About Theresa Andreou

We have three children and fell in love with the beach in Kailua. It is a fabulous beach, excellent for children and ideal for all water sports. Kailua is a great town just 20 minutes from Honolulu, yet a world away. It is quiet, with unique shops and restaurants.

Theresa Andreou purchased this house in 2009

Why Theresa Andreou chose Kalama Tract

We are very reasonably priced. $600 USD/night or $800CDN/night. We have not raised our prices over the last 4 years.

$500US cleaning fee, 13.95% State of Hawaii tax added to price.

Also require a $600 refundable damage deposit check.

The private swimming pool is a huge asset. great for children and adults alike.

What makes this house unique

We have a true beach front home on the best part of the beach, in a quiet location. Also the private swimming pool is an additional great feature of our home.

We also have a caretaker the lives in a separate part of the house. She is available if there is an issue that requires attention such as a malfunctioning A/C unit, etc. She only shares the driveway with the main house, but she does not use the pool/yard, etc.

Hawaii as it is meant to be!

  • 5 of 5

From the moment that you walk in the door, you feel this incredible vibe like you are living like one of the locals. As advertised, 20 steps from the back door is the most beautiful beach you have ever seen. In addition to the pure soft sand and crystal clear blue water is amazing surf and a horizon that you find yourself staring at for hours at a time. In fact, the view is so beautiful that waking up before 6am every day to watch a breathtaking sunrise became a staple of our trip.

The house itself was well maintained and provided a genuine Hawaiian experience. The bedrooms were very comfortable, the social areas were equipped with lots of space and beautiful views, the kitchen was modern and had everything we needed, and the pool provided wonderful relief from the the heat when needed. We went to Hawaii to get married, and one of our favorite memories will be coming home from the ceremony and reception and just sharing a glass of wine with our closest friends at the beautiful wooden dining room table with the back door open and a heavenly breeze blowing while we soaked it all up and listened to the ocean.

In addition to an amazing house, Kailua is an amazing town. Friendly people, great restaurants, and of course, the most beautiful beach on the Island. The best compliment we can pay to the property is that we only went to Waikiki once in our 7 day stay.

If you are looking for a truly authentic Hawaiian experience with enough luxury to still feel pampered on vacation, this is the perfect spot for you. We honestly created so many amazing memories there and we will never forget our week in paradise.

Hawaii as it is meant to be!

  • 5 of 5

I can say without a doubt that this property created for us the perfect Hawaiian experience. As per the listing, it is literally 20 steps from the most beautiful beach we have ever seen. Golden sand, incredible surf, and a skyline that was worth waking up at 5:30am every morning to see a different picturesque sunset every time. The house was extremely well maintained and provided everything that we needed. We went to Hawaii for our wedding and the most memorable part for all of us was after the ceremony and reception, sitting at the beautiful wooden dining room table enjoying the soft wind from the ocean through the open door and just admiring the sheer beauty of this part of the world. The pool is a beautiful and secluded and provided a wonderful contrast to the ocean. the kitchen had everything we needed and the bedrooms were more than adequate. The other aspect of our trip that was exceptional, and in a sense surprising, was how wonderful the town of Kailua was. The people, the restaurants, and especially the vibe were exactly what we were looking for; the best compliment I can pay is that we only left the town twice, once to get married and once to go to the swap meet. I strongly recommend this property to anyone looking for an authentic, Hawaiian paradise.

You are on the beach

  • 5 of 5

Location, location, location. You are smack in the middle of the most beautiful beach Oahu has to offer. Spectacular sun rises with the mokes as a back drop. The pool is very refreshing and a welcomed change from the ocean. The home itself is very open air with a well stocked kitchen and plenty of seating area for family visits. You are living the Hawaiian lifestyle while staying in this beach front rental. We found the property of be an exceptional value for its location. Enjoy !

Glorified Camping

  • 2 of 5

We were drawn to this property due to the reviews and location as we have been to Kailua several times in September. The price point seemed a bit high but due to the size of the house and location we decided to rent it for 5 days in September.

