked to do this in any other rental property we’ve stayed. We did all that was asked of us which required that we get up very early the last morning to take care of the owners instructions. Caused us to lose time we could have spent enjoying our last morning at the beach. When we arrived there was a alarm going off - we contacted the owner who came but could not stop the smoke detectors from going off - he removed them from the ceiling and we never heard back from the owner again.
