YEAR-ROUND DESTINATION

Plan now for your Tahoe vacation get-away in Squaw Valley. There's fun and adventure any time of year.

LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION

Squaw Valley is located approximately halfway between Truckee (8 miles) and Tahoe City (5 miles) on beautiful Lake Tahoe.

SQUAW VALLEY TURNOFF

When driving on Highway 89 from either Truckee or Tahoe City, look for the turn-off to Squaw Valley USA. It's hard to miss the memorable signage -- those Olympic torches are still burning brightly. The Olympic Rings honor the 1960 Winter Olympic Games -- which put Squaw Valley on the map.

419 WINDING CREEK ROAD

Our vacation home at 419 Winding Creek Road is approximately one-half mile from the turnoff on Highway 89 to Squaw Valley. Squaw Valley Road is the main thoroughfare. Our property is adjacent to Squaw Valley Road and the bridge across Squaw Creek.

KID-FRIENDLY

Available for babies and toddlers are: porta-crib, youth high-chair, kids potty, baby gate and kids chair for activities at the round coffee table. Children can choose to play various games and read books.

THE VILLAGE

At the base of the mountain is The Village at Squaw Valley. Once there, it's easy access to stroll to shops, cafes and various activities. There's several ways to access the slopes.

THE RESORT

On the opposite side of the valley, across the meadow, is the Resort at Squaw Creek. Enjoy the wonderful sights at The Resort, and choose your favorite restaurants, shops and sports activities.

EXTEND YOUR REACH

If you're thinking ahead for the ski season, Squaw Valley and its partner resort, Alpine Meadows, are not far from other ski resorts: Homewood, Sugar Bowl and North Star. For more information, Google individual resorts.

About Rob Nachtwey

We enjoy coming to our mountain get-away in Squaw Valley any time of year. Our family has enjoyed Tahoe for more than 20 years. We fell in love with Squaw Valley when our sons skiied with the Squaw Valley Ski Team. At long last we purchased our 'fixer' house in 2000. It needed remodeling, so we spent a lot of time that first summer driving to Tahoe. We discovered how beautiful and fun Squaw Valley and Lake Tahoe are year-round.

Our older son eventually specialized in competitive Telemark skiing. He lived in the house with friends and his future wife for six years. Now both our sons are in their 30's. We don't get to Tahoe so often anymore, and are happy to share our lovely home with others.

Rob Nachtwey purchased this house in 2000

Why Rob Nachtwey chose Olympic Valley

The Squaw Valley shuttle rus between The Resort at Squaw Creek and The Village at Squaw Valley. This shuttle is a great amenity, with pickup at the corner of our street, just steps from the front door. Being close to the main road was a priority. First, Squaw Valley Road always gets plowed first. So one can always get on the shuttle and to the slopes. Second, everyone can come and go independently. It's easy to get back to the house for a hot lunch or to retrieve gear left behind. No need for a car in the Valley.

What makes this house unique

We appreiate easy access to the amenities offered by The Village at Squaw Valley and The Resort at Squaw Creek. It's easy to get around to various activities: ski school, shops, cafes, restaurants, grocery & wine stores, and more. There are lots of special events, as well. We love watching the dog sleds moving across the snow-covered valley floor. At night we gaze in amazement at the bright stars so visible against the dark sky. The air at Squaw Valley is filled with the smell of evergreen trees. Squaw Valley offers such a complete package that sometimes we never feel the need to leave the valley at all.

Here is my review:

Subject-- Great Location, ideal place for the family

We had a very tough situation when I decided to take my family to Sqaw Valley/Tahoe City especially to see the fireworks at Tahoe City on July4th. We had only one day to get a rental vacation home and I called many places and finally ended up calling Julie. She called back on July 4th morning and we settled everything in couple of hours.

We saw one of the best fireworks shows in Tahoe City (Lake) which is just a couple of miles from this house. This home is perfect for the family, two stories, very exciting for the kids, they had their own rooms. There were lots of games, puzzles etc. Kitchen was fully equipped and I loved the dining table (nice artsy dining table). The house was in excellent condition. The patio/balcony was the ideal place to have family breakfasts. The Squaw Village up the road has lots of entertainment, like cable car rides, swimming, miniature golf etc. Lots of activities for kids that are really fun. The whole family loved the rafting trip on the Truckee River. Overall a great experience, we loved the place and would surely recommend it others.

A wonderful place for our mini vacation

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I along with another couple had a terrific time at your home. The layout is very user friendly, especially the kitchen , dining and living areas. Its location near the walking/ biking path was especially appreciated. The entire house was spotless. The Squaw Valley location is beautiful and we would definitely stay again.

Perfect Place for Skiing Squaw!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and two young children and our two childless friends stayed at this wonderful house right at the base of Squaw. It's cozy and well-stocked with all you need for a winter getaway: wood for the fireplace, snow shovels, sleds, lots of places to hang wet clothes and put snowy boots, good washer/dryer, good heat. The layout was perfect for our needs--two downstairs bedrooms, one with trundle bunk beds and another big bed, and a bathroom--and an upstairs master suite with a loft and a cool sunken bathtub. The location is awesome. The house is easy to find and has abundant parking, including a garage. It is a 4 minute drive to Squaw: excellent ski school and world class terrain, plus lots of restaurants and shops. It takes about 15 minutes to drive to nearby Truckee. The kitchen is great for preparing meals and there are plenty of dishes and utensils. Julie is so friendly and accommodating. She really knows how to manage a property and cares about the details. We can't wait to return.

Ironman Weekend

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed at the home for the Ironman weekend. You can't beat the location, right on the run course and in between the finish line and a good spot to watch the bike. The house was well equipped and comfortable for 4 adults and 2 kids. Thanks for a great stay, if I come back to do Ironman Tahoe again we'll be back!

Enjoyed our stay

  • 5 of 5

My family of 5 stayed at this unit for 3 nights and we had a great time there. The unit has everything we need and my kids are especially loving the attic that they'd stayed there for most of time when we were in :-). LOL!!

We had been rescheduled a couple times due to conflict, and Julie was very patient with us and acommodate us. Julie is very responsive and friendly to work with!

Fantastic House with a great location

  • 5 of 5

We were very pleased with our rental. The house was very clean and well furnished. The family room/kitchen area was very comfortable. It actually sleeps more like 9 people. It isn't in the description, but there is an additional loft bedroom overlooking the master bedroom and family room. My son found it and would not give it up to his sister. We enjoyed the horseshoes and the creek behind as well. The location is great. It is very close to the bike path to Olympic Village or Tahoe City. We biked a lot while we were there. If you go, we highly recommend the sunset cruise on lake tahoe (www.tahoesail.com), the horseback riding at Alpine Meadows and if your in good shape, the Shirley Lake hike to high camp. Great views!
