About Brian Rapp

I am a retired professional who has enjoyed fly fishing since a child. Our family's primary residence is Santa Barbara, CA. When looking for a retreat spot, I wanted to be in nature and the feeling of privacy. I was unable to find any place that had the feeling of being away from the busy world of today, while still providing access to the stimulation of a great town and University near by. I have been one to spend my spare time in nature. My last job was as Director of the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History.

Brian Rapp purchased this House in 1991

Why Brian Rapp chose Missoula County

It is a rare spot for a family gathering or for a group of friends to share the Montana experience. Live in privacy on the Blackfoot river, yet only 10 minutes from downtown for shopping, dining, and movies.

                                                            Marc U.

This was simply one of the most relaxing vacations we have taken. You couldn't ask for a better location. We thought everything about the house was very nice.

Bill, the property manager, was very professional and accommodating.

Thank you Brian for an exceptional place to stay!

                                                            Perfect Family Gathering Location!

                                                            JenMissoula, MT

Riverbend was the most amazing location for our family reunion this last summer. We rented both the main house as well as the small cabin on the property. The small cabin accommodated our elderly parents and two aunts. It was ideal, as they needed extra rest during the day, and could escape to their little oasis when needed but still be close by.

Their small house was adorable! The house was clean and well stocked, with everything they needed in the open floor plan. My father, who is 89, enjoyed watching the fish jump from the window in the living room, and was able to navigate down the path on the property to throw a line. His quote was "this is just fantastic!"

The large house was welcoming. We had over 40 for dinner one evening in the beautiful back yard, and many of us were prepping food in the large kitchen and sprawled out on the dining table preparing and visiting. There were spices that we had forgotten in the kitchen, which we really appreciated! We had the perfect view of grandkids playing in the yard, the river, an eagle, and floaters going by.

The house itself is a bit older, yet has character and was well kept and stocked....towels, blankets, toys for the youngsters, just about anything we needed. The large soaking tub in the bathroom downstairs was my Sister-in-laws dream! Plenty of bathrooms, beds, and extra spaces for all to sleep comfortably. Beds were comfortable and all the bedrooms downstairs had a beautiful view right out the windows.

Location wise, this property can't be beat! There are many options for tubing, floating, fishing and swimming right from the property. Going to town for a few staples was easier than getting across Missoula. We spent one day at Salmon Lake, a short 30 minutes from the house.

Our family was truly appreciative to spend our time together in this lovely setting. We will certainly continue to rent it for large events, as well as recommend it to others. And for a quick romantic getaway, the small cabin would be beautiful any time of year.

Family reunions can be busy and stressful. Renting the right place was key! Our best memories of the entire 5 days would be our dad playing his ukulele in the beautiful back yard, sitting around 40 other relatives...from 1-80, singing songs in a circle while the sun set with the river flowing by.

Thank you for providing us with such a beautiful space to make memories!

                                                            Family reunion

Beautiful Property. Very peaceful setting.Yard is very nicely maintained. Owner and property manager were great to work with. Lots of room for cooking, visiting, sleeping,Great place!

My one complaint is that the main house hasn't had a good cleaning in quite some time. The shower in the master had hair in it and the shower stalls are pretty dirty if you look close. Lots of creepy crawlers in the basement,Kitchen counter tops, drawers and floors haven't had anything but a quick wipe down in quite some time. A good cleaning is needed. If you don't mind it not being very clean you can not beat the location and room. Caught some nice Rainbows right out the back door!

                                                            Owner's Response:

I attempted to tell all the August guests that the turn around time between stays was very tight.

Sorry for the superficial cleaning, I was not able to get the normal cleaning service in before these guests arrived.

We truly enjoyed our stay at Riverbend House! We stayed in the main house and the bedroom setup was perfect for our group. Plenty space in the rooms and bathrooms. No one felt crowded. The kitchen has everything a cook could ask for and the pantry was stocked with great spices/condiments (not found in a lot of rentals). Since it has been one of the hottest summers Missoula has experienced, we spent a lot of time on the balcony, gazebo and the backyard. The hugh pines gave the yard much needed shade and the river felt great on those hot days. We didn't even miss not having a TV or internet connection, it was a nice break from the media world. I would definitely recommend Riverbend to friends/family. We will be back!

                                                            Fun on the Blackfoot

Very nice home with a beautiful view of the river. We took a guided fishing float on the Blackfoot, caught and released 30 or more trout and ended our float at this property. The home is very comfortable and nicely furnished. The only minor issues were that it was warm upstairs in the living areas with no air conditioning and there wasnt Internet service or TV. The downstairs with three bedrooms was very cool and comfortable. Would definitely stay here again.

                                                            Owner's Response:

This summer has been the hottest since we purchased the house over 20 years ago. Global warming in MT? A/C has been unheard of along the Blackfoot, but may become necessary.

Internet access is actually slower and less reliable in the Blackfoot canyon than the 3G networks on phones and pads.

This house was fantastic for our large family gathering. I would highly recommend this house. The property is on a beautiful setting right on the river. We rented tubes and paddle boards and had a great time in the river. It was even fun for the little kids too ( ages 3-8)..they loved looking for interesting rocks and small crabs. The large lawn made it fun also for the kids to play frisbee. The kitchen was well equipped and it was nice to have some stocked spices to be able to use ( most rentals don't leave you anything in the cupboards). There is plenty of space for everyone to sit and not feel crowded. The beds were all very comfortable and it is especially nice to have a great pillow when you are away from home. The owners were lovely and very easy to work with. If you need a house in the Missoula area this is a great spot!!
