Space 1,450 sq ft
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

The Tijeras Tree House is a scenic mountain cabin nestled in magnificent pinyon trees in the Manzano Mountains near Albuquerque. At an altitude of 7500 ft, the temperatures are mild in the summer, fall and spring and provide a great escape from the heat. Mountain biking and hiking trails are accessible in the encompassing Cibola National Forest. During the winter season, snowshoeing and cross country skiing are possible in nearby trails and downhill skiing is available in the Sandia Ski Area located about 20 miles north of the cabin.

The village of Tijeras is a friendly New Mexican community located approximately eight miles north of the cabin, and from there 8 miles west to Albuquerque or 50 miles north to Santa Fe. In Albuquerque, there are excellent restaurants, shopping, theatres, museums, and the International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta that brightens the clear blue skies in early October. Thirty minutes to the south are a spectacular series of Indian and mission ruins that form the Salinas Pueblo National Monument.

This tree house retreat provides a serene location to relax and enjoy the beautiful mountains and cool fresh air. The home includes 3 bedrooms and two bathrooms, with a mountain view from the balcony off the upstairs master bedroom. The main level is surrounded by decks great for dining and peaceful relaxation. The one-acre property is fenced and your dog is welcome. The property is suitable for all ages, and is great for a romantic get-away.

About John Beck

We bought our mountain home in 2007, but with work and travel have not been able to enjoy it as much as we would like. We hope that others will enjoy our getaway and its beautiful setting as much as we do. After living in Albuquerque and recreating in New Mexico for 30 years, it was great to find a home that was already surrounded by all this natural beauty.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for sharing your beautiful cabin with us. We had a fabulous Thanksgiving which will be a treasured family memory. The drive up to Sandia Peak is well worth it and we didn’t have nearly enough time to explore the trails nearby. I already have a list of thing we need to come back to do! It snowed on Thanksgiving morning (a novelty to us Texans) and the kids had a great time playing in it. We had everything we needed and were very comfortable. Thanks again!

Great Balloon Fiesta Trip

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed another week stay at the "Treehouse". This was the fourth trip for my wife and I. This time we were able to share the experience with two other couples that have been longtime friends. We decided to attend the Balloon Fiesta as a bucket list check off. This was our first time to see the balloons and being able to use the treehouse as our home base was the perfect retreat from all the crowds. We also went to Old Town, Madrid, Santa Fe, Sandia Peak, Tinker Town, Route 66, and Spent a little time at the casino with one couple actually winning a little money. All of these activities were easy drives from the treehouse home base, yet allowed us to retreat back to the mountain life for relaxing evening and beautiful crisp mornings. This cabin has been our "go to" place in New Mexico for several years now.

Cedro area Mountain Tree House

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed this picturesque lodging choice nestled in a quiet neighborhood within the Manzano mountains, yet still close to Albuquerque. The owner handled all communications in a proficient and friendly manner with ample information, so an easy booking process with great follow through. The damage deposit was quickly credited after our stay. The accommodations were very comfortable and everything functioned well in the home. The kitchen was well stocked, so no need to bring back up utensils etc. and access to a (HE soap) washer & dryer was a bonus. There are grocery stores and restaurants in the area, so no need to chase down to Albuquerque for those options. I particularly appreciated the 2nd floor master bedroom deck for its mountain views and birds flying by at eye level, as I relaxed with coffee and a book. The home is situated high enough in the mountains to watch the transitional variances of mountain weather as nearby storms move through while you sit unaffected on the deck. Overall, it's a wonderful VRBO offering!

Perfectly describes the cabin

  • 5 of 5

The first thing I noticed stepping out of the car upon arrival was that wonderful smell of mountain pines. This cabin is the perfect peaceful mountain getaway. The cabin is well laid out and very comfortable with several decks to choose from. The totally fenced one acre is great for the dog and kids. The setting makes you feel you are in a remote mountain retreat, yet actually civilization is only a few miles away. It is the best of both worlds. As we were there at the peek of a heat wave in the middle of the summer, the weather in the mountains was great especially early and late in the day. Sandia peak is only a few miles away and offers even cooler summer days and spectacular views and trails. If you want the mountain life this is the place.
