Space 3,860 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

About the property

House, 7 Bedrooms, 5 Baths, (Sleeps 14)

Located at 2408 Dauphine Street, the first thing you will notice on approaching the fully restored 1880's, 2-story frame Italianate house is the exceptionally fine wrought iron corn stalk fence at the front of the property (one of three known in New Orleans). The front of the house is a 3-bay, columned, double gallery with diamond motifs, decorative wrought iron railings, a recessed doorway, and cornice with paired brackets.

The interior has all the features of an American townhouse in the Italianate design including side hall staircase and beautiful heart pine floors throughout. Boasting of 14 foot ceilings on the ground floor and 12 foot ceilings on the second floor, the 4,400 square feet comprises seven guest rooms decorated in period style appointments and complete original decorative mantles. All bedrooms save one open to a balcony or to the large L-shaped courtyard with brick patio, two covered seating areas, and fountain.

This lovely home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and decorated throughout with many beautiful and unique items from the owners’ extensive art collection.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We are not sure how we found Collinwood House but we could not have been happier with our choice for our first visit to New Orleans. From the moment we touched down, Tom provided, on request, great advice on everything local-transportation, eats, and music. The location was perfect: while the Marigny is close to Frenchman Street and the French Quarter, the house is on a quiet street and an easy walk. The furnishings were both comfortable and impressive, and the outdoor space an added bonus.

Heart of New Orleans - never want to leave

  • 5 of 5

This house is centrally located to Frenchmen and Bourbon street, two of the livest spots in New Orleans. I was visiting with a group for Mardi Gras and we wanted to experience New Orleans like a local. This house located in a residential area where the locals hang out and parades travel the streets. The house is very large and decorated with period pieces from when the house was originally built. We spent lots of time on the balconies and porches taking in the weather and passing by Mardi Gras revelers. The house was beautifully decorated for Mardi Gras when we arrived and put us in the mood to celebrate. The owners of this house have put a lot of work in to decorating and upkeep of this house. We didn't have any issues or complaints. Chuck was available whenever we needed him and provided the highest level of customer service. We hope to return to this house soon.....

We rented the Collinwood House for a 40th Birthday/Sugar Bowl trip and all I can say is, WOW, it’s SPECTACULAR!!! From the moment we arrived, we knew we’d made an excellent choice in choosing to rent the Collinwood House through VRBO. The entire booking process was super easy and the owner, Chuck, was an absolute pleasure to work with! Chuck was there to greet us upon arrival (even reserving a parking spot for us right in front of the house!) and was very knowledgeable about the home, the neighborhood, and where to go for what (restaurants, grocery stores, etc.).

I have to say, the home is EVEN MORE beautiful than you can see in the pictures and I was quite surprised at how comfortable and welcoming it was. There were fourteen of us staying at the Collinwood House and there was plenty of space for our group to sit back and relax by the player piano after a long day in the French Quarter (yes, there’s a player piano that’s SO MUCH FUN!!). We cooked dinner one night at the Collinwood House and had everything we needed to prepare a multi-course meal – all appliances were in excellent condition (there’s even a wine refrigerator!), there was more than enough counter space to prep food on, and there were also ample dishes, glassware, and silverware.

If you’re looking for a beautiful, spacious well-appointed home in New Orleans to accommodate a large group, this is truly THE PLACE to stay! The home is within walking distance or a quick UBER ride to anyplace you’d want to go and our group never felt unsafe walking around the neighborhood.

Thank you so much, Chuck, for all you did to make this such a memorable trip for our group – we’re already looking forward to our next visit to the Collinwood House!
