About the property

Farmhouse, 4 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

Approximately 45 minutes separates the house from Marseille and its airport, Aix- en- Provence or Avignon and their TGV stations, and even the sea and its sailboats……..

In a very short time you can be in the centre of some of the most beautiful villages in France: Lourmarin or Gordes, Menerbes or Ansouis, and their celebrated markets.

A supermarket is less than a kilometre away, tennis, horse riding or golf are within easy reach but neverless the property itself is in calm and peaceful surroundings.

You can reach the house by a private road bordered by cypress and oak trees, then by a pathway of lime trees through the grape vines.

At the centre of the vineyard – classed AOC – and beside its spacious lawns shaded by 100-year old cedars, pines and oaks, La Ferme du Buou, an ancient silk worm farm from the XVII century enjoys uninterrupted views over the Luberon mountains.

Hidden in the English-style garden are some stone steps linking the south terrace to a large, alarmed pool, built to resemble a Provencal lake, and an old stone hut housing the sun beds and mattresses for the pool.

The house has kept its Provencal character, stone floors, ancient ceilings and plastered fireplace.

On entering by the south terrace, the dining room with its antique furnishings and the living room housing wifi, many English books, CD’s and DVD’s, leads into the well-equipped kitchen and rear pantry. Both the bathroom and the toilet have windows opening onto the vines.

At the top of the ancient staircase a landing separates the large bedrooms.

- a bedroom furnished in the Art Deco style which has a 1m60 bed and south- facing windows.

- A bedroom with high Provencal ceiling, a 1.60m bed with French door offering a view over the garden at sunrise.

- a mezzanine with a twin-bedded room, beds of 0.90m

The bathroom with shower and toilet overlooks the hills.

You can reach the totally independent “blue” room by an external stone staircase. This room has a 1m40 bed.

At sunset, when silence replaces the chattering of the cicadas, you should leave the shade of the south terrace and move to the courtyard with the almond tree where you can sit on the bench or chairs to watch the last rays of the setting sun.

At nightfall you can hear the frogs singing in the surrounding countryside and the pool will be magically illuminated by the many garden lights. At the stroke of midnight the automatic watering system will switch on to bring the necessary water to revitalize the precious greenery surrounding the house.

Perfect family home

  • 5 of 5

We wish to thank you for the wonderful week we spent in your beautiful

house. Despite the very hot weather it was the perfect base to start our

exploration of the surrounding area. Our baby was extremely happy to be

there - he enjoyed so much our new rhythm of breakfast in the garden,

crawling over the lawn, hunting for cigalles. In the evenings we cooled off

in your perfect pool, and then baby loved to listen to the wind chimes then

be carried around to say goodnight to all the plants and insects!

Thanks for providing everything we needed - your impeccably kept home was

both charming and functional. The WiFi by the pool also a useful thought!

We hope very much to return someday.

Wonderful trip

  • 5 of 5

My family of 5 loved our time in this beautiful farmhouse. We enjoyed the location since it was easy to visit so many great villages and towns within an hours drive. We would spend the afternoon in the pool or taking naps next to it. The yard is large enough for us to play catch and enjoy being out in the sun. The sunsets were my favorite time of day. Each evening was different and amazing. The stars were also amazing. The house has a very easy kitchen that we used every day. Lourmarin is a great place to go for the Friday market and get everything you need to enjoy great meals at the house. The town also is great for dinner or ice cream after dinner. Susi and the owner are great to work with and made our arrival and departure very easy. We are looking forward to returning as soon as possible.

Loved every minute!

  • 5 of 5

It's difficult to capture the beauty of this home in pictures. Due to the setup of the property, there are so many different vistas - each unique for it's own type of enjoyment. Every meal was spent outside on the patio listening to nothing but the birds and the crickets. Around the corner from the patio is a yard overlooking a vineyard which was perfect for boules (one of the games supplied). Further down the path, you find yourself looking past the pool down a corridor lined with lavender and olive trees. What a delight it was to swim in the beautifully maintained pool and watch my boys run around the surrounding yard.

Our boys are 11 and 18 and we all had a fabulous time. The kitchen had everything we needed for cooking and there is a major grocery store that is close. The way the property is set, we felt all alone. The fact that such a major grocery would be so close is shocking.

