About the property

THE SPACE

Our 3B/2Bth house comfortably accommodates up to 7 people. The three bedrooms include a queen, a full and a trundle bed that rolls out to be two twins. The master bedroom has an adjoining bathroom with shower, the other rooms share a bathroom with a bath/shower. The house has been recently remodeled with a new well-equipped kitchen and expansive living area with plenty of seating/reading areas and a flat screen TV with iPod dock/DVD/CD receiver. Wi-fi connections for high-speed internet access. Backyard deck looks out on to the common woods around Timberland with a BBQ and patio area once snow melts away. Horseshoe pits on the side.

Place is kid-friendly - one story with only a couple steps to navigate in the entire house.Pack and Play available - one less thing to pack.

We pride ourselves on having a nice, tasteful place tucked in peaceful woods. Morning walks on the quiet streets then cozy up to the two gas fireplaces as a slight chill envelopes the evening. Tranquility and convenience!

THE NEIGHBORHOOD

Great central West Shore location with lots of options. Timberland is an historic small set of homes plopped right in the middle of the Tahoe Forest surrounded by some hundred year old trees - the quietest nights you'll ever have on the West Shore and a short 3 miles to all the activities at Tahoe City. We are also steps away from Ward Creek Park with a number of running, biking, exploring trials - a great introduction to nature of the little ones or instant rejuvenation with your morning coffee stroll.

As it warms up, lakeside is a great place to be. Walk down the street to Hurricane Bay, a convenient pebbly beach with great vistas. Or drive 3 miles to the beautiful sandy shores of Chambers Landing or a bit further to stunning Meek's Bay. The buzzing outdoor deck of Sunnyside can be reached through a 15 minutes walk through the forest or drive in less than a couple minutes.

Right down the block is the recently renovated Rideout Community Center - indoor basketball courts, kids play room packed with playsets, foozball, air-hockey and more. $2/day and your kid can have fun even on a cold, wet day. When it's sunny, there's a new outdoor play structure/swings, outdoor basketball hoops and a huge soccer field for running around in.

In winter, we are less than 5 minutes from Homewood and 15-20 minutes from Alpine and Squaw, For the non-skiers, snow-shoeing in Ward Creek Park is just a few steps away.

About The Owner

We live for the outdoors. Now with a toddler, we want him to have a chance to share our passion of forest, snow and sunshine. You are renting our home away from home and we'd love you to enjoy the special feeling we get every time we're up there.

The Owner purchased this house in 2010

Why The Owner chose Lake Tahoe West Shore CA

We wanted a place close to everything on the West Shore - from Homewood to Sunnyside to Tahoe City - yet secluded and quiet. With the lil one, we wanted no tricky staircases, no open lofts - room but safety. We couldn't have picked a better place!

What makes this house unique

The small set of streets that make up the Timberland area south of Sunnyside is a quaint community of full-time occupants who are outdoor enthusiasts. Dozens of trails leading into the Tahoe forest are a block or two away. Be at Sunnyside or the Fire Sign Inn in 2 minutes, Homewood and Tahoe City in 5 minutes or the Alpine/Squaw ski area in 15-20. Hurricane Bay Beach with its great lake views is a 10 minute stroll.

Great, comfortable house!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time staying at this cabin. It was really great for a trip with our two young kids. They had a lot of space to roam inside the house and in the front/backyard for snow. The owner seemed to basically left the house the way they wanted to stay - the sheets, cooking utensil, etc are all very nice. The park near by is a lot of fun in the snow - beautiful trail through meadows, and a cute playground for the kids. We had a wonderful time, thank you~

Owner's Response: Sorry to hear about your experience. We usually have a great reputation about cleaniness. Not sure what went wrong but we are passing the feedback to our cleaning company.

Could be really good with more attention

  • 3 of 5

2+ or 3- stars. Overall this is a decent place in a good location, and I wouldn't write it off completely. But it needs attention in a few key areas. The most important- the mattresses were very uncomfortable. It's not just my adult back that hurt; my athletic teen also developed back pain on her mattress. This could be remedied easily with new beds. The blinds did not function properly. We had to buy our own soap- none provided in the showers. And we wanted to grill but there was no propane. These are basic supplies that should be provided. Would be nice if there were bikes or kayaks or inter tubes to borrow, but this is not expected, especially for the price. Bring your own if you can.

As for positive details: nice kitchen, clean, comfortable living room big enough for family of 4, board games, washer and dryer, good location in a real neighborhood (not touristy area), with a community center nearby and a nice quiet trail through the woods. Fairly quiet neighborhood except for one neighbor's dog with a deep booming bark. Not walking distance to a sandy beach but we didn't mind the drive. Bears frequent this neighborhood, which I saw as a plus- when we checked in a bear came up on the patio and then stood behind my daughter. He was just looking for handouts; good to see wildlife. Owners answered questions ahead of time, just wish they would have mentioned we'd have to bring soap and propane as I was asking specific questions about what to pack.

Give this place a chance if you're a heavy sleeper with a sturdy back- but ask specific questions about what is provided. If there were new beds and all the basic supplies, I'd give another 2 stars.

Great location, kid friendly.

  • 5 of 5

My family of 4 stayed in this home for a week. It looks just like the pictures. It was clean, well stocked and at a great location. Several of my family members stayed at a nearby hotel and remarked how much nicer this house was for about the same amount of money. Glad we found this house.
