From the beachside palapa to the rooftop sunbathing terrace, Villa Iguana is sure to make a statement! The main house has 4 bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms and there is a 5th bedroom guesthouse with private bath. A garden side terrace and swimming pool with numerous outdoor gathering areas offer both sun and shade.
When you arrive you will enter the garden area which is immaculately kept and leads to a large dining terrace that provides shelter from the sea breeze. Step inside the house to an open plan living and dining area with Travertine marble floors. Next to the dining area, the kitchen features granite countertops and chef quality appliances. Look up to see the wonderful frescos on the ceilings in the living room and stairwell and please enjoy the local ceramic art and paintings found throughout the villa.
Double glass sliding doors lead to the pool and a covered terrace with a Mayan bamboo lounge ensemble featuring overstuffed cushions. There are several conversation areas, so lean back in one of the many chaise lounges and let your vacation begin! A lovely beach palapa provides shade and the ideal place to hang a hammock.
Myself, my wife, three other couples and their children stayed at Villa Iguana in July 2015 to celebrate one member's upcoming birthday. Read the review from "J" from Virginia, USA. I will second all of those remarks as to not repeat information.
Ok, I will repeat a little. Here were the highlights of our stay. Beautiful relaxed environment. The managers, Mayner and Claudia are super helpful and super nice. We chose to have Claudia prepare dinner for five of our seven nights. That was a treat whether is be something simple or the chile rellenos. Everything was wonderful. We had a total of 12 people. Eight adults and four children. We spent plenty of days and evenings just enjoying each others company and it never felt crowded. There was enough room to be alone and enough space to all gather together.
The only major issue was an over abundance of Sargasso (sea grass) that choked the beach and made getting to the water difficult. BUT, this was not an issue exclusive to Villa Iguana. The entire coast line, the entire Caribbean for that matter, was having a particularly difficult time with sea grass this year. So, in the end, it was unfortunate, but hardly the fault of anyone related to Villa Iguana. They did what they could.
Would I recommend the property? Yes. Would I go back to Villa Iguana? Yes. Do I think about lounging in the hammocks on the beach? All the time. Enjoy.
Villa Iguana proved to be the perfect setting for a family vacation with a group of all ages (7 - experienced). The bay is secluded, quiet and stunning. We made great use of the kayaks and made multiple snorkeling trips per day. Turtles, rays and all kinds of fish are easily spotted in the bay. Make sure to check out the really big turtles in nearby Akumal and hit the waves on the beach at Tulum. Mayner and Claudia provided top notch service, be sure to let Claudia cook you one of her excellent dinners. The pool and many great outdoor relaxation spots at Iguana made sure that everyone had something to and plenty of space to relax. The villa itself is spotless and perfectly situated on the beach. Stroll down to the Sahara one night for a great catch of the day meal in a classy setting. Tulum is close by for all your shopping/dining needs. The ruins at Coba and Tulum are a must see as well and also very close. Villa Iguana is the perfect base to do anything or simply nothing at all. 5 out of 5 and we look forward to returning.
Cave diving, swimming and snorkeling. Archeological sites. Great location to visit the Tulum and Coba Ruins.
