About Norah Bird Hamilton

Hi! Bob and Norah have owned and operated a couple of country inns and a spa, as well as a small construction/development company for several years. As they endeavor to semi-retire they enjoy travel, art, photography, and dancing, as well as working as Team Leaders with Habitat For Humanity. Amongst other volunteer positions they are presently on the Board for the Drumheller Chapter of Habitats with a $250,000 fundraising project at hand.. They also try to spend some of each winter in the Ajijic area of Mexico.

Norah Bird Hamilton purchased this condo in 2011

Why Norah Bird Hamilton chose Salagua

While we love the community and weather of the Ajijic area, Manzanillo offers so much more with regards to playing in the ocean. We really enjoy areas that are more off the beaten path, less tainted by the smell of tourism. Manzanillo offers all the amenities of the larger resorts with much more of the true local flavor. Colima being lower in crime than much of the world in general, there is a a soul in the people and their history that reaches out and communicates to the Traveler. It is just a delightful area.

What makes this condo unique

Tropical beaches, swimming, scuba diving, deep sea fishing and the seafood are high on our list of things to enjoy. We particularly enjoy wandering in the more residential area in behind the port where the we are able to enjoy the local culture in all its colours. We also look forward to regularly visiting an Orphanage setup by some of our family members, which is located not far in Colima the capital of the State. Feel free to ask if there is anything you can become involved with at the Orphanage.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Please hold on to the deposit check. Hoping we can all agree on July 10, 11 , 12

Just returned from a wonderful mini-vacation in the penrhouse unit 608 st Gran Pacifico condo in Manzanillo. Cant say enough good things about this unit. It is spotllessly clean and well equipped with anything you could want or need. We did not cook but it looked as rhough anything you could want is rhere. Our group was age 11 through mid 70s and there was truly somerhing for everyone. The pool area is partularly attractive and designed in such a way that privacy is always available. The beach is clean, not overcrowdred, and conducive to long walks.

Already making plans to return next month, as we dont think this condo could be improved.

A little lacking

  • 3 of 5

The complex was awesome, right on the beach, walked for a mile or two one way, staff very helpful and courteous. The condo itself is okay for a few days but needs some serious work as far as the decor goes, some things need to be fixed like the braces that hold the stairs are cracked, not sure they are too safe, also the towels were more like rags, very threadbare and one for each person. No curtain on one of the windows in the second bedroom which is kitty corner to another window right next door. For the price we paid I expected more.

Owner's Response: Judy Our apologies the suite was disappointing. The Mesquite stairs are throughout the complex and are considered an exotic, as well as endangered species. The only way to enjoy this beautiful wood in the future is from re-purposed material. It typically develops cracks which are not filled where the climate has ever-changing humidity, but structurally the stairs are perfectly safe. The window without the curtain is in the photo of the second bedroom where it faces the ocean only, so there is no potential for anyone to see in. With regards to the towels, as I understand it, you did not have any for either of your two days stay. All of the linens save the second set of sheets went to the laundry and no one realized it did not get returned. As you did not say anything to me or the Front Desk, no one noticed. I am so sorry. I am going to contact VRBO to see if there is some way that they can ensure our Guests see our Rental Agreement that says that the Front Desk and ourselves should be contacted immediately should anything need attention. Thank you for your stay. Norah

Good location and well maintained property

  • 5 of 5

We found this in VRBO and emails were responded to very quickly. The rental was easy and this property is in a great spot. The beach here is not suitable for swimming, just some ankle deep splashing around. Very nice views though and best pool in the entire area. Across the street from malls, groceries and many nice places to eat. Property is very safe and secure with attentive 24 hour security, however this area is very safe without it as well. Manzanillo is a great place to explore without all the "resort" industry ruining it. This felt like real Mexico. Walked around everywhere Without worry. There were some hiccups the rental but the owner was very quick to fix things and accommodate. The best beach is a 7 dollar usd cab ride or less away. We would stay again for certain. Great value.

Large 3 Bedroom, 3 1/2 bath Condo - great for families and entertaining

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at a unit similiar to photos but the one we were in had 3 floors, 3 bedrooms, 3 1/2 baths

with similiar furniture. We felt this complex had the 'PPP FACTOR' - meaning awesome POOL,

very friendly Canadian PEOPLE and the PRICE was also perfect when comparing it to high end

resorts. We enjoyed the fresh seafood as well as the many good restaurants - most within walking

distance. It is very difficult to rent a car in Manzanillo however since this complex was on the main

downtown strip, you could either walk to many restaurants, Walmart, Food Store or take the buses

at 7 pesos each or hire a cab - very reasonable. Manzanillo is a Shipping Port where many of the

locals work and our main challenging issue we had was the fact that most of the locals do not

speak English and it is not a Tourist Area like the Riviera or Puerto Vallarta where there is much

more to do and see. We will be returning to Mexico with the wonderful weather but want to try a

different area where there is more sightseeing and English speaking people.

Re: Elegance Blue all and so much more.

  • 5 of 5

We have been to this area a few times before and love it. This listing as said in the head line is central to most things, you can walk to get groceries, two; great restaurants are across the street. There is a large pool with a swim up bar, a large palapa with ping pong table and there is also tennis courts on the complex property. If you need to travel away from the area say to the flea market which is held on Saturday, the buses are easily accessible and if need be the clerk at the front desk will call a taxi for you. The photos of the rental were quite accurate, there might be some differences as the owners have more then one unit, but the furnishing are very much the same. The unit and the whole complex are well maintained and very secure. We would have no problem recommending this property to anyone as this property is a little more elaborate then some others.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much, but I can't figure out who wrote this. We have got all three units finished but two are now booked for the whole year, so only 235 is available, hence the pictures are of it.
