Location, location, location! Enjoy this newly restored 1940's cottage with Central Air Conditioning and heat! This cottage was designed with an eclectic touch of Cape Cod. Situated on the banks of the Genesee River, wake up to the sights and sounds of the river. Enjoy the morning mist with your first cup of coffee on your own shady private backyard deck. There is plenty of open space in the front of the house to play and lounge in the sun. Close to all area conveniences, yet private enough to have a quiet getaway.
Unlike most homeowners, we are Innkeepers. We specialize in anticipating what our guests need and desire to be comfortable. We have provided many of the same amenities that we offer at our award winning Inn. Shampoo and conditioner, sweet smelling English soaps, hairdryer, bottled water, ice, coffee and tea to start off your week, (Who can face your first morning without that!) Cleaning products, laundry detergent, just to name a few. Free wifi service, cable TV, flatscreen TV, VCR, games and all the videos and DVDs you would ever want for a rainy day.
There is a full size washer and dryer for your use, so you have less to pack and more time to spend having fun. The brand new bathroom is large, and completely redone with your comfort in mind. There is a large 2 person tiled shower with multiple shower heads. (We tried these out at the Inn - they were a hit!)
The master bedroom has a queen size bed, and the 2nd bedroom has 2 twin beds that can be converted easily to a King. A Pack n Play and an extra twin rollaway bed for a 5th guest and a child. There is plenty of room to set up in the main living area.
All linens are provided, a fully stocked kitchen with pots, pans, table linens, flatware, kitchen utensils, full size new stainless stove/oven, full size new refridgerator, microwave, and wine chiller. All the comforts of home.
The vaulted living room area has comfortable furnishings, a working stone fireplace and a pretty eating area overlooking the water.

In November 1995, Susan and husband Manny began renovating their 4 apt., 1896 mansion into a private residence. The couple raised their two daughters in the home until both left for college, moving on to points South in search of warmer climate. With a solid background in pharmaceutical sales, Susan 'jumped the corporate ship' and used her entrepreneurial spirit to open several retail gift stores in the suburbs of Rochester. With many successful years under her belt and a large 'empty nest' - Susan decided that their home just might be the perfect location to open an Inn. The home was completely renovated, repainted and restored using the original architectural plans for the home - with the addition of all new en suite bathrooms. There was nothing left untouched!
Always a warm and gregarious host and an excellent cook, Susan's husband Manny loves entertaining, antiquing, reading, sports, wine and travel; and enjoys watching the financial aspect associated with the Inn. Manny graduated from Bryant College in Providence, RI with a B.A. in Business Administration, becoming a Certified Public Accountant. He has traveled the world extensively with Xerox Corporation for the past 30+ years in corporate finance.
The Inn has enjoyed much media attention over the years. This year, the Inn was honored when voted ILoveInns and American Historic Inns prestigious '2009 Top 10 Most Romantic Inns' of North America.
In the fall of 2009, having finished the Inn, Susan went looking for a cottage to add to her business and found one. 'It was a mess, but I saw the hidden potential behind all those fake wooden walls, and mismatched pieces of history' After ripping down walls, pulling drop ceilings, replacing missing wooden floors - the house flourished.
Susan Alvarez purchased this cottage in 2010
My husband gave me a 'laundry list' of things the cottage needed to have before we bought. 'I didn't know she could find it so fast!' said Susan's husband! Water side, quiet refuge, 15 minutes from our main Inn and city. Worlds away - just minutes away! I LOVE it - and go there whenever I have the chance (between rentals!)
Our main Inn is in the heart of the city of Rochester. Going out to the cottage means mornings at the cottage are a special time - mist is rising from the water, everything is quiet and still. Soon the RIT students rowing team slides quietly by. It's just magical. In the evenings watching the sunset over the water, there is a Blue Heron that cruises gracefully by. The same time every evening! i love it. We don't have Blue Herons passing by the Inn - just an occational wild turkey! Seriously!
Dear Susan Alvarez.
It seems just like yesterday that we spent some very happy days in your "Cottage" by the river, on the occasion of our Granddaughters 21st--3rd of this month. Just to say "Thank you" for the comfort of your cottage for a family gathering from far & near & a very special thank you to the log fire!! HOW that was enjoyed--even better after we turned the heating off!!! - So, yes, we had a really happy time & thoroughly enjoyed ourselves & trust you found the place left as we found it--perfect.
With many thanks--- I & W
It was very relaxing to sit out on the back deck and enjoy the river view. It is a secluded location but still close to RIT and other Rochester venues. The cottage was clean and had all we needed for a great few days of fun with friends.
Searching for a nice meeting place between Detroit and Boston. Perfect spot. We just returned from our weekend at the beautirul river cottage. It was perfect even though the weather did not cooperate the cottage more than made up for it. It is just as magical as it looks in the photos. Susan went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable and was always available to answer any questions. The cottage was spotlessly clean and fully stocked. I'm so looking forward to visiting again. We also visited the owners bed and breakfast in Rochester which is beautiful as well. Thanks again Susan.
Great place. Nicely renovated. Beautiful view of Genesee river
This was our second time at the cottage. It is so cozy and everything you need is there for a wonderful and comfortable family holiday.
My husband, kids and I arrived late Christmas day. When we opened the door to this wonderful cottage, a lit up tree sculpture welcomed us along with cozy couches, wood floors, a fireplace, and attractive cape cod decor. All I can say is charm! Everything we needed was there. Fresh towels, washer and drier, fully-stocked kitchen, cozy beds, and a breathtaking view of the Genesee River right outside the door! This is such a great place to come away for an escape. Perfect for couples, families or girls/guys weekends! We highly recommend the place.
Just a short drive to the Lake Ontario, Finger Lakes and wineries, downtown Rochester and Letchworth State Park
