About Terrie Russell

Fond memories of going to Lake Glenville with my grandparents drew my husband and me back to the cool temperatures of this high elevation (3410'). The beautiful hikes, amazing fall colors, and quiet cool lake made this the ideal place for us to create our own special place to return to again and again. 'Big Fish' fills our hearts and restores our wellbeing!

Terrie Russell purchased this house in 2004

Why Terrie Russell chose Smoky Mountains

Beautiful fall colors reflecting off a lake that wraps around the house made this the perfect place for our home. Add the hike up our road that provides beautiful views of the Mill Creek Waterfall making its way down our mountainside. Where else would you go???

What makes this house unique

We enjoy the sound of the waterfall at the house, the kids playing on the dock, the boating and kayaking on a great peaceful lake. Our favorite hike is the three waterfalls on the hike at Horsepasture River. Our daughters and I enjoy shopping in Cashiers and Highlands while day trips range from horseback riding to gem mining and white water rafting! We try to get two boatfulls of family members down the Nantahala every year!

Remote lovely lakeside retreat

  • 4 of 5

Lovely gathering place for lots of friends and family to spend some quality time around the fire out out on the dock. Both spacious and cozy.

Weekend getaway

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at big fish was phenomenal! The house had everything you could possibly need. The kitchen is well equipped and there are plenty of towels/linens. Each room you walk into has an even better view than the last.

Fantastic Getaway Place for a large group + Very friendly and responsive host

  • 5 of 5

A big huge THANK YOU to BIG FISH from our whole "gang of 14". We will live with the memories of a fantastic and relaxing Labor Day Weekend 2015. We had a blast and the lake house made it all possible. The layout is terrific in that, while we could all hang out together, there were enough places to pick up privacy and enjoy solitude. We were very pleased with the plan of the bedrooms and bathrooms in that it afforded privacy to each of our 5 families. The lake is very pretty and with Big Fish being on the water we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves on it. A huge thanks to The Russells making their canoe, kayak and paddle board available for our use. Gave us all a good chance to be on the water and see the lake and the nearby waterfall. We would be remiss in not mentioning that Terrie was a wonderful host. She was very responsive and helpful from our initial contact through our stay. Thank You Terrie for sharing your beautiful place with us and being part of making a great weekend holiday happen for us.

Great for family reunions and retreats!

  • 5 of 5

My extended family and I enjoyed a wonderful family reunion recently at Big Fish. The house is lovely--great architecture for providing not only large group spaces (e.g. the great room on the main floor) but also smaller private areas for personal space when it is needed. The bedrooms, especially the master suites, are large and comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped, and includes a huge island that can accommodate food on the counter and bar stools beneath. The setting at the end of Memory Lane on Lake Glenville is beautiful--the water is peaceful, and the mountains--the whole setting is great for a getaway. We all had a great time; we rented a pontoon for an afternoon and puttered around the lake taking in the other beautiful homes and mountain scenery, we grilled steaks on the outdoor grill--it was all great. The owners take good care of this property. I highly recommend it and hope that I can return sometime.

Beautiful Get-A-Way

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful mini-vacation at Big Fish. The house is beautiful, spacious and very conformable. There were 12 of us adults and 2 very small children. The views from the house of the lake and the mountains are spectacular. The location is centrally located with a short 15-20 drive to Cashiers and Highlands. It's a beautiful area and we can't wait to visit Big Fish again. We highly recommend this house for your vacation.
