Surrounded by tall pines and just minutes from Yosemite's southern entrance in the residential community of Fish Camp, this traditional yet unique mountain cabin can be your home away from home while exploring the natural beauty of Yosemite National Park. The Big Pine cabin is the larger of two cabins at the Yosemite Forest Lodge.

To get here it's just a short drive off of Highway 41, through the forest along a narrow road that was once a railroad right-of-way. When you arrive you'll find your home situated in a gently-sloped clearing surrounded by a majestic grove of gigantic pines. Outside your home there is an open yard area, extensive decks and a covered front porch so you can enjoy the forest environment comfortably in any weather.

For the most accurate, up-to-date details be sure to visit our website (the link is near the bottom of this page, just look for "Yosemite Forest Lodge"). You'll find more helpful information, more pictures, and full details on our rates and policies. Our availability calendar is also there for your vacation planning convenience.

It's best to contact us by email but you can also call and leave a message if you prefer. When checking our calendar remember that we normally need a full calendar day between groups in order to prepare the house. Happy planning!

The elevation here is just over 5000 feet; it is nearly always cool and shady in the summer, with comfortable daytime highs that average in the 70's (~20 degrees Celsius) and cool evenings with average lows in the low 50's (~10 degrees Celsius). There is very little or no rain during the summer months. The low humidity means your towels and swimsuits will air-dry quickly.

Our prime location puts you away from the crowds, yet close to everything Yosemite has to offer. The southern entrance to Yosemite is less than two miles up the road. If you love the outdoors, this is the place to call home. There is so much do to here that you could easily fill your day with excitement without ever entering the park itself!

From the moment we opened the door until the hour we reluctantly left, every single surprise was a wonderful one. The location is ideal, the condition of the home perfect, the furnishings including kitchen items great, with plenty of space for a group of eight people in our case.

I have never enjoyed any vacation rental more than this. Thanks!

Home away from home

This cabin can not be beat! It is truly perfect. The location is walking distance from the general store, Tenaya Lodge, and hiking trails, and just minutes from the gates of Yosemite Park. So wether you want to eat in, go out for fine dining at the Lodge, enjoy the hotel pool or weight room (for a small fee) and other hotel activities, go horseback riding, ride the Logger, or explore the park, it's all just minutes away. The cabin itself is comfortable, clean, and huge! The extra large patio is perfect for laying out in the sun and barbecuing. It couldn't be more pet or child friendly. It had everything we needed and then some. When my family goes on vacation we go to Yosemite. When we got to Yosemite there is no place we would rather stay than at the Yosemite Forest Lodge.

House was amazing. We were stunned when we arrived. They had everything we needed. Kitchen was so well equipped. Loved all the small extras we found all over house. This house would be perfect getaway for bigger group. We had only 1 family, so everyone had their space. I will warmly recommend this house, thank you so much for letting us experience this. Yosemite was wonderful!

Awesome!

  • 5 of 5

My kids and I had an awesome time at Big Pine. Having all of the comforts of home, and really only needing to bring clothes since the cabin is so well-stocked with the basics, made things so easy. We hit the Von's in Oakhurst before arriving and stocked up with food that we prepared in the full kitchen, so we were able to have home cooked meals and save money! We were treated to an April snow day, which added to the experience, and the caretaker showed up to shovel the walkways and driveway, which was a really nice touch. We took advantage of all of the amenities, and I was able to test my snowy BBQ skills...grilling in the snow was definitely a first. The place is very well kept, clean, and organized, and the smallest details are covered, like a metal dustpan and pail near the fireplace to easily clean up after a nice fire. All in all, we loved it, and hope to return soon. Thank you!

Car: necessary

The Big Pine cabin at Yosemite Forest Lodge is located in Fish Camp right across the highway from the Tenaya Lodge where you'll find a health spa, several dining options and lots of activities all year round. It's about a 5 minute drive from our house to the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park and about 45 minutes to the valley floor itself. You can try your luck at fishing or just splash in the water of nearby Big Creek or if you prefer, drive 20 minutes to Bass Lake for lots of beach and boating fun.

If you need to buy something small there is a convenience store right in Fish Camp. If you're looking for something more you'll find a full range of shopping and dining options in the town of Oakhurst just a 20 minute drive down the hill.

Other Activities: Kayaking, Boating, Snowboarding, Snowmobiling, Wildlife Viewing, Health/Beauty Spa

Ski: Yosemite's Badger Pass is about a 45 minute drive from our cabin. It is California's first downhill ski area at an elevation of 7200 ft. The snow is all natural and plentiful. The modest slopes and minimal development make this a perfect place for young skiers and families. With extensive cross-country ski and snowshoe trails, and even a tubing area, Badger Pass has all the winter fun you could ask for!
