Susan and I live in New York City but it has always been my dream to own a beach house. While on vacation in the Bahamas I went for a run one afternoon and ended up falling in love with this little house on the beach. I knew I had to move forward and purchase this beautiful home. The house was literally pulling me in. Susan and I hired over a dozen men to work on the property. By Christmas time last year, it was a brand new place and our beach house dream had come true.
Janet Wilkinson purchased this house in 2009
We love that while the beach house directly on the beach provides all the privacy you need, you also have access to all of the land and water activities and amenities that Treasure Cay has to offer. Cook at home or explore the restaurants and nightlife of Treasure Cay. From coffee, muffins, cakes and other baked goods at Florence's cafe to outstanding Bahamian and American cuisine served in the elegant dining room of Spinnakers. End your day with a memorable evening of drinks, conversation and music at the Tipsy Seagull with the breezes and stars of the Bahamian night.
Everything in Treasure Cay is within walking distance of the house, but other transportation is available. Golf carts, bicycles, scooters, boats and cars are available for rental. There are so many island activities that we love including snorkeling walking on the beach with our pups. It's also fun to take a ferry and visit neighboring islands like Guana Cay (home of Nipper's), Green Turtle Cay (have a Goombay Smash at Miss Emily's), Elbow Cay (visit the Light House at Hope Town), Man-o-War and others.
We spent Thanksgiving week at Susies Rock on Treasure Cay. Our stay was wonderful and very relaxing. It is the perfect place to be spend quality time with family. The house has been completely renovated and the water views are fantastic from every room. The beach is powder white sand, crystal clear water and very private. The outdoor space is just as pleasing (dining space, grilling space, lounging space and a separate additional deck to the side of the house which is perfect for evening drinks). The house has every amenity including a 60 inch TV (maybe larger?) which was great for catching up on movies. We spent a day or two on Treasure Cay beach, took a day trip to Green turtle cay, and the rest of the time at ‘home’. The convenience store on TC is well stocked. We also had a wonderful lady called Evelyn come by and drop off Bahamian dishes such as lobster & conch salad, conch chowder, apple pies, Bahamian bread etc…She is a wonderful cook and the arrangement worked out great for us. We ate at Spinnakers a couple nights. Coco beach bar is good for lunch. We also discovered Florence café in town for espresso and great desserts. We ordered Thanksgiving dinner (Lobster, mac & cheese and rice & peas) from Florence and it was simply delicious. The caretaker Shonie was very attentive as well. She checked up on us a couple time during our stay and even arranged for a taxi rental to get us to the airport last minute when our pre-arranged taxi guy ended up not showing up. It was a fabulous vacation and a fabulous house. If you are looking to de-stress on a wonderful beach you will not be disappointed.
Sometimes you find a super-special place and wonder, if you return, whether the magic will still be there. On our second extended stay at Suzie’s Rock, it was not only everything we remembered…it was even better the second time around. It felt like coming home.
This house has it all; a great location literally on the beach, lots of windows to take in the ocean views from every room, caring owners who keep it very well maintained, lovely décor, and it is situated in a safe upscale neighborhood perfect for walking, even alone. The house is beautiful, bright, shiny-clean and has everything you might need; comfy beds, nice linens, lots of towels, water cooler, gas grill and a kitchen well outfitted with pots, pans and gadgets. We enjoyed the addition of new patio furniture this year and a 2 person kayak. One of the highlights for us in staying at Treasure Cay is the weekly visits of Evelyn who arrives with homemade bread, conch chowder and other Bahamian delights to buy… but we especially enjoy her pies!
In my review last year I called Suzie’s Rock “The Perfect Beach House” and it truly is. Janet and Susan, the owners, love their house and it shows. Thank you for sharing this special place with the rest of us. We can hardly wait to return.
The Perfect Beach House
Suzie’s Rock is the “Perfect” Beach House. There are so many windows and glass doors that the beautiful turquoise blue ocean is part of your sight line at all times. You are literally on the beach; just step off the deck into sand the colour and texture of powdered sugar. We were lulled to sleep each night by the sound of waves and rustling palm trees outside the window and woke to the rising sun, as the house faces south east. The house is bright, clean and tastefully decorated. Lots of screened windows and high ceilings with fans kept the house so comfortable that we almost never tuned on the air conditioning. The kitchen, though small, has high end appliances, great pots and pans and every conceivable gadget that I ever looked for was there. The bedrooms have very comfortable beds and nice linens. Bathrooms are super clean, great water pressure in the showers, inside and outside too, and more towels than you will need…also lots of beach towels. We did a lot of cooking at home as we were here for eight weeks and my husband loved the Weber gas BBQ on the deck; garbage pickup 2-3 times per week was nice as there is no recycling in the Bahamas.
The pictures of the beach on the website do not do it justice…it is a great beach and perfect for swimming and just the right length to walk...about a mile each way with lots of lovely shells. The crescent Treasure Cay Beach [3.5 miles long] is just around the corner and a 5 minute walk away . The house & deck offer a lot of privacy and is in a quiet residential neighbourhood with lots of interesting side roads to bike or walk. We bought a package at the golf course and enjoyed the course; it is challenging.
The owners and the property manager could not have been more helpful; Thank You. As you can probably tell by now, we LOVED our stay at Suzie’s Rock and have already booked a return trip for next year .
Amazing place, cannot recommend it highly enough. Great experience with the owners and their support staff as well. Hope to oh back some day!
My husband and I stayed at Suzies Rock for 4 wonderful nites. The house and location are better than the pictures. The house is beautiful and well stocked. The owner Janet was great and the caretaker Shoine was available for any needs we had. Very relaxing time and look forward to returning.
My husband and I chose Suzie's Rock for our vacation to celebrate my birthday. We're so glad we did! Wonderful location with the ocean literally out the back door. The home was clean and comfortable and very easy to relax in. We enjoyed having our chairs at the waters edge and just taking it all in. Any questions we had were readily answered and resolved, leaving us without a care in the world. We loved taking the golf cart off to the many access paths to the beaches so we could just swim or float on our blow up chairs! The house's location was very private yet close enough to everything so we could take the cart and find a great lunch spot or shop for dinner items to barbeque at home, which we did four of the seven nights. We would certainly recommend Suzie's Rock to our friends (and have!) or anyone else looking to relax next to a warm, crystal clear ocean lapping just steps off your deck. Thank you. D&D
Suzies Rock was a wonderful vacation home. We loved the privacy, private beach and modern conveniences. The decoration was nice, you will want to stay. The house is quite large and allows privacy for people staying in bedrooms on opposing ends of the home. Our extended family was here staying in different accomodations for a wedding. Pretty sure they were at "our place" to watch the sunrise every morning!
Treasure Cay has a ferry service so you can visit other islands, You can also hire a guide to take you spear fishing and bone fishing.
