About Peter

We built this retirement house in 2006 but we are not quite ready to retire. In the meantime we would like others to see the beauty of north Florida and its rivers.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear "River Hidaway" folks,

We had a wonderful several days at your lovely retirement home in the idyllic setting of the Suwannee River. We hope to be able to go back. It was probably the most relaxing several days we have ever had. The internet pictures do not do it justice.

The rainy Sunday was spent on the porch reading, relaxing and watching the rain on the river. We loved fishing from the dock and enjoying all the decks.

We have told several others of your wonderful getaway and we hope to be back soon.

Thank you.

Outstanding welcoming home right on the Suwannee River

  • 5 of 5

Couldn't believe how lucky we were to have stayed in such a beautiful home that had all the comforts of home and also be right long the Suwanee River. The house had all bedding, kitchen supplies, bath towels, Gas Grill and so much more. Even had a double Kayak and a Canoe for our use. Owners thought of everything to make the home feel comfortable. The master bathroom shower was huge and very modern and updated. Very clean.

The home had many improvements and updates. The fire pit was welcoming and the 3 tier dock we spent a lot of time on.

Woke up each morning at 6:15 to watch the Sunrise and the Sturgeon jumping in the water! We even found the Pot Hole Spring in the Kayak just a few min from the house. Lovely fresh blue water spring!

We will defiantly be back soon for a longer stay! Three nights wasn't enough!

Almost want to give a bad review so we can keep this hidden gem a secret! 😃?

Thank you for allowing us into your beautiful home!

Nancy and Paul

Had a wonderful get away with my sweetie.

  • 5 of 5

The house was everything promised and more. Clean, well appointed, and very comfortable.

The shower in the master bedroom is HUGE. Very relaxing.

We took day trips each day. Plenty to do within a short drive, if you're inclined.

Mosquitoes: The woods around the front gate are thick with them. The decks and docks are much clearer thanks to the breeze from the river. Bring repellent.

Wasps: The decks had a few wasp nests. I was stung the first day by the fire pit. Not the end of the world. I'm from Florida, so I'm accustomed to wasps and bees. Price of doing business. Bring wasp spray.

Kitchen was spacious and well equipped. We cooked each day. Pots, pans, etc were well stocked.

Washer/Dryer worked flawlessly.

We would rent again and recommend this house to friends and family.

Owner's Response: Thanks for this comprehensive 5 star review. Our house keeper does a fantastic job & we will pass your compliment on to her. Nearby places of interest include: tubing on the Ichetucknee river, Troy Springs, Fanning Springs, Manatee Springs State Parks & Bobs Place, a local water park. The Great Outdoors restaurant & antiquing is popular in nearby High Springs. For breakfast, lunch or dinner be sure to eat at Akins Barbecue in Bell. Two kayaks & a canoe are available to explore the river & close by springs. We don't recommend walking in the woods at night due to summer rains & the mosquitos that will greet you. We hope your bee sting was a minor discomfort. Our pest control guy is looking for that guy now. Please return anytime & thanks for staying at the Original Suwannee River Hideaway. Peter

Outstanding amenities!

  • 5 of 5

I was apprehensive at first due to a river rental in the past that was far from being acceptable. This home is simply perfect with an amazing view. The sleeping arrangements were perfect, the layout of the home perfect, and cleanliness was outstanding. We did not want to leave! I was ready to call the owner and ask to stay the remainder of the week! I will definitely request to rent this home again. The dock was amazing (but bring bug spray!) Thank you to the owners for allowing us to rent this property. We will be back!
