French Quarter Ambiance Without the Hustle and Bustle!

Bedrooms 7
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

House, 7 Bedrooms, 5 Baths, (Sleeps 14)

Located at 2408 Dauphine Street, the first thing you will notice on approaching the fully restored 1880's, 2-story frame Italianate house is the exceptionally fine wrought iron corn stalk fence at the front of the property (one of three known in New Orleans). The front of the house is a 3-bay, columned, double gallery with diamond motifs, decorative wrought iron railings, a recessed doorway, and cornice with paired brackets.

The interior has all the features of an American townhouse in the Italianate design including side hall staircase and beautiful heart pine floors throughout. Boasting of 14 foot ceilings on the ground floor and 12 foot ceilings on the second floor, the 4,400 square feet comprises seven guest rooms decorated in period style appointments and complete original decorative mantles. All bedrooms save one open to a balcony or to the large L-shaped courtyard with brick patio, two covered seating areas, and fountain.

This lovely home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and decorated throughout with many beautiful and unique items from the owners’ extensive art collection.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We are not sure how we found Collinwood House but we could not have been happier with our choice for our first visit to New Orleans. From the moment we touched down, Tom provided, on request, great advice on everything local-transportation, eats, and music. The location was perfect: while the Marigny is close to Frenchman Street and the French Quarter, the house is on a quiet street and an easy walk. The furnishings were both comfortable and impressive, and the outdoor space an added bonus.

  • 5 of 5

We rented this wonderful house for the groomsmen and their spouses attending my son's wedding, and they were all very happy with the house.

Perfect Venue for a Birthday Bash

  • 5 of 5

Eleven women stayed at Collinwood House for four nights in October, 2017, to celebrate five special 2017 birthdays. From the start, the communication and coordination with Chuck Woodall was outstanding. The house exceeded our expectations which were quite high based on the photos and the descriptions of the house and rooms. We really appreciated the historical nature of the house, the amazing furnishings and artwork, the cleanliness, the many indoor and outdoor areas to relax and meet in small and large groups, and much more.

The location was perfect. We walked almost everywhere, and there were some local cafes and shops to meet our needs close to home. We had a lovely chef come in to prepare our birthday bash dinner, and it was an excellent decision to do this.

Chuck was extremely accommodating with several special requests as well as with our varying arrival and departure times, stopping by to make sure everything was fine. We felt safe at all times with and without the alarm system.

We'd love to do it again, and I highly recommend it for a large group of 10-14 people. There are 10 beds, so with 10 everyone has their own bed; with 14, some people need to double up (there are beds large enough for this to be comfortable).

We made many wonderful memories in New Orleans with the jazz, food, beverages, museums, neighborhoods, people, shopping, Krewe of Boo Halloween parade, and something for everyone, BUT it was the Collinwood House that made it even more special.

Thanks, Chuck!

The pictures don't do it justice!

  • 5 of 5

This house was much bigger and nicer in person -- the pictures don't do it justice! We had a bachelorette party of 14 girls and everyone had a bed to sleep in, with extra space for additional people, if needed. Chuck was an amazing host and was very thorough and helpful during check in. He was also very accommodating to our flight schedules. I definitely recommend this house for a big group that's trying to be in a spacious house in a fantastic location. Walking distance to the french quarter and a short uber ride to bourbon street.

The Best way to see New Orleans

  • 5 of 5

I can't say enough about the owner and this house. We had 10 women for a fun extended weekend. The owner made sure we had everything we needed to make our stay pleasant. The house is well maintained and well stocked for guests. We were able to walk or quick Uber to New Orleans destinations. We felt safe in the neighborhood and walking to the local stores, restaurants and the jazz clubs. Thanks so much

We stayed at the house for 3 nights with 11 guys on a bachelor party. The house is huge, the outdoor space is great, and Chuck is an excellent host. I would recommend this house to everyone, and plan to stay here on my next trip to nola!

Increadible House

  • 5 of 5

The Collinwood House was an incredible home-base for our New Orleans weekend. Its an architectural wonder, decorated immaculately, and enormous, with plenty of space to sleep a large group (we had 8 people and everyone had their own bed). Chuck was also great to work with, gave great recommendations in the neighborhood, and was very accommodating of our flight schedules for arrival/departure.
