Overview

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 5)

Rancho Zen is located on Gringo Hill; just a short walk to the town center and beach. The large upper deck of this unique two story home provides a lovely view of the ocean, lush gardens below, and an occasional iguana.

Fresh sheets, towels, and purified drinking water are provided along with a washer/dryer on site and ceiling fans in every room. Our friendly (American) property manager is available should you need him. We also provide phone (local calls only), internet access, ipod/iphone docking station, and a well equipped kitchen.

Our favorite spot in the house is known as the 'stick room', with wrought-iron and woven bamboo shutters that open up on three sides to a private balcony overlooking the garden.

We call our Sayulita home 'Rancho Zen' because that's exactly what it is; a tranquil, idyllic getaway nestled in the palms and tropical flowering plants.

Perfect house for our vacation

  • 5 of 5

Rancho Zen was the ideal home for our family vacation! I read through all of the reviews that were posted and agree with each of them. The mildew smell is inevitable due to the humidity in the bamboo shuttered sleeping room so I just changed the sheets and pillowcases after a few days and it was fine. That room was perfect for sleeping.

It should be noted that the 2 floors are not connected by an internal staircase- you need to use the exterior stairs for accessing the downstairs sleeping area. If you have anyone in your party that has a hard time navigating stairs it could be a challenge.

Paul did warn us (when we asked) that we should keep the doors locked at all times, so that increased the inconvenience of the upstairs/downstairs scenario.

The big question is- would I rent this home again? And the answer is YES! It was close to town but not too close. The natural wildlife sounds and scenes were an unexpected treat. It was comfortable for 5 adults- the 2 full bathrooms were needed and appreciated. One warning: do not swim in the ocean! We think that is where we got sick :-(

But we loved Sayulita and highly recommend Rancho Zen.

Wet moldy room

  • 1 of 5

The house is nice but it seems very unused and we left early due to our bedroom smelling like mold and the sheets feeling wet . The house does need a little more TLC

A wonderful place to stay in lovely Sayulita!

  • 4 of 5

Rancho Zen is large with a comfortable floor plan. The most fun spot on the property is the huge upstairs patio that has a view of the ocean. Good place for games, for dinner, even a little dancing! Paul, the manager lives in the area and is ready if help is needed. WiFi helps visitors find restaurants and places of interest Paul might have missed in his overview. Do be prepared for a hike up the hill to the property and construction in the area. It will soon be finished and your stay in Sayulita will be delightfully memorable!!

Great Location With Everything You Need And Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

The house is just as great as it looks in the photo's. The location is awesome just minutes off the main square. We were able to walk to a small store for supplies and go out for dinner with just a short walk. There is a good little hill to walk up so for those with mobility challenges this may be a concern. Other than that the place is awesome.

The best part of our stay was the service by the onsite manager Paul (Pablo). One day the dryer machine was not working properly. We had already washed all of our clothes and they were wet. We had to fly home the next day. We called Paul at 9 at night. He came over to try and fix the machine and after he could not he got on the phone and called some local friends. Paul took our clothes over to a friends house, waited for them to dry and then drove them back and delivered them to our door. THIS is above and beyond service. Thank you Paul! We hope to see you again soon! - Rob & Jessica

Great Home

  • 4 of 5

Great home, located close to town. The decor is a bit of local yet with a funky vibe. It's a little uphill, especially if your are carrying surfboards. The kitchen and living room are great place to relax and easy had to host 6 people. Although it's located on a corner and can be a little busy/noisy during the day, it's fairly quiet at night. Plenty of fans also make it quite tolerable when sleeping and sietsing during the day. Paul the property manager was really easy to get a hold of and very accommodating, definitely one of the better property I have dealt with in Mexico. Also it's quite reasonable for price compared to other places available. i would definitely recommend Rancho Zen to other people.

About The Owner

Winston and Jeri are native Southern California residents who have traveled extensively and have settled on their second home in Sayulita, Mexico. They love music, wine, and the ocean. But especially the wine.

The Owner purchased this house in 2001

Why The Owner chose Sayulita

Winston and Jeri first visited Sayulita in the mid 1990's... and kept coming back for more. They finally bought their home on Gringo Hill in 2001. We loved the location, large lot, and the trippy Asian looking cupola on the roof; thus the name 'Rancho Zen'. Sayulita has a laid back, surfer town vibe found nowhere else in Mexico. The people are welcoming, the food is incredible, and there is tons to do (or nothing to do. It's up to you).

What makes this house unique

We love the ocean view through the palms and lush banana trees. Our large front garden area and corner location sets our property apart and ensures total privacy. Though town can get a little noisy, Rancho Zen is an oasis of peace and tranquility. You will love it here.
