Overview

About the property

House, 7 Bedrooms, 5 Baths, (Sleeps 14)

Located at 2408 Dauphine Street, the first thing you will notice on approaching the fully restored 1880's, 2-story frame Italianate house is the exceptionally fine wrought iron corn stalk fence at the front of the property (one of three known in New Orleans). The front of the house is a 3-bay, columned, double gallery with diamond motifs, decorative wrought iron railings, a recessed doorway, and cornice with paired brackets.

The interior has all the features of an American townhouse in the Italianate design including side hall staircase and beautiful heart pine floors throughout. Boasting of 14 foot ceilings on the ground floor and 12 foot ceilings on the second floor, the 4,400 square feet comprises seven guest rooms decorated in period style appointments and complete original decorative mantles. All bedrooms save one open to a balcony or to the large L-shaped courtyard with brick patio, two covered seating areas, and fountain.

This lovely home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and decorated throughout with many beautiful and unique items from the owners’ extensive art collection.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We are not sure how we found Collinwood House but we could not have been happier with our choice for our first visit to New Orleans. From the moment we touched down, Tom provided, on request, great advice on everything local-transportation, eats, and music. The location was perfect: while the Marigny is close to Frenchman Street and the French Quarter, the house is on a quiet street and an easy walk. The furnishings were both comfortable and impressive, and the outdoor space an added bonus.

Beautiful House in Perfect Location

  • 5 of 5

This house is absolutely beautiful! I stayed here with 10 girls for a bachelorette party and it was perfect. It is about a 10-15 minute walk from Frenchman Street (or a ~$5 uber), which was super fun. There are plenty of beds and sleeping spaces, and 5 bathrooms, which is really helpful with so many girls getting ready at once. The house itself is so beautifully decorated - we did not need to decorate very much to make it look festive for the bachelorette party. There is a beautiful backyard space as well. Chuck (owner) was very helpful and nice and was very available if we needed anything. He has also installed a great alarm system for security, which is great for peace of mind while we were out of the house. I would very highly recommend this house for any groups of 10-14 people who are looking for a great spot close to nightlife, but still quiet and lovely!

Great property

  • 5 of 5

We travel quite a lot and often rent apartments & houses for our group. This has to rate up there with the best. Beautiful property with a great location for easy access to all the neat stuff in New Orleans. Our group especially enjoyed the outside garden at the end of the day to enjoy our wine and friendship. Chuck was a fabulous host with great restaurant suggestions as well as attending to our every need. The music on Frenchmen street just a few blocks away was fabulous. The house is very well equipped with all the basic amenities. Can't say enough about this place and the proprietor.

Elegant yet comfortable home for a large party

  • 5 of 5

Collinwood House is amazing. The spaces are comfortable, beautiful and every room is a work of art. We were a party of 12 and had comfortable quarters all around, but space to congregate together with no crowding. Chuck and Tom are wonderful hosts to a property making a visit to NOLA one we will mark as memorable, comfortable and exceptional well beyond our expectations! Thank you!

Fancy, prime location, packed full of antiques

  • 5 of 5

Chuck and Tom were fabulous, accommodating hosts. House was very fancy with high ceilings, tons of historic character, an extensive number of antiques and a lot of attention to detail. Quality of the rooms and finishes were as described/pictured. Easy walking distance to Frenchman and Bywater establishments along with its own super cute/legit Marigny neighborhood bars/restaurants. Very minor caveats: Definitely a place for adults who are OK taking their party elsewhere (beautifully decorated formal living/dining room was not especially conducive to rowdy gatherings). And one room (one of those with two twins) did require that you access it through another. Both of these were not issues at all, however, and didn't detract from our stay.
