Only 30 miles to Bar Harbor & Acadia National Park.

Acadia National Park: In 1913, President Woodrow Wilson set aside 6000 acres (within what is now Acadia National Park) as Sieur de Monts National Monument. With the acquisition of more land and private support and funding, in 1919 President Wilson signed an act establishing Lafayette National Park. In 1929 the parks name was changed to Acadia.

Acadia National Park was established to protect the area's spectacular scenic values, Maine's rock bound coast, its coastal and its offshore islands as characterized by the geologic features, natural history and the native plant and animal life. Forty five miles of rustic carriage roads weave around the mountains and through the valleys of Acadia National Park, the gift of philanthropist John D Rockefeller, Jr., and family. Rockefeller, a skilled horseman, desired to travel on motor free byways via horse and carriage into the heart of Mount Desert Island. His efforts resulted in roads with sweeping vistas and close up views of the landscape.

Cadillac Mountain: At 1,530 feet, Cadillac Mountain is not only the tallest mountain in Acadia National Park, but also the tallest mountain along the eastern coast of the United States. Rising high above the town of Bar Harbor, Cadillac Mountain offers magnificent views of the Porcupine Islands and Frenchman Bay. Explore the summit of this granite mountain along a .3-mile trail, which includes wayside exhibits about natural and human history. Portions of this trail are accessible to wheelchair users.

About Steve & Michelle Cowan

The Cowan family is originally from Maine, now living on the west coast.

Steve & Michelle Cowan purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Steve & Michelle Cowan chose Maine

We are originally from Maine and purchased the cottage in 2005 to ensure our children have the opportunity to experience summers in Maine the way we did as kids. Beech Hill Pond is a very special place as it is close to Acadia National Park & Bar Harbor, but provides a peaceful retreat after a day of hiking and sightseeing. The lake is great for kayaking and canoeing, or just watching the Loons.

What makes this cottage unique

We also own Loons Nest Cottage next-door, Homeaway #3684326, which can be rented together for larger families.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a wonderful time at your cottage. Everything we needed for a nice vacation.

Some rain here and there but the children did arts and crafts, etc. The location was great; easy access to town and Bar Harbor. We loved the wildlife...ducks of all ages, families of loons, even saw eagles and some of us saw a moose and her calf. Thank you.

Great house on an awesome pond!

  • 5 of 5

More of a lake (in my view) than a pond, we had a great time at Sandy Cove. The house was perfect for our extended family and the lake was amazingly clear and clean. Had so much fun swimming, kayaking and visiting Acadia!

Our whole family enjoyed this property. Spacious, clean, and a incredible view /location.

  • 5 of 5

The information provided from the owners is accurate. I did leave a note behind in reference to a few minor things that should be addressed.

Hiking, golfing, canoeing and kayaking ✔️

We enjoyed a nature cruise in Bar Harbor, and saw a production at the Bangor Opera House.

We accomplished a lot in a week that was forecasted to be rain everyday. Turned out to be a beautiful week, thank goodness:)

We made some wonderful memories, and hope to return and rent both cabins, since our family is growing:)

Best memory from this vacation...we're going to have a grandson in December 💙?

A Great Getaway

  • 4 of 5

The house was fantastic. Beautiful property right on the water that comes with some kayaks and a canoe to take out on the lake. The shed is also stocked with water sport gear to enjoy. Very clean inside and a nice open living room space with high ceilings make it feel comfortable and larger than it actually is. My only complaint is the drive into the property is about 4-5 miles on an all dirt/rocky road which is bumpy and gets annoying after a while if your traveling out a lot. Also make sure to stock up on what you need since the nearest market is about 20-30 minutes away. The people in the area very friendly and there are great sights in the surrounding area. I highly recommend making a trip down to Bar Harbor to enjoy the towns shops and wonderful restaurants as well as Acadia National Park. Absolutely beautiful hiking trails by the water and up the mountains, a must do!

Beautifully maintained cottage on a beautiful lake

  • 5 of 5

This is our third time staying at this property and we always look forward to coming back. Meticulously maintained, clean, well appointed and in a gorgeous location. Privacy, beautiful sunrises, great fishing and plentiful loon sightings make for a much needed week of recharging and relaxing. If I had my way we'd block a month here every summer.

It was very relaxing.

  • 4 of 5

Unfortunately we hit a lot of rainy days, but when it was sunny it was great. There was plenty of room and certainly the basic comforts of home. The lake was beautiful.
