This cozy cedar-shingled, cottage-style house has a private drive and 1 acre lot with 120 ft of frontage along the North Umpqua River. The spacious private yard features a giant sycamore tree, and a cedar deck overlooking the river below and old-growth forest beyond. A great R&R destination, honeymoon hideout, or anniversary getaway. You can spend an entire day in solitude or take day-trips to the ocean, Crater Lake, wineries, and enjoy many other activities and tours nearby.
It is located 1/4 mile from a store (food, gas, fishing licenses and tackle, beer-wine-liquor, post office) and 3 miles from several restaurants. Once you park here you won't need to drive anywhere, unless you want to explore Crater Lake National Park (75 miles), the Umpqua National Forest (10 miles), or the Wild and Scenic Reach of the North Umpqua River and the 75-mile North Umpqua Trail (2 miles).
This part of the river is famous for year-round fly-fishing for steelhead, and whitewater rafting and kayaking. Also for many short trails to beautiful waterfalls. The local town of Glide has a famous Glide Wildflower Show each April, and the Umpqua valley has winery tours year-round.

I've spent years renovating this and two other riverfront houses to share this beautiful piece of the North Umpqua River with other outdoor lovers. I live nearby and will be sure your stay is a pleasant one.
Rich purchased this house in 2001
The North Umpqua is the most beautiful river on Earth, with strong wild fish, invigorating rapids, and gorgeous scenery. The old-growth forest across the river supports abundant wildlife and exudes serenity.
Watch the eagles, ospreys, and otters patrol the river from the deck along the bank high above the water. Fish for wild trout and steelhead right in front of the house, year-round.
Rich your hospitality knows no bounds! Thanks for providing such a memorable weekend along with the awesome food, sweet cabin, private reserve fishery, and killer wine hangover :).
What a great find! Super clean and has everything you need for a comfortable stay in a beautiful part of the Umpqua Valley. Rich was superb, he went above and beyond to making sure everything was perfect for us. We will be making this a yearly get away!
We expected a much nicer environment, with matching updated furniture, looks like a fishing housing for a bunch of guys. You advertised as a romantic anniversary, or honeymoon venue, not at all, the mattress needs replacing as well as the bedding, very old. The bathroom tub was disgusting with all the chips and old towels. The back deck was nice, but access to the water was difficult. We will not be back or refer to others.
We stayed at the lovely Blue Heron House. The home is immaculate. Very comfortable. There is a sitting area overlooking the North Umpqua River that is fantastic for enjoying the quiet morning. Rich is a wonderful host and very helpful and prompt with booking information.
The Blue Heron House is very clean, comfortable, and cozy. It has everything you need for a relaxing escape. The private deck offers amazing river views, and Rich was welcoming and accommodating. I can't emphasize enough how gorgeous this area is!
My husband and I spent three days at the Blue Heron this past summer. The house is charming, spotless, well-equipped, and in a lovely location above the Umpqua River. We spent the days exploring nearby waterfalls and Crater Lake, which is a nice day-trip from the cottage. We relaxed in the evenings at the "river deck" overlooking the Umpqua, with deer meandering through the yard at dusk. Rich was an excellent host. We will return!
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay in the Blue Heron House. We especially liked sitting out back in the sheltered deck overlooking the river. It is a wonderful location for fishing and hiking. The house was older, but we liked the warmth and charm and Rich was very good to work with. We hope to stay there again in the future.
World-famous year-round flyfishing for steelhead; waterfall hikes, Crater Lake National Park, Pacific Ocean beaches, frisbee golf, Glide Wildflower Show, winery tours, Rogue-Umpqua Scenic Byway, Wild and Scenic River, salmon fishing in May and June.
