About Steve Matheson

We built the cabin in 1981 and have lovingly updated it ever since. As soon as your walk through the door, relaxation begins and everyday stress dissolves. We love to hike, ski, swim, snowshoe and ride our bikes. Nothing like a cold beer or crisp glass of white wine on the deck , breathing the fresh mountain air, is good for what ails you

Steve Matheson purchased this cabin in 1979

Why Steve Matheson chose Whistler

Away from the hustle and bustle of the Whister town centre, but close enough to enjoy it, we love the feeling of walking out our door into nature

What makes this cabin unique

Great space for couples or larger families. The layout allows both privacy and quiet or entertaining; whichever you choose. The loft with a professional size pool table and smart/Apple TV is perfect for the teenagers while the adults enjoy a glass of wine in front of the wood burning fireplace on the cozy couch and chairs, while listening to your favourite music downloaded onto the Bose wave sound system, .

Guestbook comments from the owner

The cabin worked out well and the location was great for us. We are glad we didn't stay in the village. We burned a lot of wood and slept great. You have a jewel there and we will return if we get back up that way again.

The very best place to stay in Whistler,BC

  • 5 of 5

We want to thank the Matheson's so much for sharing their wonderful chalet home with us for the week. We really really enjoyed the coziness, the complete courteousness, the love shown, in your home. The pictures your home does not do enough justice of how comfortable we were. It was a dream come true. You can't see the heated tile floor, the long dining table, all you need, and more in the kitchen, the deck, with a forest view, and gas barbecue . I could go on and on, but I won't. We will be back. Thank you.

Our family (we have two kids), plus two grandparents, spent some time in Steve's cabin this January (2015), and had a truly wonderful time during our stay. Our kids are very young, and they had so much fun exploring the cabin. We found the place easy (directions were clear), and it was well prepared for our visit: everything was very clean and tidy. The cabin is very inviting, cozy, and quite spacious - there was plenty of room for sleep (3 bedrooms) and hang out (downstairs and upstairs). The kitchen was very well stocked, we cooked most of our meals. Linen and towels were plentiful and clean. We were lucky to be there during a heavy snowfall, we all loved watching it, and going out with kids to play. The wood stove served us well to warm up after we came back inside. One thing we didn't have time to enjoy was the sauna.

The cabin is a short drive to Whistler, we went there a couple of times during our stay, for lunch and to walk around. We didn't go skiing/snowboarding, but, the cabin is a good base for winter activities in Whistler. The cabin is located close to a railroad, but, the trains go by very infrequently (twice a day or so), and they were not annoying (on the contrary, kids liked watching them go by).

Our correspondence with Steve was very clear and easy (e-mail, phone). Thanks Steve, we hope to come back and visit your cabin again!

beautiful gem

  • 5 of 5

Not long after securing our Squamish Valley Music Festival passes, our thoughts turned to "where to stay?" While the festival camp atmosphere has its obviously excellent fun and party vibe, we were hoping to find some peace and quiet and bathrooms and beds too. We were so lucky to find this spacious, comfortable and well-stocked cabin, just a short drive to either Whistler or Squamish. Sitting on the large porch out back, atop a small cliff, you are surrounded by woods, the same woods that Bella and Edward flew through and their glory can not be overstated. The trains that passed once or twice a day turned into a highlight, freight trains are fun enough; but when a people train goes by, you can wave at the passengers it's awesome ! This cabin has every convenience and comfort of home you can think of, right in the middle of the nature. The entire process from the first email to the last, the owners were so friendly, accommodating and welcoming. We had a wonderful time and will cherish the memories forever. Thank you!
