As you wind your way down the road to our lake house you should anticipate that soon you can totally unwind and enjoy the privacy and serenity our location on the lake has to offer. Our home is uniquely located on a very special part of the lake; on the "West" side of "Upper" Tillery. We feel the West side is best because the sun is at your back in the afternoon. We have a nice canopy of tree cover around the house and if you might be relaxing on the porch which adjoins the house, you are up high enough to usually enjoy a nice breeze, not to mention an incredible view. Your choice of dock or deck will determine how much sun or shade you get. You will have an unobstructed view of the lake and Uwharrie National Forest from 2 of 4 bedrooms that are upstairs and from the kitchen, living and dining areas which are downstairs. A gas grill is on the side of the porch for your grilling convenience. From our location, you will enjoy the privacy of woods on both sides. Morrow Mountain State Park will be on your left (North) as you look out, and no house immediately on the right (South) side of the house. As such, you can enjoy the magic that the best of mother nature has to offer yet you are still close to a great variety of civilization perks such as those offered by the local towns of Mount Gilead and Albemarle, NC and even a city; Charlotte, NC (about 1 to 1 1/4 hour drive).
Lake Tillery is located in the southern part of the Piedmont Triad area, about one hour east of Charlotte, North Carolina. Lake Tillery is close to not only Charlotte but also Greensboro and Asheboro. This lake is approximately 5,000 acres and has about 104 miles of shoreline; great if you enjoy boating, fishing, biking (road and mountain), hiking, camping, golf and more! If golf is a favorite activity, Piney Point Golf Course, in Stanly County, and Tillery Traditions Golf Course, in Montgomery County are two highly ranked golf courses that are within a short driving distance. A magnificent place to visit is The Fork Farm, which is a 1,300-acre farm that was created to preserve the wildlife in the area and to set up a state of the art equestrian facility. Guests can enjoy a variety of equestrian activities like trail rides and hayrides. For those that enjoy being in the outdoors, The Fork Farm also has sporting clays, shooting games and hunting (deer, quail, duck, and dove). Or maybe you are a NASCAR fan? The Charlotte Motor Speedway with its new drag strip AND Hall of Fame Museum is within a 45-minute drive. Another place to check out is the Reed Gold Mine, which is the site of the first documented gold mine in the United States.

No place for coat and tie (my picture) at the lake which is exactly why our lake home is so special. I've included a number of photos to illustrate why we feel we are so fortunate to have found this house and location. We will never tire of the expansive view and many changing personalities ranging from sunshine to mist to terrific downpours ... fortunately, we are in NC where blue sky's and sunshine seem to be forever present. We enjoy the incredible views from 2 bedrooms facing the lake and from the kitchen and living areas downstairs; which is still high enough to be able to take in the entire panorama of lake and National Forest. After we settled in, we discovered how fortunate we were to be on the West side of the lake and because of the position of the house, we do not get baked by the afternoon sun; yet full sun is available from our large dock at water's edge. We are at the upper end of lake Tillery, also an advantage from our perspective. We do not experience the a higher level of boat traffic experienced by the "main body" of the lake; with the exception of the 4th of July, which is absolutely the most incredible experience imaginable! The fireworks are directly across the lake from our house. As the evening draws near, the lake in front of our house fills with so many boats that one could almost walk across to the other side from boat to boat. When the fire works are over, it is fun to watch all of the green, red and white boat lights come on as they all slowly navigate back to their destinations. We typically retire from our water rafts, lower or mid deck chairs to our covered porch and a bit more regaling. I could go on, but would prefer to get feed back from our guests following a relaxing stay at our home. Ask for more pictures if desired.

What makes this House unique
We encourage you to take a few minutes to read our property description. There are a number of very unique benefits to our location. The house is comfortable, cozy with subtle lake house colors, carpet and tile throughout. The primary reason why this is unique is the spectacular view and 200 feet of dock along the water. Bring a wave runner and boat and store in the boathouse. This property has privacy on both sides, yet you are a few miles from a beautiful golf course and about a 10 minute drive into town. Your view will be looking at a National Forest on the other side of the lake and directly to your left as you take in the view is Morrow Mountain State park. You can hike the park or trails directly across the road from the house. When we relax in the sun room or on the covered porch with a cup of coffee in the morning or grill in the evening, we will sometimes see bald eagles soar directly in front of us. On the 4th of July, there is absolutely no better place to be for a spectacular display of fireworks.

Fantastic weekend away for friends
We spend Labor Day weekend at Tom's and the property did not disappoint. Comfortable couches and beds, great grill and dock, lovely times spent in our boat on the lake. Tom was very responsive to all of our needs and queries and made us feel like welcome guests. We would definitely recommend this place for a weekend away!
Great house on the water
Though there might be fancier houses on the lake, this house was excellent. It was clean, had everything you would need, beautiful porches and decks close to the water. Every meal we had was on the porch. Cool breezes and great shade. It is at the end of a windy road, so it is very secluded. We caught fish and tubed. We'll be going back sometime next year.
Long Weekend Getaway.
My Family of 4 spent three nights here in early June. The purpose of our trip was to visit Lake Tillery as a potential place for us to invest in a lake home. Tom was very helpful in telling us about the lake and his property enabled us to bring our ski boat to check out the whole lake and river area. We found the house to be in a peaceful very private wooded section of the lake and were able to enjoy time on the decks and dock without feeling like we were right on top of another home or dock. The check in/ check out process, "orientation" or instruction package, were very easy and helpful. The view from the house was great. The house was clean and had everything we needed for our weekend at the lake. We wouldn't hesitate to come to this house again.

Additional information about rental rates
We do want to know something about our guests and will therefore want to have an initial phone conversation to be sure our house and location is right for you, and you for our home. We have a separate rental agreement that will need to be signed and it will ask for the names and ages of all occupants (this helps us to ensure satisfactory sleeping accommodations). I will also ask for a copy/photo of the drivers license of whoever will sign the rental agreement.
