Only 30 miles to Bar Harbor & Acadia National Park.
Acadia National Park: In 1913, President Woodrow Wilson set aside 6000 acres (within what is now Acadia National Park) as Sieur de Monts National Monument. With the acquisition of more land and private support and funding, in 1919 President Wilson signed an act establishing Lafayette National Park. In 1929 the parks name was changed to Acadia.
Acadia National Park was established to protect the area's spectacular scenic values, Maine's rock bound coast, its coastal and its offshore islands as characterized by the geologic features, natural history and the native plant and animal life. Forty five miles of rustic carriage roads weave around the mountains and through the valleys of Acadia National Park, the gift of philanthropist John D Rockefeller, Jr., and family. Rockefeller, a skilled horseman, desired to travel on motor free byways via horse and carriage into the heart of Mount Desert Island. His efforts resulted in roads with sweeping vistas and close up views of the landscape.
Cadillac Mountain: At 1,530 feet, Cadillac Mountain is not only the tallest mountain in Acadia National Park, but also the tallest mountain along the eastern coast of the United States. Rising high above the town of Bar Harbor, Cadillac Mountain offers magnificent views of the Porcupine Islands and Frenchman Bay. Explore the summit of this granite mountain along a .3-mile trail, which includes wayside exhibits about natural and human history. Portions of this trail are accessible to wheelchair users.

About Steve & Michelle Cowan
The Cowan family is originally from Maine, now living on the west coast.
Steve & Michelle Cowan purchased this Cottage in 2005
Why Steve & Michelle Cowan chose Otis
We are originally from Maine and purchased the cottage in 2005 to ensure our children have the opportunity to experience summers in Maine the way we did as kids. Beech Hill Pond is a very special place as it is close to Acadia National Park & Bar Harbor, but provides a peaceful retreat after a day of hiking and sightseeing. The lake is great for kayaking and canoeing, or just watching the Loons.
What makes this Cottage unique
We also own Loons Nest Cottage next-door, Homeaway #3684326, which can be rented together for larger families.

Charming! The cottage has the most beautiful view of the pond.
Our family stayed at the cottage for a reunion and we all enjoyed our stay! The cottage is charming and cozy and has everything you need. The pond which could be a lake was just beautiful we enjoyed having the ducks come visit us twice a day for breakfast and dinner. We would definitely stay at the cottage again! Thank you so much for an amazing vacation/reunion On Beech hill pond.
Sweet Vacation Home
We loved the fact that the home was well away from main road traffic. It was quiet and serene sitting outside at the fire pit at night. You could see the stars very well as there was not a lot of intrusive light. The house was wonderful and accommodated our dogs too with a fenced in back yard. The house was attractive and well appointed. We had many family members come to visit and stay over. It is so much better than staying at a hotel. We are ready to book for next year. Thanks to the Cowans for making a lovely home available.
Another great family vacation!
This review is long overdue as I am not the type of person to usually write one. I was lucky enough to discover this wonderful cottage and have been going with my family and kids here for the past three years while visiting family who lives in Maine. The cottage itself is beautiful, very well laid out, the first floor is open with a breathtaking view of the lake, the 5 bedrooms are more than adequate to sleep a number of people, and the small beach is perfect for kids looking to feed the ducks, go canoeing, etc. This cottage has truly become a home away from home for my children and I. It offers almost anything you would need so you do not have to pack much! The memories we have had here are truly cherished! I want to truly thank the Cowan family for their wonderful hospitality. This home is very well maintained and offers a picture perfect setting to escape the hustle of everyday life. I would highly recommend this home to anyone.
Great house in a beautiful location!
We have been renting a house each summer for the last 5 years with our two kids, my sister and her four kids and our dogs and our parents. This house was one of the best we have rented! It was very comfortable and clean. All the bedrooms were upstairs which made it easier with small kids. The kitchen was a good size and the whole downstairs was open and large enough for us all to spread out. Plenty of seating inside and out. The washer and dryer was a great bonus and the window fans kept the rooms cool at night. Walk out right to the beach. It was not really sandy but it still worked great for little ones to swim and dig. Swimming was shallow which was great but there was also a swim platform for the bigger ones to swim to and jump off. The road was quiet and we took many runs and walks. Took a day trip to Acadia and also did some shopping in Ellsworth but spent most of our time enjoying the sun at the house and kayaking. Very fun times had by all!
Fantastic Family Vacation!!
We had a fantastic week on the lake. The house was perfect for 4 kids and 5 adults. The 2 comfortable living rooms were perfect for reading and playing games. We were all able to have dinner together around the dining room table. The kitchen had everything we needed and the ice machine was a nice touch. The lake is very clear/clean and the kids had a blast jumping off the raft. We took the kayaks and canoe to the "Junk of Pork" rock almost daily. We made some great memories and look forward to coming back next summer!
Sandy Cove - Beech Hill Pond
Another beautiful week in Maine. This house is perfect for our growing family. Right on the shores of beautiful, clear Beech Hill Pond. It's Just like the pictures. If I flip through the pictures, I feel like I'm there again. A wonderful family vacation spot.
Beech Hill Pond is a beautiful, four and a half-mile long, spring-fed lake located in Downeast Maine near Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. It makes a relaxing vacation spot for anyone wanting to explore the Downeast Maine area, without the crowds of Acadia National Park. The setting for Beech Hill Pond couldn’t be prettier – the crystal clear water is surrounded by peaceful mountains, with a nice, flat, sandy area at the water’s edge that is perfect for sunning or playing in the sand. Just a few of the activities available at Beech Hill Pond are swimming, fishing, boating, hiking, bicycling, wildlife viewing or just relaxing and enjoying the views. For sightseers, a forty-five minute drive takes you to Mount Desert Island, home to Acadia National Park, which is the oldest national park on the East Coast. Ellsworth is only a few minutes away and also has shopping and restaurants, including fresh clam chowder and lobsters right off the boat. Other Activities: Hiking, boat rentals, canoeing, kayaking, 4 wheeling and hunting nearby
