About Shane Haffey

Our Creed:

We believe that travel, holiday and staycation are not mutually exclusive and that all should be approached with the mindset of presence rather than productivity.

We believe that the art of sauntering should become the national past time.

We believe that it is right and just to crave and appreciate beauty for beauties sake.

We believe that those who work hard, are entitled to play hard; even if that means drinking bloodies and bubbles before noon, playing croquet and dozing on the chaise for the afternoon, dining late and garden walking by moonlight.

We believe that one should always dress for dinner; but that “dress” is a relative term and can mean black tie or a monogrammed bathrobe.

We believe the paper invitations are essential for the survival of civilization

but paper napkins are the bane of man’s existence as a sensual being.

We believe that even though “to whom much is given, much is expected,” the dutiful deserve the Golden Ticket, the prefect's hall pass and the winning trifecta tote.

We believe in the philosophy of Oscar Wilde that "Life is too important to be taken seriously."

Shane Haffey purchased this chateau / country house in 2003

Why Shane Haffey chose Lexington

As part of the original pre-revolutionary land grant with the Daniel Boone settlements in the heart of bluegrass thoroughbred and bourbon country, Fairyhouse Hall remains true to its roots as an 18th century sustainable farm where the soil feeds itself, the family who worked the land and their visitors.

Purchased in 2000 by Shane Haffey (IRE) and Heather Boone McKeever Haffey (USA); the couple of 23 years are Master Gardeners, lovers of heritage livestock breeds, avid fox hunters, naturalists and culinarians. As the proprietors and purveyors, they share an a ardent belief that food is love and medicine. Their opinions diverge in one respect, where Chef Shane prescribes that "all sorrows are made better with bread," Heather would replace "bread" with "bubbles," with no disrespect to Cervantes and his beloved Don Quixote.

Bourbon sipping and horse racing trip

  • 5 of 5

Booked this home with husband and 3 other couples..... could not be more pleased with this awesome house. Each couple had private suite with king bed and private bath. Plenty of privacy. The food was superb and expertly prepared by chef Shane. Met his lovely wife in the garden... enjoyed her stories of surrounding properties !!! Also enjoyed the animals and the roosters and hens were quite entertaining. Everything we needed for an enjoyable vacation. Hope to return next year for another trip to keenland and surrounding bourbon distilleries. Great time with friends and enjoyed making new ones!!!! Thank you again Shane. Outstanding family getaway

  • 5 of 5

We celebrated my husband's birthday with our seven adult children coming from Indiana and California. The home and grounds are beautiful. The spaciousness of the home provided a comfortable settings for us as a group but also allowed plenty of privacy. The furnishings are grand and unique but very comfortable. The home felt warm and inviting. Highly recommend Chef Shane's breakfast and dinner. The catered meals were delicious and beautifully presented. Fabulous place. We look forward to a return visit.

A Bachelor Weekend to Remember

  • 5 of 5

Shane and Heather of Fairyhouse Hall curated an amazing bachelor party weekend. We stayed Friday through Sunday and were treated to 3 stellar local meals, amazing rooms and grounds, and insightful, friendly conversation over the course of our weekend with them. I couldn't recommend this place more and will be looking for any excuse to bring back a group soon. Their hospitality, property and food were top notch. Thanks again for everything guys. You made the Groom to be's weekend something extra special.

Excellent Fairyhouse Hall Experience

  • 5 of 5

A group of us stayed at Fairyhouse Hall for the Breeder's Cup in October and we couldn't have had a better experience. To start, the house is gorgeous, large, and each room extremely comfortable especially due to each suite having it's own bathroom. The master bedroom was incredible, and overall everyone was happy with their accommodations. Shane and Heather are two very kind people, and excellent host; we really enjoyed them! Shane is also a chef and we were able to have a dinner party for 24 people at the house, which included steak, wine, soup, salad, all were delicious. It was very nice for us to be able to have the dinner party at the house, and it was a beautiful setting to have our friends come to. I would definitely recommended the house for anyone with a large group or even if you don't have a large group and want a bed and breakfast type accommodation. Overall, we were very happy to have stayed at Fairyhouse hall, and appreciated our great host, Shane and Heather.

Beautiful Mansion in horse country

  • 5 of 5

My friends and family had a wonderful time staying at Fairyhouse Hall during the spring Keeneland meet. The house is very large and spacious with beautiful horse farms and farmland surrounding the property. The best perk staying at Fairyhouse Hall was having Chef Shane cook breakfast and dinner for us each day. We enjoyed the farm to table cuisine he prepared, which allowed us to spend more time relaxing and conversing with each other. Shane is also available anytime to help you with any questions you may have. The house is exactly as described. My party included 12 adults and an infant and we had plenty of room in the house. The first floor bedroom was perfect for grandma. The four bedrooms on the second floor were all very comfortable and spacious and the master bedroom is enormous. The last bedroom with four single beds is on the top floor and even though we had four guys sleeping in this room this trip, I would recommend it for children and teenagers.

I would highly recommend Fairyhouse Hall, especially if you like nature and enjoy a more intimate experience with friends and family while having a private chef take care of your meals. There is not a better place in Lexington to stay. I plan to stay here whenever visiting Lexington with family and friends.
