Many of our past guests comment on how at peace they feel here, the quiet time to reflect, watch the birds and other wildlife, hearing the sounds of only cattle, birds, and the often hay scented breeze of rural America. We have installed a horse shoe pit in the outdoor living space where young and old alike can challenge each other to an old fashioned game of 'shoes', sit on the porches and just get to reconnect with each other. We do have Wi-Fi internet, satellite TV, and videos but you probably will find yourself drawn either outdoors, or upstairs to the game room with the pool table, game table, and lots of board games and puzzles for quality family time, or even playing a game of card or chess.
Many of our guests take scenic walks along the dirt road north of the cabin, hunt for fossils and arrow heads in the rock quarry, go have spiritual time at the beautiful white cross on the top of the hill, journal, photograph wildlife, birds, and flowers, and enjoy the quiet.
The cabin sleeps 10 easily, with air mattresses, pack and plays, high chair, folding tables and chairs available for larger groups. Two baths on the main floor and 1/2 bath in the loft area. The kitchen is fully equipped to allow preparation of meals for one, two, or dozens of hungry people. Seating will easily accompany 30+, with additional seating and tables outside. Laundry is complimentary, and basic baking supplies, bake ware and condiments, including coffee and tea is provided. Catering upon request at time of booking. Two lakes within a few miles, abundant wildlife. Sheridan County Kansas and Hoxie Kansas has prize winning deer. I work closely with a local outfitter and he provides guided and semi-guided hunts. Ice fish on the lake 5 miles away, come home, light the fireplace, grill some steaks, watch your favorite sports or program in comfort, or play a game of pool.
The cabin was the Cressler family home for over 30 years, and is decorated with rustic and antique decor, is kid friendly, and offers a full library for our guests reading enjoyment.
Three porches for viewing the beautiful Kansas sunrise and sunsets, having morning coffee, reading or relaxing. The creek can be heard on a still day, along with the songs of the birds, mooing of cattle, howl of an occasional coyote, and chirp of the crickets and frogs in the pond. About Lori Cressler
Larry and Irene Cressler built this log cabin in 1978 as their dream home. They spent 30 years living there and raising their family and enjoying holidays with extended family. They moved to town at retirement, and the decision was made to convert their home to a hunting lodge and retreat for others. Our family still uses the cabin for our special occasions. Larry may drive out by the property occasionally to check the bird feeder, barn cats, and to just enjoy the scenery. Larry and Irene farmed land owned by the Cressler ancestors for over 100 years. Sons Ross and Herb still farm the land as part of their operation and are actively involved in the rental of the cabin. Irene has recently passed away, but her spirit lives on with her beautiful flowers she planted and the birds she attracted to the bird feeder. If you see a cardinal while you are here, think of my sweet mother, coaxing them to live here with her constant filling of the bird feeders and nurturing the trees and plants around the yard. The sunrise and sunsets on the prairie are unmatched by anything you will ever experience in the city. The entire family was born and raised in the community, and have raised our children here, attending the Hoxie community schools, churches, and our extended families, cousins, and class mates still live here. Only LaRene, the eldest daughter, lives out of the county, residing in eastern Kansas to be near her kids and grandkids. The sons both ranch and farm in the area and deliver mail, and work with and help both friends and neighbors when needed. That is what a small community is about, helping others, pot luck dinners, and an all around good feeling from each other. If you are in Hoxie, have a flat tire, need help along the road, or directions to a destination, you will just need to ask.

Why Lori Cressler chose Kenneth
If you long to relax, feel at peace with the world, enjoy the stars at night, the beautiful sunrises and sunsets of Kansas, the wildlife viewing, peace and quiet, this place is where you need to be. The location is convenient, yet so secluded behind mature scotch pines. Guest often make the same observation; 'how relaxing their visit was' and 'we do not want to go home'. Many guests are repeat visitors, and/or book for a family reunion! You will get good nights sleep, breathe fresh country air, and get the opportunity to see wildlife in their natural habitat, take pictures, hike, or just sit on the porch and do absolutely nothing. Bring your basic food and beverages. Various catering options are available if requested at booking. We want to share the beauty of Cressler Creek Log Cabin with others while still maintaining ownership for our own use. Larry and Irene bought the creek land in the 1970's, and decided the live spring and meadow was the perfect place to build the rustic log cabin. Irene designed the home, which continues to serve the guests and family in comfort. All four of my (Lori) great, great grand parents migrated here on covered wagons and chose to settle in Sheridan County. They raised their families, grandchildren, and generations of us all in the area. This is a farming and ranching community of close knit, Christian families that you will find to be quite helpful and honest. I hope you can slow down, spend a few days here, and really get a feel of what small town living is like, not a lot of sirens, horns, yelling, criminals, and the like here, just home grown families living the life they love.
