About the property

Pine Forest Retreat

The Pine Forest Retreat is centrally located in the heart of beautiful Bend, Oregon. One block from the Pilot Butte hiking trail, 3 miles from the Old Mill District and downtown Bend, this home is 25 minutes from Mt. Bachelor and the high lakes. Vacationers can find many activities in Bend including hiking, biking, skiing, rafting, kayaking, fly fishing and shopping. Downtown Bend and the Old Mill District have a variety of antique stores, restaurants, and retail shopping. There is nothing more enjoyable than a stroll around the Mirror Pond at any time of the day! Visit historic Pine Tavern for lunch or dinner and enjoy the outdoor patio dining in the summer.

The home is beautifully but practically decorated in a cabin-like décor. This non-smoking home is designed to handle large families or groups of friends and is kid-friendly. It is located on ½ acre where local deer and squirrels are common sights. The large, fenced, private backyard features a patio and gas barbecue. Dine out on the patio and enjoy the quiet of the Larkspur neighborhood.

The master bedroom has a king bed, armoire with a flat screen TV; the hunting bedroom features a queen bed; the bear bedroom has a queen bed, with a crib for families with an infant or toddler. The pine tree bedroom features two trundle beds to accommodate four people--we recently added a TV and DVD for kids to have a separate area adjacent to the dining room. The living room has comfortable seating for all, a 42” flat screen TV, and a gas fireplace surrounded by local lava rock. The dining table can seat up to 10 people. Wi-Fi is provided free of charge for vacationers who need Internet access. Each bathroom has a blow dryer.

Very cozy get-away

  • 5 of 5

We had an incredible stay in Bend Oregon. This cozy house was very close to downtown and provided a great space for our family. I highly recommend this house for young children. There was a closet of toys, a high chair and a crib. Any parent would agree that these are wonderful amenities and simply essential for travel. I’m hoping to enjoy the house again during the summer months, the outdoor space looked great as well. The house was very clean and tidy and made us feel at home. Thanks to Donna and Clark for offering such a sweet space for our family.

Wonderful place to stay with kids!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at this cozy place in Bend. There was plenty of room for 4 adults and 6 kids and lots for all of us to do. Would love to stay here again!

Quiet but out of the way

  • 4 of 5

We came as two families to ski Mount Bachelor. The place was really easy to find. It is quiet and out of the way to downtown but still near the major highways to get where you want to go. It takes about 38-43 mins to the Mountain depending on traffic.

Regarding the place. It’s slightly tight for 8 people. 4 adults and 4 kids. In winter time you might have slight cabin fever. The kids room is right off of the garage so might be a slight issue with heat and security. Kitchen and bathrooms also slightly small in this older home. The owner has all the amenities in place so this offset the size of it.

The bedroom setting is like this. King in master bedroom. Two queen bedrooms and the kids room has two twins plus trundles under the beds.

We would definitely use this again but maybe for the visit in Summer. Slightly too far for skiing.

Owner's Response: Hello Thu, Thanks for submitting a review. Feedback is always welcome. I wanted to address your concern with heat and security in the “kid” room that is behind the dining area. Each of our rooms is heated via electric baseboard and every room has its own thermostat. This allows each room to be heated according to individual preference so I don’t think heat in the “kid room” is an issue for guests. In 7 ½ years no one has expressed concern over security, the room is part of the main house as you saw and has a bedroom door like all the others. The living room has comfortable seating for 10 people – leather sectional seats 6; leather couch seats 3; recliner seats 1. We host many groups of 8-10 adults and they have found it to be roomy in winter or summer. The dining table is very large and seats 10 comfortably. When any home has only 2 bathrooms, no matter the bathroom size, 8-10 people are going to have to coordinate. The mirrors in queen bedrooms and kid room allow people to do hair and makeup without being in the bathroom and it has served our own family of 8-10 well by utilizing those mirrors. We hope you are able to come to Bend in the summer and enjoy the ½ acre setting with our large backyard. Best to you, Clark and Donna Bergmen

Lovely home in a beautiful place!

  • 5 of 5

We took our 3 kids to Bend for a much-needed getaway from busy city life in San Francisco. The house was perfect for our needs and everything was very comfortable. They loved playing in the well-kept yard and we even saw deer in the front yard on multiple occasions. The gas fireplace made the whole place really cozy and kept us warm in the fall temperatures. We loved exploring downtown Bend and the Deschutes River, which was a quick drive from the house, as well as the Lava Butte and Tumalo Falls, a little further away. We were all sad to leave and definitely plan to return to this lovely home and keep on exploring the Bend area!

About Donna Bergmen

Clark and I enjoy sharing our home with visitors to Bend. We strive to keep it comfortable and affordable!

Donna Bergmen purchased this house in 2010

Why Donna Bergmen chose Larkspur

This home is 3/4 a mile from the home we owned from 1979-83 when we had to leave our beloved Bend for California's Central Valley. For 25 years we have stayed with friends and now we can stay in our own home and share the beauty of Bend with others.

What makes this house unique

We enjoy getting coffee at the Looney Bean downtown and walking around the Mirror Pond and Downtown Bend neighborhoods. In addition, the skiing at Mt Bachelor is great! My husband is an avid golfer, hunter, and fisherman and Bend has all of that to offer.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This home became a meeting place to share a Christmas together and enjoy our first family snowboarding adventure. This was the first white Christmas for me and our first Christmas with all our kids in 5 years. We brought our 2 labs and they loved the yard filled with snow. Thank you for this rental. It gave us memories that will last forever.
