About Kerri Avery

We live in Canada and though we are enthusiastic skiers, we also love the heat and culture of Mexico! Chacala was such a great find for us, that we 'got in early' as we still have kids in junior and high school. Kids come first, so, our home is available to you! We would love to find someone who wishes to rent on a monthly basis, so if you are considering this option, give us a call! Of course weekly or three day rentals are also available.

Why Kerri Avery chose Chacala

We choose this location in Mexico because in many ways it is not yet discovered. You can still buy your fish locally from the fish market, hike to the volcano rim and tour through a mango plantation to rocky beaches. The birds and sea life are amazing..we just returned and had whales 'talking to us' loudly, under the ocean floor..so awesome!

What makes this house unique

Listent to the gentle sound of the ocean without it pounding in your ears, the ocean views are gorgeous, and you will enjoy them from many vantage points! The copper kitchen is divine, and fully equipped for all sorts of cooks! We love our 14 metre pool which has a negative edge! All around you is the jungle, and a really beautiful garden! The beach is down the cobblestone steps, it might take five minutes...and also has pools, a restaurant, and internet access. You can take our beach chairs, umbrella, and toys, and really have a great day at the beach! We play tennis every morning with two courts, that never seem to get busy! There is a pathway that runs around Marina Chacala that is perfect for speed walking, running, or a gentle stroll for seniors...

Outstanding

This house is absolutely gorgeous. The photos don't do it justice. The bedrooms and bathrooms are delightful, loads of fluffy towels, lovely linen, wonderfully lit rooms with and comfortable beds. The garden is really pretty which means lovely leafy and colourful views from all the windows out to the sea. It is in a really beautiful spot with a private beach that has a good restaurant. We asked to have someone cook breakfast and lunch and the cook Marta made the most delicious food. They also got us a babysitter to help out with the little ones (there were six of them) which was great. We had such a good fun and yet relaxing holiday, we will definitely be back.

This is our second visit to Casa Roja and it will certainly not be our last. We have stayed in a lot of incredible places but this is one of the most special places in the world. The house is exquisite--every amenity possible and decorated with incredible taste and great Mexican touches. It is the kind of place that you just pinch yourself because you can't believe you are in this gorgeous setting and beautiful home. There is so much to do yet such a relaxing environment. We played a lot of tennis, picnicked on the beach, did an excursion on the water and visited a few of the quaint villages near by where we shopped at the market in La Penita or a little more upscale in Sayulita which gives you a great sense of the life and culture of Mexico that you would never experience in a resort. You can be as busy or as relaxed as you want. Just to enjoy the wonderful pool and tropical backyard over looking the ocean is spectacular--you need nothing else!!

The house itself is situated in the most incredible setting. It is large and very conducive to staying in and having great dinners---and nights sitting under the large Palapa or on the roof top patio. The gardens are beautiful--lush and colorful! The house is new and spotless and very well maintained. The owners treat you like you are there guests and welcome you to their private oasis as they would their family and friends--they want you to love the experience as much as they do. I could not recommend this place more highly.

We have just come back from a wonderful week at Casa Roja. The home is beautifully decorated in an authentic Mexican theme and it is impeccably clean. Casa Roja sits upon a hilltop with an incredible view over the tree tops to the ocean. If you can possibly tear yourself away from the pool area, which is surrounded by lush, colourful flowers, it takes less than 5 minutes to walk down to the beach. Casa Roja is in a secure, gated compound and never once did we feel unsafe. We often walked into the small town of Chacala, where there are a variety of restaurants to choose from. Our preference though was to spend our evenings at Casa Roja, under the twinkling lights with the soft cross winds of the ocean - it was truly magical!

There are several towns close by which are fun to explore and do a bit of shopping. We enjoyed Sayulita and the Thursday market in La Penita.

I would highly recommend a stay at Casa Roja!

Best Christmas vacation December 2011 to january 2012

  • 5 of 5

We were a family of ten from 7 to 79 and loved our time in beautiful Casa Roja. We walked everywhere to the beach, into town. We felt totally safe even walking into town at night. The people are so friendly in Chacala and Marina Chacala is a wonderful resort. Casa Roja is so well equipped. Every activity is covered from tennis to volleyball to snorkeling. The paths are wonderful for anyone walking or jogging. It was perfect for old and and young!! We would love another trip to Chacala and Casa Roja.

Mexican paradise

  • 5 of 5

We were 5 seniors and had a full week of undiluted luxury. The house itself is stunning. No expense has been spared to provide the kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms and pool area with top quality equipment while preserving a wonderful Mexican flavour in the decor. Everything cleaned and maintained by helpful staff. We spent time round the pool in the sun or in the shade of the thatched roof open sided "palapa" often with a gentle refreshing breeze blowing up from the ocean. For some of us however the highlight was the beach which - at this time of year - we had practically to ourselves. Casa Roja is one of over 50 properties in this securely gated community and the beach plus regular pool, lap pool and kids' pool and restaurant are for the private use of the residents. The best sea swimming I have ever had in four continents. Water pleasantly warm, waves small to moderate and sand firm. Very safe.

The town itself is charming. There is a beach with at least 3 perfectly adequate restaurants where the various types of fish fish are delicious. Go about 5.30 and enjoy the sunset. Last orders before 7.00 pm. Don't miss the fishing boats at the wharf. Buy fish here or at the fish shop in the town. Ask about the efforts of the local ex-pat community to help with education of the local kids.

We found shopping in Las Varas (20 minutes drive) was quite OK for our needs, including liquor, and we ate at home for either lunch or dinner most days. We rented a car and could not have managed without. Would not recommend driving into Puerto Vallarta or Costco - a waste of a day on a long and tortuous road.

Amazing Family Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Our family decided to check out this beautiful getaway shortly after the birth of our second daughter. We wanted a kid friendly location, so that naps would be easy to maintain. This property was amazing, while kids were napping we hung out in the pool. Quite and relaxing was what we were searching. The town of Chacala was beyond our expectations. Peacefull and Safe. Many evenings we walked home after dark with two young kids and not once did we feel uncomfortable or at risk. The house was amazing, everything we needed was at the location, with the beach just a short walk away. Our daughter loved swimming in the waves and playing in the sand. Words can't even explain what a wonderful holiday we had. I would recommend this property for a family or couples with children, young or old. Bring your friends and/or siblings, there's room for everyone. There is something to do for every age. If you worried about not having internet or television, don't worry its amazing. We actaully spent quaility time with each other as a family. Something we used to take for granted.

..The great thing about Chacala is the access to places like Sayulita (the fun surf town) which is about half an hour away. You can rent surf boards, take lessons, and eat at great eateries. As well, you can surf five minutes away from Chacalitta Bay right in Marina Chacala. We have a hugs deck on the roof that allows lots of space for teenagers and kids for ping pong and hanging out. The stars are amazing at night! The view of the ocean is breath taking!