What makes this Cabin unique
Quiet. Scenic. Relaxation. Family Friends. Memories. A person can sit on the porch all day and not see another person. However, you are guaranteed to see deer, wild turkeys, rabbits, and many beautiful birds. Cattle and horses may amble past on their way for a drink. You will not hear the traffic, barking dogs, neighbors, or sirens. You will hear the snap of the American flag. If you want seclusion and a get away, this is the place. If you want to hunt trophy bucks, pheasants, and turkey, this is also the place. If you feel the need to reconnect with nature, the land, and breathe fresh country air, purchase local beef or pork and grill it up yourself, visit the farmers market for produce and eggs, go fishing, hiking and take your kids on an adventure into the pasture looking fur turtles, lizards, and wild flowers, and just be at peace I urge you to make Hoxie not a drive through town, but a stop and see, feel, and experience the wonder of a small town, town.

What a wonderful place to go for a relaxing evening. We are in the process of building a new facility and needing a place for your technical guys to stay. They were very pleased with a quite country location and peaceful setting. The facility more than met their expectations. Recommend this for a country laid back getaway.
Great place to get away!
What a beautiful, serene setting any time of year. Though I only stayed by myself, the lodge was large enough for multiple families. It was an excellent and relaxing getaway. I went for long walks in nature (an unusually warm day for Jan) and enjoyed the sunshine on the back porch. Saw deer, pheasant, horses, cattle and tons of birds. When it finally got cold I went indoors for the warmth of the fireplace.
Family Adventure on the Ranch
Imagine our surprise to find a rental half way across Kansas on our return trip from a ranch in Colorado. We were weary when we arrived, but upon entering the great room, one of our teenage grandsons said, "Oh, this is just the best house!" There was so much room for our family of 10. The kitchen had everything we needed for dinner. We celebrated a birthday and a retirement by watching a video, thankful for a DVD player and large screen TV. In the early morning with a cup of coffee, we were greeted on the front porch by a wild turkey and rabbit. The smell of the farm off the beaten path was something to treasure. Silence is golden!
Some friends and I rented the cabin for the weekend of spring break 2011. It was a great time! The surrounding woodsy area is perfect for walking around and admiring nature. It's a quiet and very peaceful location. Since then, we've rented the cabin twice. I'm positive we'll be renting it again at some point.
Memorial Day Reunion
We had a family reunion at the cabin over Memorial Day weekend 2013 with 30-40 people present. They came from Wichita, Ohio, Nebraska and Colorado, plus Kansas. My relatives could not believe how wonderful the cabin was..with all the sleeping options, Rv hook ups (2 or 3 brought campers)..kitchen n supplies, TV, computer hook up, all we provided was food!!! Plenty of refrigerant o r space, freezer space..all bedding, towels, etc provided!! We had a wonderful time in those 3 days!! In 2 years my Colorado cousins are having the reunion, but they are doubtful they can provide a place as great as I did!!!
Wonderful Lodge for any kind of Retreat or to just relax!
I have had the opportunity to bring my Conceal Carry Classes to the Cressler Creek Cabin and stay there as well on numerous occasions. Always treated like family by Lori and the Cressler Family, and really enjoyed every trip to Hoxie. The Cabin can be utilized in so many ways, the Cabin is located far enough off of the beaten path that you can just relax and enjoy the area and wildlife that roam the area. Sit on the porch watch the deer and turkey wander around the area, the cabin is large enough to hold family reunions or bring your whole family and enjoy a peaceful week or weekend together! A nice hidden gem located in the Hoxie area, would recommend it to anyone just wanting to get away!
