Boathouse overlooks Waubeesee Lake, one of the deepest lakes in southeastern Wisconsin. Spend the day playing in the water, sitting on the deck with a drink or swimming out to the raft that is in 20 feet of water. There isn't enough time in the day for the children to explore all there is to do in the lake. Then have a cook out and enjoy lake life in the evening with family and friends.
Our 1st bedroom has a queen bed while the second bedroom has two bunk beds. There is also a fold out sofa in the sunroom.
Keywords: Family gathering space is your peaceful resting place and your home away from home.
Our family has always enjoyed vacationing up in the North Woods of Wisconsin. We wanted to have a peace of the good life closer to home so we bought on Waubeesee Lake.
Jennifer purchased this house in 2006
This a good area to vacation because it is so close to small towns like Waterford and Burlington while it is only a half hour to Milwaukee. We find the neighborhood so quiet and friendly we forget we are close to the city.
It is all about the lake with our family. There are a lot of animals and nature living around the lake. It can be fascinating for the children.
As the sun goes down, we take the pontoon boat around the lake and look at the changes night fall brings. After paddling one of the smaller boats during the day, by night we are usually exhausted and a boat ride or camp fire is a good way to relax.
Comfy bed. Great porch for backgammon tournaments and reading.
My wife and I, along with three (3) granddaughters and our dog thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Boathouse this summer. To begin, this cozy cottage has all the amenities needed for an enjoyable stay, including but not limited to, a comfortable queen size bed, two (2) sets of bunk beds, a large refrigerator, microwave oven, coffee maker, toaster, large washing machine & dryer, television, satellite TV and wifi. Also, a wonderful feature of the house is its inviting interior layout with the kitchen flowing into the living room area which flows into a sunny three (3) season room containing a large dining/game table. But for me, perhaps my favorite spot every day was sitting on the deck atop the boathouse drinking a cup of coffee and simply enjoying the early morning serenity, gazing out at beautiful Waubeesee Lake.
We brought two (2) of our own kayaks and coupled with the kayaks already furnished, we enjoyed casually exploring the lake, including being able to get surprisingly close to the beautiful swans gracefully swimming together.
My daughters family rented the companion bigger house next door (the Swan's Nest) and they brought a boat which they were able to launch at the public landing conveniently located only 1/2 mile away from the rental properties. And speaking of convenience, a large grocery store (the Pick 'n Save) is located a mere 6 miles away.
We and the grandkids had a blast during our stay, swimming, fishing and boating everyday, with the little ones also spending countless hours playing in the large sand box area near the lake. The Boathouse on Waubeesee Lake is truly the "little jewel" of southern Wisconsin. Needless to say, we have made our reservation for next year and are already counting down the days.
From the moment we found this property online we were very excited! We had a “home leave” trip planned back to the USA from Tasmania, Australia, but we didn’t want to spend a month in a hotel. Thanks to the ease of viewing the house availability online and the timely responses from the owner we were able to book our stay in no time. This cozy cottage was just what we were looking for -close to our old neighborhood, close to Milwaukee, close to shopping, close to restaurants, etc… And the best part of all it was on a beautiful, serene lake! It worked out perfectly for us. We had all of the comforts of home along with the perfect, private place to relax after a long day of visiting friends and family. The house had everything we needed for our stay. Every kind of dish, pan, utensil we needed was there. Even the Weber BBQ grill made us feel at home. The kids really enjoyed being able to wake up, walk outside and fish right off the pier! The kayaks and the little rowboat were worth hours of entertainment, as well. One evening, we are pretty sure, we were viewing the re-enactment of a Three Stooges episode involving our son, two of his friends and a boat. It was priceless! And what trip to the lake would be complete without a bonfire and s’mores? The fire pit was perfect. And we can’t forget to mention the lovely screened-in back porch. It’s the perfect place for morning coffee or an evening card game.
A highlight of our stay was seeing the little hummingbird flutter around all of the beautiful flowers each evening as we were preparing dinner or having a drink out on the beautiful deck. We even woke up one morning to see two beautiful swans on the lake.
If we are ever in need of a place to stay in the area again, we will definitely be checking on The Boathouse’s availability! Heck, even when we move back to the area we might just have to rent the Boathouse again…
This was our 2nd stay at The Boathouse. First, it's only 20 minutes south of Hales Corners (Milwaukee), WI and 2hr from Madison. Yet it feels like we're "up north" again even though the drive is 4 hours shorter for us and the rates are very reasonable:) There are places very close by for food, liquor, gas, and places to eat out if you wish. Nice appliances and well stocked kitchen. Furniture is comfortable and bedding is nice. The cottage is very clean, and yes, it is cozy The décor is not posh, but very nice. The pictures accurately reflect the cottage, lake, and yard. The owner is very helpful.
The lake is beautiful, clean, and warm. Excellent beach and swim area. There is a lot to do on the lake with what the owners supply, and a lot of pier with a lovely bench to sit on and plenty room for any boat. Just down the road is a very good boat launch if you bring your own boat.
Love the deck to view the lake, read, grill, play board games, and just sit and relax. The front 3 season porch is fantastic. Some 3 season porches seem good for spring and fall, but not summer. This one is excellent in summer too! You feel like you're outside with wall to wall windows on 3 sides, excellent for warm, sunny, cold, or rainy weather. The game table and davenport makes it even better.
There is clematis and other flower beds everywhere. You feel that you have "gotten away from it all." For us, this is just what a cottage should be.
This is our fourth stay at “The Boat House” and with the weather being as hot and dry as it was we were so glad to be at the cottage.
The cottage is completely turn-key. The kitchen has everything you need including a dishwasher. Cabinets are stocked with utensils, plates and glassware. The living room has comfy furniture, cable TV and an air conditioner that easily cools the whole house. There is a laundry room in the lower level. The owners are very nice. They make you feel welcome and they keep the cottage clean and tidy.
The lot is of good size and groomed very well. Parking is a little bit tight but we managed to squeeze everyone in. There is a good sized sandy beach and fire pit. One negative is that the fire pit, beach and boat house items are shared with the cottage next door. There is a huge deck, perfect for enjoying morning coffee and watching the orioles, swans and hummingbirds.
Waubeesee Lake is fabulous. The water is extremely clear and not too busy with boat traffic. The lake bottom near shore is great for swimming with a sand bottom. We enjoyed fishing, kayaking and swimming from the raft. There is a good sized pier with plenty of room to park our boat. We had full use of the supplied canoe, kayaks, life jackets and swim toys.
I wanted to save the best for last. There is an attached screened in all season room with a lounge area and game table. Every year at the cottage we have the most fun playing games, laughing and just enjoying family and friends in this part of the cottage.
The cottage is located perfectly in Southeast WI. It is less than a 60 minute drive to Milwaukee, Waukesha, and Lake Geneva.
Our time spent at the cottage has been fabulous bringing together the children, grand children and friends and we can’t wait to visit again for the fifth time!

During the high season beginning mid June through mid August I try and secure Saturday through Saturday rentals to accommodate the most families. As we get closer to summer I will start dividing weeks that aren't rented.
