Our cabin is 20 years old. It was built by the original owner who was a carpenter and the owner of a mill. His attention to detail and craftsmanship are over the top. If you appreciate woodwork you’ll love our cabin. Fishing on the lake offers pike, walleye, perch and bass to name a few. A couple of years ago someone caught a 47” inch pike (at least this is what I’m told.)

I own a film production company that specializes in commercials in Chicago. I’ve produced independent movies as well. I’m married to a school teacher and we have two kids. When I’m not driving kids around I coach my son’s soccer team in the fall, always a good time.
Ed Amaya purchased this cabin in 2000
We live in Chicago and my wife is from the area. We wanted a place of our own to stay when we visited family and friends because we had children who were 4 and 2 at that time. We figured that the cabin would help us build memories to cherish as we all got older. In fact during our last visit my wife and I overheard our kids talking to each other about memories of the first pig roast we had at the cabin. That really brought a smile to our faces. Beyond this we loved the location. While it’s nestled in the woods on a lake we are close to relatives, shopping and more importantly a Starbucks. If you go in the opposite direction you go deeper into the woods where you can find fishing streams and waterfalls. All the properties on the lake have an acre of land so you have separation from the neighbors. It’s a very quiet getaway.
From the minute you step out of your car you smell the clean air of the U.P., a distinctly woodsy smell. Rarely do you see planes flying overhead. Once inside the cabin you’ll marvel at the view of the lake. As I always say, “the view alone is worth the price of admission.” With each passing day you’re able to sleep in a little longer because the area is so peaceful. There is even a nesting pair of eagles that live on the basin.
My husband and I loved our vacation at this wonderful cabin. The lake is a great size and we got out in our kayaks every day. The water was nice and calm and it was fun to paddle past the bridges to the river. Enjoyed the sandy beach area and the sauna. The cabin has everything you need, was great to have a dishwasher and washer and dryer. Location is convenient to run into Marquette for dinner or a beer or two at the Ore Dock. We were able to see the Northern Lights one night on our way home from an evening in Marquette. Hope to come back a little earlier in the summer sometime to fully enjoy the beach area.
We loved staying here- felt like home when we left! With family in Marquette and Ishpeming, it was the perfect middle point for everyone to meet up, and for us to drive. Snowmobiling, ice fishing, sauna, and private enough to feel like an escape.
Very clean and lots of space! Our family took over the lower space, inlaws on main floor and my parents up stairs in the loft.
Parking was a bit tight for a our trailer but that is all! Definitely will rent again.
thank you ed!
We stayed at this nice Cabin and found so much to do we ended up using it as a home base. We want to stay again sometime when we can just enjoy the private beach and other amenities that come with this Home away from Home.
The Lake is peaceful & Sun Rises wonderful. Even though it was just my husband and myself this home could easily accommodate 3 couples each having their own area one downstairs, one on the main level and the other in the loft above or great place for an extended family i.e. grandchildren, teenagers and the like.
We found Sandy beaches all over the area including the one right here at this cabin. Picked rock, hiked a number of trails to the most beautiful Waterfalls and saw some of the best Scenic Overlooks anywhere.
We visited a number of Antique shops. There is shopping available for any taste.
Our goal was to spend as much time hiking and with nature that we could and we did!
I took over 1,000 pictures.
We had some rain but mostly Sun and mid 70's and one day even 80 in Sept!
It was one of our most awesome Vacations!!
Thanks Ed for sharing this lovely home and piece of earth with us!
Ed is wonderful to work with. We rent a number of VRBO's each summer and this rental was so easy to rent! Seamless really.
The feel is inviting and the surroundings made it easy for us to make this our home for the week.
Thanks Ed for being so great to work with and sharing your wonderful Lake Home.
Lisa & Jeff Labor Day 2014
We recently traveled to the beautiful UP for a weekend getaway/wedding. The cabin was the perfect distance from town, secluded and very well maintained. We had a 1 year old with us for the weekend and the cabin layout was perfect for her to room without worry. We will definitely be staying here again in the near future!
We stayed at this wonderful house twice. The first time was about 8 years ago and then again for just after Christmas 2012. We actually took pictures of the kids on the stairs both times as a "then" and "now". This last time, we got delayed because of a snow storm. We have family in the area and this house was perfect! We have a lot of kids and our oldest was living in Marquette at the time. He has since moved to Tampa! While it isn't possible for us to return this year, we are hoping we can return for another winter vacation. We loved how close we were to Marquette, skiing, sledding and yet still felt so deep in the woods. The owners were absolutely fantastic to work with both times and even helped us with our delayed arrival. The kitchen is awesome and well equipped for family dinners. The house is cozy yet there were plenty of spaces for everyone to go. We really hope to go back someday. The pictures on this site don't do it justice. Link to the website as those picture give a better idea of how beautiful the property is. It is even more impressive in person! Thank you so much for all the great memories. PS. The review form would not allow us to an arrival date more than 6 months ago for a review so we just entered yesterdays date.
Our family from lower Michigan and northern Wisconsin planned a weekend in the UP, and we'd rented a cottage from someone else. Two days before we were supposed to arrive, their pipes burst, leaving us scrambling to find another rental. Luckily Ed's cottage was available, and he graciously allowed us to cram 7 adults and 2 kids into the space at the last minute! Turns out it wasn't crammed at all- for such a cozy-looking house, there is PLENTY of space inside, and the house is lovely. Roads and driveway were completely plowed, and porch/walk were shoveled before we arrived. However, a few of the roads were icy- bring your 4WD in winter if possible. We had a 2WD van, and made it in and out, but a few spots in the road were nervous-making. The kids LOVED the loft and all the games that we found there. The adults loved the sauna! We shoveled our way down and found it LOVELY and very clean. Beds were very comfortable; we all slept well. Two beds are in a loft that would be open to main-floor noise (e.g. kitchen, front and side door), but it worked out fine. We relegated late-nighters to the separate living room in the finished basement, where they shut the door, and everyone got the privacy they needed. The kitchen is VERY well supplied- we didn't know what to expect and brought our own pots and pans and knives; totally unnecessary. Very nice knives, heavy duty cookware, toaster and toaster oven, large coffee pot and coffee grinder (and filters in the cupboard above), and even spices and cooking oils. I'm not sure if these are normally kept stocked or if the last renters left them, but it was a nice surprise. (We could not, however, find a cutting board- good thing we brought one!) Also nice surprise: 4 pair of resident snowshoes! We ended up spending more time sledding and xc skiing (trailhead just a few miles down the road). Large washer and dryer in bathroom. GREAT selection of family games in every room! Highly recommended to anyone visiting the Marquette/Negaunee area. Note:Be sure to turn Right TWICE onto 510 (you turn onto 510, then you have to turn right again onto 510 before turning onto Neejee). Googlemap it before you go, and look carefully for road signs!
Deposit to hold rental. Pay remaining amount due when checking out.
