Nestled in a rustic valley in Northern San Diego County, Rancho Magdalena offers a serene country escape with all the comforts of a luxury resort. The sprawling 48-acre estate owned and operated by the Swick family offers the perfect venue for calm relaxation or family fun.
Rolling hills and pastoral farmland provide a picturesque backdrop for the 12,000 plus square-foot, seven bedroom residence (Master under a separate fee). With an additional 10 bedrooms available nearby, the ranch can comfortably accommodate 50 guests or more overnight.
The ranch provides boundless opportunities for recreation: from its salt water pool/spa/sauna/water slide, to its tennis, sand volleyball, bocce ball, trampoline, horseshoe pits, tetherball, shuffleboard and racquetball courts, to its grand indoor theater. We have meeting/social rooms for adults and those young at heart: including a pool table, table tennis, indoor shuffleboard, and more. Our ranch offers a charming, peaceful atmosphere for your next event or getaway. Rancho Magdalena captured our hearts, and we are confident that you will love it here, too.

We recently had our first ever family reunion. There was a total of 32 of us (17 adults, 4 teenagers, 11 kids age 1-9). Utilizing the two guests houses, everyone had a room (the kids loved the bunk beds). We stayed for 4 nights and ate most of our meals in the estate (we hit the Costco in Temecula on the way down from L.A.). The kitchen in the main house is perfect for large groups with plenty of seating and tables outside.
There is so much to do here (pools, trampoline, movie theater, etc.) that our biggest problem was when we planned events away from the house (San Diego Zoo Safari and the Midway Aircraft Museum), nobody wanted to leave.
I highly recommend paying a little extra to have some of the ladies come and do some housekeeping and prep in the kitchen during your time there. We bought carne asada at Lilac Foods and they helped prepare an incredible taco dinner for a fraction of the cost of going out. The homemade salsas were amazing.
The stadium seating in the huge theater is perfect for getting the whole group together. And the game room is just ridiculous. Probably stayed up too late every night because there was so much to do.
I highly recommend this enormous palatial estate. Friendly people. Extremely clean. We couldn't have asked more for our first family reunion. If I can convince everyone in my family to fly in from all over the country again, we'll definitely be back.
We recently held a family reunion at Rancho Magdalena that included 23 family members of which half were children ranging in age from 8 years old to 17 years old. The main house is beautiful - we marveled at the architectural details, both inside and out. And we appreciated the lovely interior decorations, amenities for entertainment, and convenient kitchen facilities where the family gathered for their meals.
We rented some of the bedrooms in the guest houses, also, and found that living space to be comfortable and lovely, decorated with a more modern flair.
The outlying area is beautiful. We enjoyed taking hikes around the property and seeing the growing oranges and avocados. And everyone loved the pool and dining on the patio in the evenings.
There was plenty of things to do to keep the children occupied. They really enjoyed the trampoline outside and the games available in the game room indoors. They especially enjoyed the theater with the large comfortable chairs. This probably was their favorite spot for gathering and having fun.
We appreciate the ease in booking this venue and obtaining information from the owner, Thom, who was generous in his willingness to help in all aspects of renting the house. And manager, Maria, was very personable and capable in everything she did. She was totally available to us and explained things in detail so that we did not have any problems knowing how to operate within the premises. She's a real jewel and made the stay that much more comfortable for us.
In summary, everyone enjoyed their stay at Rancho Magdalena and it's a place that we would recommend to anyone looking for a venue such as this. We, too, would love to visit, again.
We have stayed at Rancho Magdalena for our annual retreat for the past few summers and have thoroughly enjoyed it. The main house and guest houses are spacious and comfortable and the amenities are terrific. The large kitchen makes it easy to prepare and enjoy your own food. The landscaping and fruit trees are beautiful, offering a serene, relaxing atmosphere.
I have a large family with a number of grandchildren. It is hard for us to find a house large enough to accommodate all of us. We stayed in this beautiful spacious home for a week and loved every minute of it. The kids loved the movie theater, the swimming pool, and the tennis court. The adults loved the patio with tables to set up and enjoy meals outside, the views, and the fact that the house is large enough that we didn't feel like the children were on top of us at all times. Perfect place for large gatherings. Maria was kind and very helpful with any need. We loved it!
Spent 2 nights here with a group of 25 friends...we had a blast. Plenty of activities, the house was very well stocked for cooking/playing/etc, and Maria was very helpful in making sure we had everything we needed. Would definitely recommend this...and will be back!
Five different Norwegian families in age range from 12 and up spent one glorious week at Rancho Magdalena. We self cater on our one week get together, and facilities for this was outstanding. The grounds and the main house offers so much to do our kids had trouble choosing. Prior to finalizing rental agreement we had many questions, each and everyone answered precise. The kids were put up in the guest houses, while the adults used the mainhouse as their quarters. This worked very well for our group.
We have been vacationing together for many years in Europe - always a blast. Coming to Rancho Magdalena certainly was a very good addition to our vacation memories, even though we probably will be staying in Europe the next years given the long trip from Norway. Thank you for a most memorable place and stay!
