Secluded Luxury Custom Built 3,000 sq. ft. Paradise

Built in 1996-97, this custom built 3 bedroom/3 full bath home sits atop a bluff affording magnificent 360 views, from north to south Valley of the Moon, to the terraced landscaped gardens and eastern hills. No visible neighbors and lush gardens create true intimacy and privacy. Radiant heat/cooling lies below slate floors throughout, black Brazilian granite counters, extensive custom iron and wood work, ceiling fans. Each of three pavilions is separate and private. 8 sets of French doors open onto wrap-around decks. The architectural designs were specific to natural light and openness, based on Polynesian structures for outdoor living-big decks and generous overhangs. The Great Room-massive fireplace, loft and Steinway Baby Grand. Home is Wi-Fi, and wired for complete or room-specific stereo (inc. pool area), the Master Pavilion has a new 42' LCD TV with Direct TV. The gourmet state-of-the-art kitchen has two large double sinks, center butcher block. Guest Pav. has complete kitchen.

Just added! A new Viking Pro 6-burner stove top in the Main Kitchen! We hope you love to cook as much as we do!

Outside the home

One of the 2 owner-builders, a landscape contractor devoted a lot of energy and inspiration to the extensive gardens, the pool area and the entire property. On a hill in the middle of 3 acres, no visible neighbors and lush growth all around creates an extremely private paradise. The terraced gardens are on computer drip systems, including 21 rose bushes, 4 fruit trees (apple, pear, apricot and plum-all incredible for the picking) and two vegetable gardens (1, behind the hot tub). There is also an enclosed dog area. The lap pool (50' X 8' X 3'-4 1/2' in depth) has a unique feature-'the Wave'; a plastered series of three undulations designed for stretching the back, water covering the ears, but not the face-perfect for zoning out. Magical manzanita and madrone trees intermix with various oaks and wild plum. Each of the massive decks affords different views. The winter rains create a cascading waterfall and pond below the Master Pavilion terrace. Loose yourself in nature and luxury.

The Neighborhood

Glen Ellen is in the heart of the Valley of the Moon, called so for the magnificence of it's moon glow, the hills keeping out the surrounding communities' lights. There are 28 wineries in the near vicinity, some close and safe enough for bike trips. The Valley has numerous festivals devoted to wine, food and the good life. Glen Ellen is just off highway 12 connecting Sonoma with Santa Rosa, both great for shopping/dining/movies, etc. A rich history is provided by Jack London (author of 'Call of the Wild'), including museums, a state park and various saloons and eateries that bear his name. For the bike enthusiasts, there are numerous trails and roads. For the hard-core, a trip over Trinity Road into Napa! The Sonoma Coast is 45 mins. due west. The surrounding Glen Ellen area is a hiker's paradise (Sugarloaf Mtn. State Park, Jack London State Park, etc.) Napa, Healdsberg, the Anderson Valley, the S.F. Bay are close by. San Francisco is an easy hour's drive-combining the best of all!

Excellent place to stay in Wine Country

  • 5 of 5

We had a group of 9 folks visit Sonoma and the rest of Wine Country for 4 days celebrating our 20th high school reunion August 10-14. This house was a great home base for the event and we really felt like welcomed guests for our visit. We had everything we needed and really appreciate the owner's helpful interaction. Would definitely recommend for anyone wanting a beautiful and peaceful getaway. Made quick friends with RoMeow and spent a great couple evenings enjoying the incredible views! Glen Ellen is also a cute little town and wish we had more time to stay!

A beautiful getaway in Glen Ellen

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful time at this amazing property. There is one main house with two separate bedroom areas and a huge main living area, along with an entirely separate cottage with its own kitchen and bath. Both buildings overlook a swimming pool that our kids loved. There's also a hot tub up a few steps. The entire property is so secluded and peaceful it feels like you're miles from civilization. Communication with the host was excellent and prompt. We're already planning our return. Recommend highly.

Lovely house in a beautiful place

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful hospitality with a lovely house and floor plan set up to take in great vistas. The owner was charming and easy to work with, and the accommodations were perfect for our family of four adults -- peaceful and relaxing. Glen Ellen is a cool little town with fantastic restaurants and amenities immediately at hand, and great wineries are only a short drive away. Be prepared for longer drives, however, to get to Napa or the Russian River Valley -- though still only 30 minutes +/- on scenic roads.

Beautiful house and property

  • 5 of 5

This property was as good as the online description made it out to be. Beautifully designed interior and exterior. Everywhere you turn, there's another gorgeous view of the hillsides of Glen Ellen. We had one adult couple, two adults and two kids, and there was plenty of living and sleeping space for everyone in our group. We could have easily accommodated a couple of more people.

Eclectic and spacious

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay while doing a whirlwind girls wine tour trip...we didn't spend a lot of time at the house, but wish we had had more time to do so! We had amazing weather so were able to sleep with all the French doors open at night. Sat on the main patio at dusk and watched the sun set, the moon rise, and a bevy of bats chasing some of the nighttime bugs. It was a little too cool to get in the pool, but it was so calm and serene just to sit by it in the evening and sip a glass of wine. We used the well appointed kitchen for breakfast only, but could imagine cooking gourmet meals. The two sinks on either side of the kitchen is a great set up when there is more than one cook in the kitchen. The living and dining area were large with lots of overstuffed furniture; perfect for getting lost in a book or listening to someone play the Grand piano, if you were lucky enough to have someone with you who knew how to play. Each room had outside access and a private deck: the master bedroom shower even had a door in the shower that opened onto the deck. Kind of cool in itself. RoMeow, the resident cat was such a lovable fellow and very quickly made himself at home with one of us each night as we settled into bed. Oh, and the beds were extremely comfortable! Highly recommend the property, and the owner, who was a pleasure to work with.
