Waterfront Beach Home on the Laguna De Apoyo Eco Reserve

Bedrooms 4
Half Baths2
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, 4.5 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

There’s no need for a pool with the healing waters of the Laguna de Apoyo in your front yard.

To stay at Quinta Lee is to experience the richness of nature and the feel of Nicaragua.

Nicaragua's weather invites outdoor living. The open aired living space and and large covered terrace make this home a unique getaway. The beachfront patio will allow you to relax and dine in the shade as you take in the view of Volcan Mombacho. You can enjoy a hammock and nap to your heart’s content, or simply step into the warm waters of the Laguna for a swim. This beautiful paradise is surrounded by the lush Laguna de Apoyo Ecological Reserve. Don’t be surprised to hear the roar of a howler monkey or the sweet singing of a mot-mot.

This 4 bedroom and 5.5 bathroom home is made up of two separate buildings, both facing the pristine waters of the Laguna. Quinta Lee is constructed with local hardwoods and the locally hand made furniture gives it a true Nicaraguan flavour. The spacious main house has a fully equipped kitchen which looks upon the huge palm roof patio. This open concept kitchen is decorated with hand painted tiles, hardwood cabinets, and a large rustic wooden island. There is an outdoor barbecue, two dining areas, powder room, and a bedroom with private bath, all of which are equipped with fans to keep you cool and comfortable.

In the second house there are three bright bedrooms each with private tiled baths. All of the bedrooms have air conditioning and ceiling fans. The front two rooms open onto the stunning front garden and Laguna, and the rear room opens onto the back garden.

The well tended gardens are bursting with bouganvilla, gardenia and hibiscus flowers. Palm trees sway in the breeze, dappling the shade over the lake front patio. The large back yard is complete with organic mango, papaya, lime, orange and banana trees along with a small herb garden.

Everyone who stays at Quinta Lee falls in love with Wilmer & Estella, our delightful caretakers. Spanish speaking, they have a vast knowledge of the area and Nicaraguan culture. They are willing and very happy to help with anything you need. Wilmer and Estella live in their home at the rear of the property, out of sight of the main house. They are always close at hand, and always respectful of our guests’ privacy.

The Laguna de Apoyo is a perfect jumping off point for all sorts of activities. Granada is only a 25 minute drive away so it is easy to head into town for some fine dining or market shopping. Alternatively, there are some lovely local restaurants that surround the Laguna, or simply ask Estela to cook you up one of her deliciously authentic Nicaraguan meals.

You can also take a day trip to the Pacific coastal beaches, which are a 2-3 hour drive from the Laguna, go for nature walks up the Mombacho Volcano, or rent kayaks to explore the Laguna.

A note to the wise... as in much of Nicaragua, the last half km of road into Quinta Lee is a bit rough. Although a normal car is sufficient (a taxi will take you there), we prefer a 4WD vehicle.

About Lee Richmond (Ms.)

We are a family from Vancouver, Canada who fell in love with Nicaragua in 2005. We were fortunate to have found our property with one of the buildings having been recently constructed. We completely rebuilt the main house and have loved every minute of adding to our beautiful Quinta Lee

Lee Richmond (Ms.) purchased this house in 2005

Why Lee Richmond (Ms.) chose Granada

We knew that the Laguna was the place for us after our first visit. It is located in the crater of an ancient volcano. The word Apoyo in Spanish means ‘support’. It’s meaning is clear as it is integral to the survival of the multitude of different species of plants and animals that thrive in and around it. The Laguna is an irresistible natural gem, unmatched in its beauty and serenity. With the breezes and the pristine warm water, that is ideal for swimming, we could not resist making the Laguna our home away from home.

What makes this house unique

The location is unbeatable, placing you close to the amenities of city life yet retaining the tranquility and peacefulness of a private beach get away. The open concept design is perfect for gatherings of family and friends. The daily maid service and 24 hour guard creates a safe and comfortable environment in which to fully enjoy your holiday. There truly is no other home in Nicaragua that captures the beauty and essence of this unbelievable country in such a relaxing and comfortable manner.