The house advertises that it has AC despite an indoor/outdoor vibe and that the on site caretaker is not a factor. Unfortunately for us the week we rented the trade winds were not present and the temperatures ranged between 86-92 degrees with humidity of 78%. The main portion of the house is indoor/outdoor and has no heating or cooling capabilities so whatever temperature it is outdoors is what the temperature is indoors. The bedrooms have portable AC units but the unit in the master bedroom/bathroom could not cool it- the temp in the bedroom was never cooled below 83 degrees with humidity. The next largest bedroom where we considered moving had a broken AC unit. As for the caretaker- her living space is directly next to the family and kitchen area. She played music loudly every morning and early evening and entertained quite loudly as well. I alerted the owner via e-mail after our first night- she responded the next day saying she would address the noise issue which did happen on Tuesday afternoon. On Tuesday afternoon, our 2nd day, the temperatures were 92 degrees making the house unbearable. We opted to move to a hotel for the remaining 3 days of our vacation at considerable expense. We notified the owner with no response.

The house itself has a lovely pool, nice linens, updated master bathroom, nice kitchen amenities and plentiful outdoor and indoor seating. There is no view of the ocean from the house but the beach is right out the back door. The outdoor shower is an elevated garden hose. There is also no way to secure belongings such as valuable electronics. If it were not for the ocean and the pool we would not have made it even the 2 days at the house. Basically, at this price point we expected more and were very disappointed.

Owner's Response: It is unfortunate that the 2 A/C units were not functioning properly. These have been replaced. The caretaker was indeed loud one night and this is out of character for her, and this is not a usual occurrence. There were in fact new spare A/C units in the garage but these guests decided to leave before the malfunctioning ones could be replaced. Interesting that these guests even complained about the outdoor shower which is a proper metal shower. I believe this gives an insight is some renters' expectations. Sometimes these type of guests are much better renting a hotel room rather than a house on VRBO.

Excellent Location, Suspect House

  • 2 of 5

First impression of the house was not good. House was dirty, could barely see through the windows. First thing we did was buy some cleaning supplies and whole family cleaned for two hours. Cobwebs, dust, dirt, filthy windows. My wife then discovered the lizards everywhere. House is open floor plan with atrium so this was understandable to me. I just grabbed them and relocated them outside. There were some good things about the house. The kitchen was nice once cleaned, dining room table was beautiful, I didn't care too much for furniture, but there was plenty of space for our large group. Master Bedroom and Bath is beautiful room, other rooms were small. Air conditioner in master couldn't keep the room at night below 80 degrees. The ducting for the Portable AC Units are old and brittle. I had to make a couple of repairs to the duct when I tried to re-position the units. When it rained, it created a small pond at entry by parking spaces and family had to wade through ankle deep water to get to cars. My overall opinion of the house is that is in dire need of upgrades and TLC. We spent most of our time outdoors, so house was bearable. This brings me to the best part of the house which was the location. We really enjoyed walking out the back door and up the trail to beach. Beautiful beach. Sunrise is absolutely Beautiful. The beach is where most of our time was spent while at the house. Do have to warn you though, and maybe just time of year, but three of our group plus a local boy was stung by jellyfish. Keep an eye out while you are in the water. The beach and water amenities were plenty and most were in decent shape, except for the chairs. We did not attempt to use them because they were all rusted out and were afraid they would break.

I expected more out the house from the pictures that are posted on VRBO but the location was what I was looking for.

Owner's Response: I must say this is not the typical review we receive from guests. There is a professional cleaning service that cleans the house after each stay, and the guest never voiced any concerns during their stay about any of these issues. The lizards are actually tiny geckos commonly found in Hawaii. Completely harmless and part of the Hawaiian ecosystem. The windows can get stained if it rains before a guest arrives, but this is sometimes unavoidable. Jellyfish appear one to two days each month depending of the tides, but to be stung is very rare. Usually a small dose of advil or an antihistamine takes care of the problem. This is why having a private pool is also a huge plus for our house.Once again, we strive to provide an excellent setting to enjoy the beach. Our price per night provides excellent value for a group 8. Most of our other reviews reflect our beach house somewhat more accurately.
