About Valerie Sofo
Greetings to all our prospective guests! My wife, Valerie and I are pictured here in Mykonos, where we celebrated our 30th anniversary (2009). We have 4 adult children and reside in Old Bridge, NJ.
Valerie Sofo purchased this House in 2008
Why Valerie Sofo chose Bearsville
Woodstock is magical. As the icon Steven Stills' song goes, "There's something happening here; what it is ain't exactly clear." Seriously, there IS something in the air—an extraordinarily positive karma, a pervasive sense of peace, harmony, balance...a true restorative respite from the hustle and bustle of 21st century life!
What makes this House unique
There are so many lovely and unique homes in Woodstock, as well as inns, lodges, B&B's, etc. What we feel sets our home apart is that it offers its own truly unique 'getaway-from-it all' experience, unlike any other to be found in the area; a style/décor that is a distinct departure from what we typically see, day-in/day-out in our everyday lives. When you arrive at our home, the vision seems precisely as you would expect to find at a rustic mountain lodge of your dreams. It is a celebration of nature—the magnificent wildlife that inhabit it, the natural (sustainable) materials it provides, and last but not least the extraordinary artists and craftspeople who continue to this day to maintain the time-honored traditions of creating extraordinary hand-crafted, rustic furniture and furnishings out of nature's bounty; materials gathered from nature—branches, twigs, bark, stone, etc., left in their most natural, least adulterated state—in the style of the Adirondack “Great Camps.” Throughout the house, you will find many examples of their work—beds made from logs, tables made from branches, twigs, bark, chairs/stools made from hickory limbs, twig & bark framed mirrors, etc., as well as numerous touches of whimsy, e.g., genuine antler door knobs, pulls, handles, antler chandeliers/light fixtures, and all sorts of items celebrating the glorious creatures of the American wild, e.g., lighting fixtures with images of moose, elk, deer, bear, wolves, elk antler rack above the fireplace, animal-themed coat hooks, dinnerware, etc. In short, we've strived to recreate the type of rustic, cozy mountain lodge we’d love to escape to when to mood strikes. Perhaps you too have dreamed of how nice it would be to have a little log cabin getaway place somewhere? If so, we’d love to have you make our not so little getaway cabin YOUR home away from home! *All antlers/antler products used in our home were naturally shed. What appears as leather or animal skins/fur is faux. No animals harmed!

Beautiful home set on a picturesque large piece of property set on a hillside!
The home was wonderful. Val and Rick made sure everything was ready to go upon our arrival. We enjoyed our stay and look forward to one day coming back to see the landscapes and use the local hiking paths and trails in the summer / fall months!
Just stayed a few days with my wife and stepchildren. The home is grand in every sense of the word from the minute you pull up the long driveway. Awesome open floor plan with incredible furniture accents. The walk in rain shower in the master bath was as nice as ive seen in the best of homes and hotels!! The great room with large natural stone fireplace and glass doors and windows on the entire front of the room provided a great place for relaxation as well as family game playing.
My wife LOVES to cook and the modern kitchen with commercial 6 burner stove put her in heaven! Can’t wait to return!
We rented this beautiful home for “Friendsgiving”. This house was so nice, we didn’t want to leave. The night before we headed up to the house, we had that crazy out of nowhere snow storm. A few of people canceled because they were afraid they wldnt be able to make it up to the house, I was hesitant too. When I spoke with Valerie she replied, let check on that and get back to you. With the quickness she check the roads, and even shovel the road that leads up to the house and called me back. She told me it’s good, the roads are fine you can even let your friends know the drive will be fine. I’m so happy, so happy we did not cancel and continued as planned. When we stepped into this beautiful home.... turned on the lights a few of us just let out a “wooooow”. The house was so clean and perfect, it looked like it just finish taking a photo shoot for Home magazine!
And!! Valerie told us early in the day that the ice machine was not working and that there are many stores close by we can purchase ice if we need to. Well... we open the freezer and what do we see bags of ice! The Hostess with the Mostess!
Thank You Valerie!
Our Friendsgiving 2018 was definitely a memorable one!
Stunning country retreat
We had a wonderful weekend in this beautiful home near Woodstock. We were celebrating my husband's birthday along with our kids and grandkids. Everyone loved the house with it's spacious rooms and rustic décor. Between the large windows and all the furniture designed out of timber, we felt like the outside came in to us. My son, who is a chef, loved cooking in the state of the art kitchen with 6 burner stove. The grandkids had plenty of room to run around and loved the bunk beds also designed out of timber/logs, We built a roaring fire in the huge stone fireplace and took family pictures in front of it. It was a quick ride to downtown Woodstock for shopping and eating lunch. The only issue we had was that we could not get the Sonos music system to work which was very disappointing. We called the owner about this but there was a password issue that could not be resolved. We are a family that loves music and dancing and everyone had left their Bluetooth speakers at home with expectations of using this system..
Amazing place to unwind and unplug
This amazing cabin is certainly much more impressive in person than is shown online. Nothing has been overlooked – the attention to detail is evident, right down to the cabin-themed fixtures. The owner was helpful and responsive. There were even binders with information re events / dining nearby, and instructions for the cabin itself. The only real issue we had was cell phone connectivity (is spotty), which is to be expected when in the mountains.
Beautiful, spacious, clean home. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the owner was very accommodating.