A letter from Nov. 2008 tenants

I don't know where to begin. These last few days at Casa Apoyo have to be at the top of my best vacations ever! I have copied this email to my family that stayed with us there in case they want to add something I missed. First of all, the property was absolutely gorgeous and extremely clean. What a gorgeous view to wake up to and go to bed to each day. I cannot describe to you how wonderful Wilmer and Estella were to us. They were extremely patient and accommodating with all our demands and requests - especially when it came to food! We really want the property owners to know how lucky they are to have them managing their home. It felt like we were leaving family when we had to say goodbye. We definitely plan on returning and could not see ourselves staying anywhere else. Of all the things I miss from Nicaragua, I would have to say Estella's cooking is at the top! .....we look forward to seeing Wilmer and his family during our next vacation rental.

One of the BEST places we’ve been in Central America! Lush and Lovely❤️💐

Perfect vacation! Lee was very helpful with everything we needed. Caretakers, Wilmer and Estela, were amazing. They cheerfully helped us with all of our needs and questions. The meals they cooked were out of this world... all freshly prepared and served lakeside. The grounds are just a beautiful as the pictures show... even better in real life. Great pizza right down the road and wonderful close venues all around the lake. Pablo was the absolute best travel guide and driver the entire time! We just didn’t stay long enough so we will be back :)

Lovely Lakefront Home

  • 5 of 5

Stayed at Qunita Lee for 3 nights and wished it were more. The house is well designed with open kitchen, dining and relaxing areas. The garden is beautiful and has several places to sit and relax. We had breakfast and lunch at home and ate at local restaurants we could walk to for dinner. I will plan better next time and shop for dinner as well. We didn't want to leave. Thank you Lee for sharing your home.

Amazing stay at Quinta Lee!

  • 4 of 5

We spent a total of 6 days at Quinta Lee and loved it! It is so serene and relaxing, you could spend all day starting out at the lagoon. There is always a lovely breeze so even though the temperatures were high it never felt oppressive. The evenings were always cool and quiet. Wilmer was very sweet and accommodating. My kids loved swimming out to the dock and lounging in the hammocks. They also loved the animals that would come around like dogs, cats and chickens. In fact, they named them all including the geckos! The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the location. It is quite a drive up from the highway, 20 minutes each way. This made for an inconvenience when we needed to run out for something we forgot. Next time I would definitely buy more supplies so we didn't have to leave at all. The other suggestion I would make is stocking up the kitchen a bit more. We didn't seem to have enough cups to go around sometimes and just a few spices to work with would have been nice when cooking. Otherwise I would definitely stay again, just plan a little better on our end.

Beautiful gardens. Very tranquil. House is exactly as it looks in pics.

Willmer and Estella are awesome hosts and they will attend to your every need. The home was beautiful, open and airy. Howler monkeys payed us a visit. What a treat! Driver services were arranged for us by Willmer. Pablo our driver from Pablo Travel spoke excellent English. He came into the grocery stores and helped us buy food. Download What's App and it's easy to contact both Willmer and Pablo. The Laguna water left our hair and skin feeling vey soft and was refreshing after a hot long walk. Make sure to go for a walk back down the road. There are lots of places to eat. Public beaches and pulperias for supplies. Overall a great experience at Quinta Lee. The BBQ was the best. I would definitely return.

This home is beautiful and tranquil.

The only thing that marred our stay here was construction noises from the house next door. Otherwise it was perfect. We will return here again for our next trip to Nicaragua.

Owner's Response: I'm glad you enjoyed your stay and thank you for your review. The noise from the excavation machines lasted for 2 days. I'm very sorry that happened during your visit. I am here now and all is calm. Your review has not shown up on VRBO. Would you mind submitting it again? We really appreciate reviews, and it helps our future clients to understand whether this is a good place for them. Feliz Ano Nuevo! Lee

Stunning sunrise and sunset!

  • 5 of 5

Cool lake breeze. Beautiful gardens. Very spacious design. Has multiple areas to hang out. The open kitchen is awesome, fresh enough for cooking, while still enjoying the lake. Having hot water was a pleasant surprise. Floating dock is cool. Intermittent wifi, due to signal being relayed across the lake (enough to maintain connection with the outside world). The caretakers were very accomodating, yet we enjoyed our privacy most of the time. The only temporary minus is that there is construction going on next door, causing some noise in the mornings. We definitely recommend this property for a group/family getaway!