The manager of the property was a perfect combination of helpful yet respectful of our privacy. Upon leaving, she asked us how our stay could have been more enjoyable. Apparently the owners are very interested in that information. I believe it. Truth is I did say I would have liked a few more comfortable chairs.....who knows, though, perhaps they are really comfortable to you.

One more thing that I didn't mention to Suzi was the creak as you stepped in the upstairs bedroom. Here's the thing. It's a 17th century farmhouse! That's part of the charm!

Blissfully Private, Utterly French

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I just returned from staying three weeks at this wonderful house. We soaked up it's charm from the cozy living room to the spacious bedroom.

There are 2 "proper" bedrooms with comfortable queen sized beds with fluffy wool blankets. There is also a loft with 2 twin beds which you access by going up stairs from one of the 2 main bedrooms. This bedroom loses any privacy when the loft is being used. The 4th bedroom is separate from the house and accessed using exterior stairs. It has no bathroom unless you go back into the house.

The house has a well equipped kitchen w/magnificent views of vineyards from one window and the garden from the other window. There is a small table in the kitchen that was a charming place for 4 people to eat a meal - especially in the evening when the long light of sunset lit everything up dramatically!!!

The house is full of antique furnishings, beautiful objects ranging from the elegant to the earthy. There are many real oil paintings and whimsical details. There are also thoughtful elements like the purple market basket to use while shopping at the Friday market in Lourmarin just 2 kilometres down the road! Also an umbrella, a pith helmet (!) and a sun hat with drawstring to prevent its being blown away during the mistral!!! All was comfortable and easy to live with.

One of my favorite things to do was laundry!!! (Odd as that sounds). The trip to the clothesline past rambling blooming roses and then through the antique iron gate into the vineyard always thrilled me! We were there in late Spring and the Mistral blew at least 80% of the time which dried laundry in record time.

The house is sited down a rough "chemin prive" which is wide enough for one car. There is minimal traffic. The house sits well back from the chemin and is surrounded on 2 sides by vineyards, the other 2 sides are generous lawns edged with shrubs and trees. Stone steps take you down to the lower garden (where you can escape the wind) and it's beautiful pool surrounded by another huge lawn and exquisitely landscaped with long symmetrical vistas of olive trees, cherry and apricot trees and of course lavender.

The only less than idyllic comments I can make are that the stairs going up to the bedrooms take getting used to. The reading light could be better and the dining room could really use an overhead light!

We loved it and hope to be able to return!

Idyllic & Convenient Place, Perfect Home

  • 5 of 5

In the second week of September, my wife and I stayed at La Ferme du Buou with another couple and we had a wonderful experience. The property was everything we could have imagined and more. The house and the property have been put together as if in a dream from the pages of a book on Provence. In addition, the property has all the convenience we need to stay including wifi, a lovely kitchen and two separate bedrooms with large beds (one with an additional loft with more two beds). We especially loved the grounds and taking walks around the property in the morning and lounging in different areas in the evening, including the lawns, the fields of grapes, the pool surrounded by bursting fig trees and the shaded outdoor patio off the living room. While the property is idyllic and secluded, it's convenient to Lourmarin and as a base to explore southern France. The owners were easy to communicate with and the property manager Susi was amazingly friendly and a helpful resource. Everything you could hope for in Week in Provence!

Dreaming of coming back

  • 5 of 5

We recently returned home from a week’s stay at La Ferme du Buou with our two-year-old daughter--and we’re already dreaming of going back. It was perfect in every way. The house was beautifully furnished with French antiques, but had all the mod cons you’d need to spend a relaxing week in the country, including wifi, cable and comfortable beds. We especially loved the grounds, including the green lawns, the olive trees, the rows of lavender and the outdoor patio off the living room, where we pretty much daily ate breakfast, lunch and dinner. While the property is bucolic and incredibly peaceful, it’s only a couple minutes drive from a Super U where you can stock up on all your food and other needs. We loved the fact that the location was the perfect jumping off point to explore the many charms of Provence (we visited Aix, Les Baux, Bonnieux and Cucuron, among other places). We got into a great groove, heading out early in the morning to check out the region and coming home in the afternoon to lounge by the pool and take walks on the property. The owners were very helpful in helping us plan our stay over email and the property manager Susi was a great resource while we were there. The nearest town with shops and restaurants was Lourmarin—and Provence doesn’t get much more charming than that. Our daughter made lots of friends at the playground there. Highly recommend this place!
