Why Mary Jo chose Scaly Mountain

This house is nestled in the woods with gorgeous views and a flowing waterfall. The sounds of nature permeate your surrounding. It is secluded for those who seek a quiet nature setting but it also is located in an area where you can venture out and find the 'thrill' that only this area can bring! That's why I had to have it!!

What makes this house unique

Privacy, privacy and privacy!!!!

Hiking, shopping, wineries and dining out too : )

Guestbook comments from the owner

Great house! Great area! There is so much to do in a weekend! Loved hiking down to the gorgeous waterfall covered in snow. Tubing at the Scaly Outdoor Center was awesome. Highlands is a beautiful mountain town. We will definately be back!

We have stayed in many and this is by far the BEST mountain rental we have been blessed to stay in.

  • 5 of 5

This mountain home is very secluded and our dog had a blast!!! It was so nice being able to let him run free. The waterfall is breathtaking. It is so very peaceful with amazing porch views and sounds!! The cabin is extremely clean, cozy, and well stocked! We will be back! Worth every penny!!

Very relaxing and comfortable!

  • 4 of 5

Mary Jo has done a wonderful job of making this cabin cozy and comfortable. All of the little special touches make it a perfect mountain get away. It has everything you need to enjoy your stay. I have to say that I am really glad that we read the reviews and heeded the advice to get there in the daylight. We were a little uncertain the first time we drove down the driveway/street. We were in a Honda Accord and had perfect weather the whole time there. Had there been any rain or inclimate weather, I'm not sure we would have made it. You don't necessarily need a 4 wheel drive vehicle but it would be better in a car that sits a little higher than ours did. Once you make it to the cabin, you will not want to leave the cozy comfort of this home. We will definitely try to get back someday.

A Great Escape

  • 5 of 5

The Scaly Mountain cabin was exactly what we were looking for. It was perfect for an early morning hike, lunch in Highlands and then chilling on the porch for the rest of the day. We loved the view and the trails to the waterfall. The location at the end of the long driveway meant we could leave the dog off leash without worry. The house itself was very comfortable and very well-stocked with cookware and staples. The garden and trails are like a fairyland. We'll be back!

Enchanted Forest

  • 5 of 5

Mary Jo's cabin provides a lovely forest setting which comes straight out of a storybook.

The property is truly breathtaking from mountain views to lush plant life. Whimsical signs direct one along the trails and pathways. The same whimsy is seen throughout the gardens complete with a life size Sasquatch. The cabins decor was eclectic which was very appealing to the senses and relaxing. The layout of the home was very comfortable for our family of four. We especially enjoyed our time playing games on the porch during the rain showers throughout the weekend. I save the best part of the review for last. Take your time as you adventure to the waterfalls and spend time playing in the streams. It was pure magic.

My hope is to be back very soon to see this North Carolina gem.
