This has been our home for 30 years and we are long time residents of Hawaii. We live on the property and will try to make your stay wonderful. My husband and I built the home and we try very hard to provide a neat and attractive place.
Sue Keliiliki purchased this apartment in 1980
Laie is a special place. The people are friendly and have the Aloha spirit. Laie is a safe, small town. Yet there are lots of places to eat and explore. There is a cute cafe just down the road where you can get a delicious, huge and inexpensive breakfast or lunch.
The property overlooks the awesome view of Laie Bay. You can just sit on the bench overlooking the water and totally relax and enjoy nature at its finest. We have 2 turtles which can be seen bobbing their heads up in the surf. Many of our clients spend quiet time just basking in the gorgeous view. Sunrise is so special rising up from the ocean.
We loved our 8 days in Paradise. Sue is a wonderful hostess, we felt very welcome. It was amazing to go to sleep to the sound of the waves and to wake up to the same sound. To just walk outside and be on the beach for sunrise was unbelievable. The home is very comfortable and we were completely at ease. Can't wait to come back real soon! Mahalo Sue
We took a family trip to Hawaii for a week. Sue was amazing! She made us feel like we were family staying the week. The view from the apartment is breathtaking and you can literally see/hear the ocean all day. I counted the steps from the stairs to the beach - 12. Every morning my wife, daughter (3 yrs), and I would wake up in the early morning and walk the beach while watching the sunrise. The beach is impeccable and the waves vary from smooth to fun, but never too strong or big. The location is superb if you want to explore the "real" Hawaii. I spent many hours researching where we would stay in Hawaii; trust me - Sue is the way to go.
We recently returned from our annual paradise-seeking retreat to Laie and the North Shore.
Sue and Dale offer their Aloha spirit and make you feel like you’re Ohana. We always feel welcome and enjoy being a part of their community. They are the best.
Sue and Dale’s vacation rental is a perfect getaway with a million dollar (second story) view – indeed a breath-taking panoramic paradise overlooking Hukilau Bay, Goat Island and the north side of Laie Point (spotted whales on occasion). The area also offers endless possibilities for exploration and discovery.
The two bedroom unit is spacious, has a large functional kitchen, panoramic entry and a comfortable sitting area. It’s a great value, very clean and is well maintained.
The beach is just steps away; the calming sound of the ocean is guaranteed to offer a restful night.
A morning walk on the beach to watch the sunrise is an unforgettable way to start your day in paradise.
Laie’s location is convenient to several famous North Shore attractions; Polynesian Cultural Center, Laie LDS Temple. 10min to Turtle Bay Resort and golf courses - 20min to Sunset, Pipeline, Waimea Bay, 30min to Hale’iwa, 45min to Windward beaches and attractions and 1hr to HNL airport.
Our favorite places to eat in the area include Kahuku Grill (Kahuku), Seven Brothers Backyard Burgers (Laie), Papa Ole’s Kitchen (Hau’ula), Matsumoto’s Shave Ice and Grass Skirt Grill (Hale’iwa), Seven Brothers Food Truck, The Elephant Truck/Beach Thai Food and Ted’s Bakery (Sunset area). Ted’s Bakery malasadas are worth the drive; arrive early in the morning before they’re all gone.
Nearby amenities at Laie Shopping Center include, Foodland, Subway, Taco Bell, Laie Palms Cinemas - a cool retro movie theater, bank/ATM, Post Office, Pizza Hut and ACE hardware store. Long’s Drug, North Shore Tacos, Dominoes Pizza in Hau’ula shopping center and Turtle Bay Resort are also nearby.
Being repeat visitors to Laie, we’ve had the opportunity to meet many wonderful people and have renewed old acquaintances. There’s no question - we will return again and again.
If you’re looking for a quiet, relaxing place to enjoy paradise – stay away from the mayhem of Waikiki, this is the place for you!
Where do I begin? We stayed two weeks on Oahu, of which five nights were here in Laie. What a great place -- the hosts (Sue and Dale), the home, location and town! We will come back here "in a heart beat" the next time we visit Oahu!
THE HOUSE: The rental has a slightly weird layout, but for good reason . . . As you enter the home, the "living room" is long and narrow because it showcases the beautiful ocean view from this room. Both very large comfortable bedrooms enter from this living room, and both have large closets and plenty of drawer space. Even though it only has one bathroom (and we were four adults), it is a large room with plenty of space. The kitchen is large with a nice eat-in kitchen table. The bedrooms and living room are on the ocean side of the house so the waves sway you to sleep at night. The kitchen and bathroom are on the street side so we never heard any traffic noise at night, although there isn't that much traffic there.
THE BEACH: The Hukilau Beach in front of the home is lovely with many small islands as part of the view. The water was a bit rough right in front of the rental, although if we walked just a short distance to the left, to the center of the bay, the water was calmer and easier to swim. Only complaint are the few steps down to the beach -- a bit "iffy" as it was mostly sandy and not real supportive.
THE TOWN/AREA: We knew that Laie is the heart of the Mormon church on the island and the Polynesian Cultural center, which the Mormons own and run. However we were afraid that Laie might be too remote with few opportunities to shop for groceries and dine. Fortunately, there are two great grocery stores nearby, plus a Longs Drug store, and many great eating places -- all "cheap and cheerful" types. Laie is VERY small, but very safe, which many areas of the island are not.
DINING: The Hukilau Cafe just a block away has great breakfasts but the lunch was very disappointing. For breakfast we split the "Hungry Hawaiian" which was plenty. And just north about 3 miles is the BEST place we ate during our 15-day Oahu visit -- the Kahuku Grill -- excellent food and good prices. It is right next to the famous shrimp trucks, and the Grill has excellent garlic shrimp too, as well as great coconut shrimp, great burgers, etc. And you can take in your own wine or beer.
If you want to stay in a place that is quiet, relaxing and romantic, this is the spot. If you want nightlife and music, then go to Waikiki!
What a wonderful place to stay! We loved Laie, HI. We were just steps from the beach, which was wonderful. We woke up to the beautiful Hawaiian sunrises every morning. Parking was no issue, as there was plenty of it. The bed was a tad bit uncomfortable, but nothing we couldn't deal with. As with most other rental properties there in Hawaii there was no Air Conditioning which Sue told us about, but with a fan being blown in the room that you were in, the heat wasn't to bad. The humidity on the other hand could not be helped, but we were right on the beach in Hawaii, we lived with it! Sue (the owner) was wonderful and offered many suggestion on where to eat and go so that we could enjoy the most that the island had to offer. If you stay here, you will certainly enjoy it. While you are there, you MUST try the Hukilau Cafe, which you are just steps from and the Kahuka Grill in the little town North of Laie. They offer some of the best Burgers on the island!!! Mahalo, Sue!
We came with my daughter and son in law and grandbaby. Everything was better than we had hoped. The view was awesome. The beach was so much fun. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. It was near the LDS Temple and the Polynesian cultural center The price was great!!! The owners very were hospitable .We would definately recommend to our friends.I hope to bring back my entire family someday. It was a perfect family vacation spot. We made lots of great memories !!! My sweet husband passed away suddenly a few months after returning home and I am so glad that we got this final vacation time together...It was our best Hawaii trip in 35 yrs. Thanks
