Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

This bright and airy contemporary single family house rents for $2300 per week from July 2nd through September 3rd and $1,500 per week in May, June and September. It's set back from the ocean on E. 14th Street, behind protective dunes that allowed for zero damage from Hurricane Sandy. The gorgeous, expansive beach has lifeguards during the season and provides plenty of space to stretch out without having another group of beachgoers on top of you like in nearby 'boardwalk' towns. Barnegat Light is a quiet community, with some great nightlife in town or a few miles away in the neighboring beach towns. A unique feature of the house is the upside down design, with the bedrooms on the first floor and the living room, kitchen and dining area on the second floor with a cathedral ceiling, making the living space feel roomy. This rental is the perfect setting for a couples' weekend or a family gathering.

While we've always enjoyed a cross-breeze from the ocean, we've installed air conditioners on the second floor and in each of the three first floor bedrooms in light of recent heat waves. There's also a rotating fan in each bedroom and if you crack the windows, it can be quite cool and comfortable at night.

Natural vegetation surrounds the house and off street parking, affording a high degree of privacy.

About David Flynn

I'm self employed, working in the entertainment industry as an actor, writer and voiceover artist. I currently have several rather hilarious videos running on the onion website, featuring my continuing character Representative Ingersoll. One other thing - I designed and built the house and have been its only owner.

David Flynn purchased this house in 1979

Why David Flynn chose Long Beach Island

Barnegat Light is arguably one of the most beautiful beaches in NJ with pristine, untouched dunes and an impressive wildlife preserve for the native birds. It's a quiet community away from the hustle and bustle of a boardwalk town but there's so much to do within a short drive. There are party boats that go deep sea fishing, parasailing, live music, karaoke venues and plenty of nice restaurants nearby and within the neighboring towns, and public tennis courts and a playground within walking distance from the house. There's also a golf course about twenty minutes away, and the very popular Fantasy Island Casino and Amusement Park, located in nearby Beach Haven.

What makes this house unique

Barnegat Light is a beautiful resort area that is also popular as a retirement destination for many owners. Located on the northern tip of Long Beach Island, it's a quiet community, surrounded on three sides by water - the Atlantic Ocean, Barnegat Bay and Barnegat Inlet. Beach activities, fishing, tennis, sailing and other water sports are all available within a short walk from the house, and nightlife and amusements for the kids are only a few miles away. Also, all the action in Atlantic City is only an hour's drive away.

Hidden gem!

  • 5 of 5

Perfect spot for our family vacation. The home provided plenty of space that was comfortable and relaxed for everyone. The house was fully supplied with household needs. We loved the upside down design with bedrooms on the bottom and family space up top. The deck was a great spot to hang out in the morning for coffee and fun conversations and meals in the evenings. We loved the privacy that the surrounding trees and foliage provided between neighboring houses. If you don't mind a bit of a hike to the beach, you'll enjoy the beauty of the protected dunes and natural surrounding and be rewarded with a fairly quiet, private beach. We had a great time!

Fantastic Private Beach House

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I rented this house for the first week of July. We were able to see 4th of July fireworks straight from our private deck. It had everything we needed to have a relaxing vacation. The grill is newer so we used it almost every night. The fans and A/C kept the house very cool and comfortable. We had friends come and go and stay overnight and enjoyed close access to the beach, Poppy's ice cream parlor, Mustache Bill's Diner, and the famous Barnegat Lighthouse. It's a great place if you want to get away from the noise and crowds. The orientation of the kitchen and living room being on the second floor made for a more enjoyable area to hang out and chill because you could enjoy the views, the morning sun, and direct access to the patio. We also watched a great thunderstorm from the upstairs window. There was plenty of parking in the driveway. I highly recommend this house!

Many Happy Memories

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I rented this beach house during the past two thoroughly-enjoyable summer vacations. Everything about it is beachy. We enjoyed barbecuing almost every eve and eating on the high deck, where there was always a breeze. (Often the barbeque was fresh scallops or other fish bought blocks away at the commercial fishing dock at Viking Village). While the house has air conditioners throughout, we turned them on only once in two summers. The house is cozy with cute beach art and collectibles. Our guests enjoyed it almost as much as we did (in fact one set of guests rented it after staying with us). It is one-half block from a spectacular, Cape-Cod-like beach. We always looked forward to walking up and down the dunes to the beach through the varied natural vegetation (though if you have tons of beach gear and are impatient to get to the waves, this stretch of beach is not for you). The street is quiet. The owner is a pleasure to deal with.

Great Find

  • 5 of 5

We rented this wonderful beach house for a week with our family of 5 - three teenagers - and really enjoyed our stay! We had never stayed at the northern end of LBI and it was a such a great surprise! The dunes and beach are spectacular (a good walk to the water - but well worth it!) and we loved the quiet, natural vibe of Barnegat Light after staying for many years in Beach Haven. The house had everything we needed with a traditional beach house feel - we especially loved coffee in the morning and dinner on our deck amongst the pines. Enjoyed bicycle riding, parasailing, shopping at Viking Village, exploring at the lighthouse and nature trails and just chillin' on what seemed like our own private guarded beach.

Charming Beach House full of cute details

  • 5 of 5

I went to the beach for a 3-day weekend and stayed at this house. I loved every second of it. This no- frills, adorable house is perfect for people who enjoy relaxing with friends and being a hop skip and jump to one of the most beautiful beaches in New Jersey. I can't say enough good things about this place--I love the beachy decor, the TV and cable are nice, but you don't need them! Enjoy watching throwback VHS tapes and playing board games, all supplied by the house. There's also an outdoor shower, gas grill and awesome deck for bird watching and sipping white wine spritzers on a quiet street. No ragers here. Just pure relaxation.
