About the property

Condo, 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

Rare Gothic Revival Church converted into modern condos. As featured on ABC's Sweet Retreats Annapolis Episode June 2, 2013 and in Annapolis Home Magazine, September 2012. Luxuriously renovated as 4-level residential loft in 2003, this 1897 Gothic Revival church retains much of its original architectural character with unparalleled location. At the corner of Maryland Avenue and Prince George Street, you are only 2 blocks from the Naval Academy (pedestrian gate #3 near the chapel), 1 block from the State House and historic St. John's College, and 3 blocks from City Dock and Main Street with its shops, pubs, restaurants, and more! Maryland Avenue has its own unique character with art, furniture, and antique shops, and restaurants. One of the most unique book stores in Maryland is two doors away.

Marvel at the soaring stained glass windows, exposed brick and your own bell tower. Your view is of the State House, where George Washington addressed his fellow patriots. A private elevator, in addition to the grand staircase, provides access to all 4 levels of this stunning vacation home. Living room with comfortable furnishings, 55' flat panel TV, whole house Bose sound system, CD, DVD, free Wi-Fi. Thoroughly modern kitchen with stainless steel appliances and granite counter tops, espresso machine, coffee maker and all the conveniences of home. Dining room has seating for six. Wet bar with wine refrigerator.

Enjoy your private master suite with king-sized bed on the third level. Fall asleep to the view of the lighted dome of the State House perfectly framed by the stained glass windows and awake to the sun pouring through the colored glass. If you prefer, pull the custom shades for total privacy and darkness. Your travertine marble master bath is a sanctuary with separate shower and whirlpool tub, double vanity, and luxury towels and bath supplies.

Retreat to your private BELL TOWER! Converted to a 'martini bar,' it provides a private get-away with views and the 40' flat panel TV. It is accessible from the master suite floor by a short spiral staircase. Guests love this secret hideout for morning coffee and evening cocktails.

The fourth floor bedroom has a queen-sized bed and en suite bathroom. This floor is a unique space designed to preserve many of the architectural details of the original 1897 church, including masterfully exposed brick, support beams, and three separate stained glass windows. The colored light from the windows reflects beautifully throughout the space at certain times of the day. The separate laundry room has a modern washer and dryer and laundry supplies for your convenience. We have a new twin-sized day bed in the sitting room and another twin pull-out chair and a half is available in the reading nook.

About The Owner

We are a married couple residing in Annapolis. We love Annapolis so much that we bought a vacation home in historic Annapolis!!

The Owner purchased this condo in 2009

Why The Owner chose Annapolis

We were looking for something truly unique and looked all over the country. Then, we found the church property just 4 miles from our main home!

What makes this condo unique

There are three main benefits of our vacation property: architectural character, views, and location! We love the walking life style it provides. All our favorite restaurants are just a short walk away. We strive to anticipate every need for our guests - from umbrellas to shampoo, sunscreen, razors, you name it! We are available to answer any questions!

Better than Advertised!!

We only live about 6 miles away from Annapolis, but we wanted to "get away" for a long weekend to enjoy being tourists in our own beautiful little town. This is a FANTASTIC place to stay in Downtown Annapolis. Conveniently located (very short walking distance to EVERYTHING, yet 1 block removed from the major commercial avenues to provide some peace and quiet), and beautifully maintained.

As locals, we obviously know the area extremely well, so for all of you "out-of-towners" looking for some unbiased local guidance - here it is - STAY HERE!! If I'm not mistaken, this unit contains the only "bell tower" in Annapolis. So cool! The view of the state house is excellent, and the speakers from the main stereo system are wired right up to the quirkiest and most charming little "hang out lounge" you will find in the area.

Vic is a true professional when it comes to maintaining the property. He is responsive (he only lives a few miles away) and very appreciative and considerate of his guests. I rent A LOT through VRBO (and I also provide rentals as a landlord), so when I write a review, I'm compelled to accurately portray properties.

