I am a French interior designer, studied in Cambridge, England and I lived in London for 12 years. Then I moved to Chablis in Burgundy, where I restored a Chateau among many other properties. I have lived in Paris for the last 30 years, where I continued Interior Decorating and Design. My two grown up children are artists and I'm very proud of them. I now want to travel the world! I would love you to share my warm, comfortable, and easy going last Parisian flat.
The Owner purchased this apartment in 2008
We stayed in Michèle’s flat for 14 fabulous days in May-June 2016. The apartment was even better than anticipated. 70 square meters is GIANT for a Paris flat. Imagine this: you come through the big doors from Blvd du Temple, cross the quiet and green cobblestone courtyard, and all the windows in front of you on the 1st floor (second American) are part of the flat. The rooms wrap around the courtyard, each room with tall shuttered windows overlooking the leafy courtyard. The décor was very special, from the colors selected for the walls and woodwork, the warm lighting and the rich fabrics, to the endless artwork. I loved the giant poster of the iconic French actress Arletty and the walls of mostly heady books in French.
For two women, the layout of the apartment was perfect. One of us had the huge main bedroom with a queen-sized bed, closets, separate washstand, TV. The other had the sweet single bedroom (such a comfy bed) and the connecting tiny study that leads to the balcony. The bedrooms were silent at night, we had such great sleep. The bathroom layout also worked well for two gals traveling together: one room with toilet and sink, the other with spacious shower and sink with big makeup counter. We made coffee in the flat in the morning with croissants from DuPain. And we had martinis in the afternoons on the balcony. I brought a cocktail shaker along in my suitcase, and Michèle’s cupboards were stocked with perfect cocktail glasses! The location – on the upper edge of the Marais and heading into the Oberkampf – was hip and affordable and perfect for returning home in the afternoons to relax in the apt. And there is so much to do in the neighborhood at night that you don’t need to cross Paris again for a fun night out. Fun cafes just a couple streets away: Le Marie Celeste, the Clown Bar, Les Enfants Rouge (Japanese-French), Moroccan couscous in Marché des Enfants Rouges, oysters at 10pm on the terrasse at Chez Jenny, Ober Mama, Maison Plisson, and the creative Greek-modern L’Olivier just downstairs.
Right outside metro line 8’s Filles du Calvaire station and the 96 and 65 busses go all across Paris. Our host, Michèle, was really wonderful in accommodating an 8am check-in for my travel partner who arrived sleepy from an international flight. Overall, a perfect location, gorgeous décor, fabulous layout, quiet, secure, with all the amenities one could ask for. I hope to make this beautiful flat my base on future visits to Paris!
After searching many other apartments, this one best fit our wishes. We were not disappointed! It is an easy one floor walk up in a great location, and the balcony overlooking a great French courtyard is beyond what we could hope for. We spent many evenings drinking wine and eating cheese from the nearby market street on the balcony. We loved the authentic Parisian interior. Both beds were very comfortable. Everything was in great working order. Michele was a wonderful hostess as other reviews indicate. Michele left great written material, including markets, restaurants and transit information. Communication was prompt and she checked in with us to be sure everything was OK. We began the week using the bus service, but service was disrupted on the weekend. We used Uber and loved it. Everything is very walkable, but knee problems restricted our walking. The Paris Attacks happened one week after our departure. My heart breaks for the losses and for our beautiful Paris. We will return.
Please read all the reviews because they are spot on. My husband and I just spent nine glorious days in Paris, our first trip there, and staying in Michele's apartment was the root of this marvelous Parisian experience. As described previously, it is a charming, tasteful, interesting , peaceful oasis in a well located area of Paris. The first few days we took the Metro (one minute away) but after we got our bearings we walked everywhere. We were blessed with perfect blue sky weather in the 60's( so I can't say what it would be like in hot summer weather) and slept in the very comfortable bed with windows open. We ended up having dinner most nights in the area, mostly Michele's suggestions, all delicious. We ate at Petite Commines, Bofinger, Pramil, Falafel King, a cafe on the street, all wonderful, but the best was the restaurant in front of the apartment, L'Olivier, owned by the lovely couple below Michele's apartment. Highly recommended! We visited the market nearby and picked up delicious pastries at the bakery around the corner each morning. There is great shopping in the Marais and most stores are open on Sundays, a bonus. Michele couldn't have been more helpful in answering all our questions and making perfect suggestions. We can't wait to go back!
We stayed in Michele's apartment for a week and recommend it highly for an authentic Parisian experience. The location in Le Marais is perfect and walkable to almost everywhere. The metro and many bus lines are just 2 minutes walk away. On arrival Michele met us at the apartment and provided us with maps and detailed local information which over the week proved to be spot on. The apartment was very comfortable and charming with an eclectic designer's style. We were blessed with perfect weather and thoroughly enjoyed the private vine clad terrace. It was an exceptional oasis for breakfast and a drink after our long days. We highly recommend Michele's apartment as a lovely home for your stay in Paris.
This place was really great in every sense. Great location, tastefully decorated, super clean and everything worked. The owner is very helpful, and speaks perfect English. Every single one of my questions were answered before arrival, and the apartment actually beat my expectation. I highly recommend this place without any reservation. Staying at this place put my American lifestyle to shame (yes, an apartment can be practical and tasteful at the same time. I often forget this back home in the US). In this sense, it wasn't just a place to sleep while sightseeing in Paris. It was a peek into another world (I loved how the collections of items from all around the world were placed together harmoniously)! I came back inspired. Now, back to practicality....the internet works fantastically (it was better than my New York Google office).
I've wanted to see Paris as a parisian, live it and feel the city at my own pace so we rented this flat and loved our time in Paris in the apartment and out thanks to it's perfect location in town. We walked everywhere and really felt like a locals.
The flat is so tastefully decorated, loaded with art and books and great historic furniture. It's not big but so cosy. refined to the slightest detail.
The courtyard with the climbing plants is so charming and romantic.. I could go on forever.. actually I think we could live in a place like that forever..
Did I mention that we highly recommend it?
