Had a great time.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Southern Charm for a full week. We had a great time and all the previous reviews were accurate. It's location is great and close to downtown and the Riverwalk. If you want to have a few drinks, stop in at one of the bars along the Riverwalk and walk home. The parking is great as it is located behind the house and no need to even park on the street.

For the three of us there was so much room to spread out. Two bedrooms upstairs each with a full bathroom. The kitchen and dining area we very comfy and the air conditioning worked super. We saved a lot of $$$ by eating here in the mornings or for lunch. All the eating utensils and dinnerware is there for your use.

There were two things that I feel need to be stated. We are senior citizens. I am 68 and my wife is 65 and she has bad knees that need attention. If I could change one thing it would be elimination of the 13 stair steps leading up to the bedrooms and 8 steps leading up to the front porch. We live in a ranch and everytime we had to go up the bedrooms I thought to myself "Ugh". Just so you know. Secondly, there is a huge apartment building across the street with people who congregate at the bus stop out front in the mornings. Their chitter, chatter is pretty noisy and a bit annoying. These are very minor things and I would still have stayed here if I knew about them but know that they are there.

We are coffee snobs and there was a coffee pot there for brewing your own coffee but instead I found two nice places within 5 minutes drive if you want some great coffee. Luna Coffee on Castle street and the coffee shop uptown. Yum. is very nice here.

Fantastic house in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We visited Wilmington in late August and were delighted with Dave's house. It was in a great location and we enjoyed walking downtown every night to enjoy different restaurants, live music and the beautiful Cape Fear River. Afternoons were spent at different beaches, easily accessible and about 20 minutes away. The house itself was extremely comfortable, quiet, and well-done. It was a big plus that each bedroom had its own bathroom. We also enjoyed the private, off-street parking.

Lovely home on the edge of downtown

  • 4 of 5

This property was overall a lovely stay. There were some items that didn't really show up in the description that would have been good to know in advance but certainly these weren't things that made our stay unpleasant. For instance we wanted to cook several meals in the 5 nights that we were in the property but there is only one cutting knife in the kitchen and it's a filet knife. There's only one pan to cook in and the non-stick surface is wearing off, etc. So it's not a cook's dream but it was good enough to get us through.

The location was a nice walk to the revitalized Wilmington downtown area but it's on the VERY edge of the historic homes. It's not a poor location however it's VERY noisy with buses, cars from the freeway, etc. You can also hear cars crossing the main highway bridge all night. Every night. It's pretty non-stop. We still spent time sitting outside on the front porch but conversation was hindered by the road noise.

We enjoyed the character of the place. Very cute setting and a lovely overall spot for visitors to downtown. We actually weathered a hurricane one night and the place was warm and cozy in the storm. The A/C also worked very well during the hot summer days that preceded; the parking was also very convenient. And the laundry machines are wonderful and work really well as does the iron (a necessity as we were attending a wedding).

One final note on the bedding: we had to do some shuffling with pillows. They are either totally limp or super foamy so make sure you check what you want before you hit the sack. :) We were all a little achy from the beds - they need some TLC.
