Cozy Romantic Cabin

  • 4 of 5

Ceska Serenity has always been one of my favorite places to stay in Big Bear. I love the view, how quiet the neighborhood is, and the hot tub. Only thing I didn't like was that the tv is very small. Also in the summer it gets super hot inside.

Cute and charming, good location, better for two.

The cabin was very cute, the overall style was adorable. It is quite small, but that was great for us. It smelled like weed, which we figured was from the people staying there before us. We thought it would go away over the days of our trip, but it remained quite strong. ..not sure it was weed, but had that type of scent. The pull out bed has seen its day. And the heater was no joke, you had to keep it set at 55 because of the snow, but when it would turn on the living space would become like 95 degrees and it would blow out with crazy force, it faces directly at the hideaway bed so sleeping there is hot that it melted a part of my daughters suitcase which was a couple feet from it. The kitchen was adorable, again small but perfect for us. They had many things, like coffee filters, salt, pepper, etc. That I have had to purchase myself at other vacation rentals, so that was awesome. A shovel would have been nice, as it was dumping snow, my hubby dug out behind our car using a sled that we had purchased.

"Ceska" Must Mean "Disappointing

  • 1 of 5

This place was so tiny that it felt claustrophobic for our party of three. When we first arrived our 4-year-old dubbed it "icky," and she's been known to eat paper so she has low standards. The place was in need of a lot of repair and TLC -- things were chipped and falling apart, the kitchen was ill equipped, everything was dusty and the linens were stained. The photos of the living room show an entirely different (and better) couch and chair. The current sleeper sofa was uncomfortable and the mattress was wrapped in plastic so it crinkled every time you moved. No one slept well. The so-called "serenity" in the name of the cabin eluded us. There was also a loft area that was locked and inaccessible -- having that extra space would have made the place feel much less suffocating. On the plus side, our displeasure with our accommodations kept us out of the cabin and busy all day. We've stayed in several Cool Cabins (at various price points) and have always had positive experiences. This place way missed the mark though. Had it been significantly cheaper a night, we might not have been so disappointed, but it was a massive let down.
