I am a retired math teacher who now enjoys hiking and hunting for antiques. I also sell real estate at Western Carolina Properties in Cullowhee.
Wanda Herren purchased this cabin in 1998
These cabins offer an opportunity for guests to experience country living at its finest. The setting is serene, safe and a good place for families to gather.
We hope that visitors will love this farm and valley as much as we, our children, and grandchildren do. They have enjoyed petting and feeding the cows and fishing in the river and pond.
The experience my wife and I had at this cabin was indeed remarkable. The amenities were superb, the views are spectacular, and the service that Ms. Wanda Herren provided was excellent. Definitely you get a tremendous bang for your buck! We are already ready to come back to this wonderful cabin!!!
I don't think you will find a better value in the WNC mountains. A beautifully decorated cozy little cabin very close to the Tuckasegee river. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay....especially the nice toasty wood fire each night. We had agreed that a little snowfall would have completed our fantasy. As such we will certainly try to return this winter at first signs of snow. Very nice, clean, cozy, warm and above all relaxing! Loved it!
If you need to attend an event at Western Carolina University, this could not be more perfect. It was spotless, well-equipped and sooooooo comfortable! I loved the rustic, cowboy themed décor. We were transported to country life the minute we walked in the door. I highly recommend this beautiful place!!
Great mountain cabin with a outstanding view. Conveniently located with good road access. Very comfortable stay with all of the amentities that you typically need. Actual appearance is better than the photos in the ad. We enjoyed having free dry firewood for nightly use in the fireplace. The owner (Wanda) was very helpful and gave us great insight into the local area. Good access to the Smokies and surrounding towns. Would definitely stay there again when we are traveling in the area.
I have stayed at Wanda and Jim's cabins several times over the years. We first stayed when our daughter enrolled at Western Carolina University. We are from NC but no longer live there. We are an Army family and currently stationed in Hawaii. My last visit in April was to see my new granddaughter. I spent my first week with my daughter and rented the bunkhouse for my second week. I invited a childhood friend to come stay with me for that week. We hadn't seen each other in almost 30 years. Our stay was wonderful!!! Being so far from home and having to travel without my husband is always difficult but Wanda and Jim welcomed me like I was part of their family. My daughter, son in-law and my new granddaughter came by to meet my old friend and we enjoyed a wonderful meal together. It was like being back home in my own kitchen. The cabins are beautifully decorated, warm and welcoming. There is nothing lacking in them, right down to the firewood for the fireplace which I enjoyed immensely I might add! I haven't had a wood burning fire in almost 3 years so I was in heaven:) The view from the cabins is also spectacular!! I'm looking forward to another visit in the future and I will most certainly stay at one of the cabins.
My wife & I have been visiting the Smokies for over three decades, at least once a year during the summer or fall. Now retired with the children grown, we have the time to travel more and for longer stays. We wanted to see the mountains in the spring and see the lovely flowers bloom. So we rented the red cabin for the month of April. All of our expectations were greatly exceeded. The red cabin, though equipped to sleep many, was used by my wife & I, and was a perfect romantic cabin in the mountains. Wanda & Jim treated us like visiting family or friends. The cabin was beautifully laid out and had everything we needed. But the best part that can not be shown in pictures was the peacefulness and beauty of the area. The views from the front porch each morning set the tone for a great day. We enjoyed hiking and the numerous waterfalls. We enjoyed the wonderful drives along rivers and mountain roads (nothing like that in the flat parts of Michigan where we presently live).
All in all, it was simply great; so much so, we have had serious conversations about building in this area. The peacefulness of the area, and the friendliness of Wanda & Jim, put real meaning in a sign we saw in an antique shop during our visit: "We're not from these mountains, but we got here as soon as we could".
Geocaching available and good place for jogging and walking. We are in the middle of the fly fishing trail. The Tuckaseigee River is one of the best trout streams in NC and only a short walk to the river. There is a recreation area on the river, too.