It can certainly be stressful "not knowing" exactly what you are getting yourself into on VRBO. Let me reassure anyone who is reading this that if all you need is a 2BR unit, save yourself some time, stop searching immediately, and pull the trigger on this place!! It has everything you need (completely updated with all of the modern amenities you'd expect), perfectly located, and truly unique. We will be back for sure!! Thanks for being such a wonderful host, Vic. It was a pleasure meeting you!!

Wow ... Perfect for our needs!

  • 5 of 5

Wow! Awesome! Not enough superlatives to describe this impeccably maintained, very unique, home away from home which was perfect for our five person family stay. The church had everything we needed to provide our Naval Academy plebe with a very relaxing Plebe Parents Weekend visit. Close to the Yard, close to Downtown, well equipped with everything we needed to make the most of our to short three night visit. We will definitely be back. Thank you Auletta's!

Owner's Response: I hope you will return soon! We work hard to ensure that every guest feels that we've gone above and beyond to make their visit pleasurable and to provide a very comfortable home base from which to explore Annapolis. In the case of our plebes and other local students, we hope to provide a comfortable home for them to relax in, get some well deserved rest, and enjoy some home cooking! We will look forward to your next visit!

A Beautiful Property With Wonderful Owners

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed in the Gothic Revival Church on our first trip to Annapolis, MD. First of all, the location is prime. You can walk to all the shops, restaurants, the Naval Academy, the State House, the William Paca House and the list goes on. This is a huge plus as parking can be a bear, especially on weekends, so when you find a good spot you want to keep it! When you do venture out Baltimore, Washington DC and Alexandria, VA are all within a 45 minute drive away so road trips were easy.

I have rented many homes and travelled extensively. This property is at the top of the list when it comes to cleanliness, amenities, uniqueness and comfort. The owners were so kind and easy to deal with that I really can't say enough to sing their praises. They truly want you to have a wonderful stay and go out of their way to make that happen. I rarely like to travel to the same place twice but I can honestly say that I hope to be able to stay at this property again soon. Highly recommended!!

Thank you for such a helpful review regarding the location and we are especially appreciative that you felt that we truly wanted you to have a wonderful stay. The church is a passion of ours and there is nothing we enjoy more than hearing our guests tell us they loved it! I'm glad you found it a convenient home base for all your travels!

What a memorable place to spend Christmas in Annapolis!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed this rental immensely! It was a perfect fit for our family of four to stay, but also large enough to host extended family for dinner. The kitchen was small, but well equipped for cooking a large holiday meal. The dining table could easily seat eight. The sectional in the living room was comfortable and roomy.

The master suite was fabulous with the king size bed and large bathroom with both a large shower and a soaking tub. The built-ins in the closet were beautiful! Of course, we loved the wine bar in the bell tower. What a view!

The top level was perfect for our adult daughter to stay in the bedroom and our granddaughter to sleep on the day bed.

The stained glass windows were beautiful and the decor fit the location and history of the church. So many fascinating things to look at! I have never seen such unique toilet flushers! The elevator was great for unloading luggage and Christmas gifts.

We were afraid parking would be a problem but it wasn't at all. It was great to leave the car and walk around Annapolis during the day and evening. There were many wonderful restaurants and shops nearby.

Vic was quite helpful when we encountered a problem with the elevator. He came over immediately and fixed it for us. He was also available by phone, if we needed to contact him. Laura answered all of my planning questions promptly and was very accommodating when we requested an extra night.

We would definitely rent the "church condo" again.

Outstanding 50th Anniversary!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We celebrated my in-laws 50th Anniversary in this special "church" condo. Vic and Laura have thought of everything to make your stay wonderful. I cooked breakfast every morning and found everything I needed. After a day in Annapolis, we enjoyed cocktails in the living room and bell tower. We even watch history....on the flat screen television...the Belmont Stakes and the amazing race of American Pharoah. My father-in-law has bad knees and the elevator was our saving grace. I enjoyed walking to everything....the coffee shop, boutiques, Ego Alley and the great restaurants!! Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful Annapolis condo with us for 3 days. We will be back. We highly recommend this location for couples, girls weekend, and special events.
