There you will experience breathtaking sunsets and gorgeous views of the islands of Lana'i and Moloka'i. The condo, located on the west side of Maui, is minutes away from Lahaina and Kaanapali Beach. This is our 3rd trip to Maui. We enjoy staying in this area, close to several beaches for snorkeling. This condo is very nice, comfortable furnishings& well stocked. We often cook meals when we travel and appreciated the nearby stores and Farmers Market. The kitchen is small but had everything we needed (thanks for spices, baggies, foil, coffee filters, etc.). We saw an eel, turtles & of course whales! So much closer and more active than any other visit. We enjoyed being able to sleep to the sound of the ocean, didn't need to run AC. We were very grateful for beach chairs and umbrella (we have had to purchase at other condos and then left them in the unit). The other beach items are great to have too (if we had our kids/grandkids along with us we would have use them). It's not possible to bring all the beach stuff by air. Your guest information notebook is a great resource!

Notes:
• The front door has a security screen installed making it easy to leave the door open to allow breezes to flow through. • There are 3 volcanic reefs parallel to our shore. During low to mid-tide, the inner area, amid the seawall & the 1st reef is well-protected. Between the 1st & 2nd reef is a natural channel we refer to as 'the tub', which is only 4-7' deep. The reefs shelter this area from ocean swell and provide for great snorkeling along some of the healthiest reef on the west side of Maui! Past the 2nd reef and among the lava labyrinth of the 3rd is the best area to observe a large variety of sea life while snorkeling! We also see turtles daily, as well as tons of fish, Eagle rays, sea birds and the occasional Monk seal. This unit is conveniently situated just off the shoreline for easy access to snorkeling, paddle-boarding and kayaking. • From December through mid-April this unit is perfectly located for whale watching!

Perfect Place to be!

You have a beautiful view of the ocean from the lanai, or you can walk down the stairs and you overlooking the ocean. The condo was spacious, clean, equipped. We even did a couple massage in the living room. Heather gave us a name of a massage therapist and she came over one day. We opened the sliding doors and listened to the ocean as we got a massage. The condo was in a perfect location - you can walk to everything you need - coffee, farmers market, groceries, restaurants. There were days that we didn't leave the condo. You are just a few minutes from the crowds in Lahiana. It was so very perfect. Did I mention Heather was great from the time I contacted her to rent the condo, I had questions and she was always there. Thanks Heather!!

Enjoyable Stay

We were here for one week and enjoyed our stay very much. The unit was clean, comfortable, and spacious. The newly updated bathroom and floors were very nice, and we enjoyed eating and relaxing on the lanai. We particularly loved hearing the sound of the ocean every night as we drifted off to sleep. It was very convenient to use the lounge chairs along the ocean, and the people we met there (some residents and some guests) were very nice. It was fun to watch for the turtles and wade in the water at lower tides. If you want a beach, though, there isn’t one here. The unit is well-stocked with items for guests to use, such as coolers, binoculars, beach towels, etc. There were a few small things that could be improved, such as closet doors and kitchen cabinets, but they were minor and did not detract from our stay. It was a bit of a drive to some of the upcountry things we wanted to do but at the same time was very convenient to some good restaurants, beaches, and Lahaina town.

It is true that there is not a lot of beach here, but the snorkeling off the property is great, and there are some wonderful beaches nearby. Please note we do have new closet doors on order as well. clean well stocked condo. no beach, rough waves most of time end of Dec. if weather is poor this part of island it's the longest drive to get south away from wind.

Great grounds, misleading ad and rundown property

The grounds and location of the condo are great. We enjoyed walks on the beach at low tide, had great neighbors, enjoyed the sunset and going to sleep to the ocean sounds. The property itself was pretty rundown compared to other units on property. The carpet needs to be replaced and the screen door in the front is rusting away.

The property ad has several false advertisements. The communal pool is the city of Lahaina pool, the washer and clothes dryer is listed in the ad just to have a disclaimer that you can use a laundromat. I have booked several vacation rentals through HomeAway with family and have always had great service and have always had everything be exactly as advertised, until now.

When I emailed to ask Heather she blamed me for missing it and then got me on the phone (probably because she didn't want her response in writing). She again blamed me and told me she couldn't do anything and I was the only one that had ever mentioned it. At that time I told Heather she needed to remove those items from the ad, she gave me the impression she was not going to do that. So I had to take time away from vacationing with my husband and twin 3 year olds to go and do laundry as I packed planning to be able to throw a load of clothes in halfway through my trip.

I looked again and again at the mobile ap (which I used exclusively to book the property) and found out that you have to be on a computer and click on each misleading piece of information that I "should have caught". She did give me the option that sometimes the cleaning lady will take a load of laundry home with her. I don't feel right about asking someone to do that, washer and dryer listed in the ad means it is in the unit.

I expected some kind of option to move elsewhere or at least a refund since something that was important to me was misrepresented in the ad. I had no intention of paying for an old rundown property and then paying for another on top of it so I stayed for the duration of what I paid for. I also had to walk my 3 year olds past a pool that we couldn't even use several times a day to get to my reserved parking spot on the other side of the property because building 7 is not allowed to use those amenities.

Owner's Response: This property is well loved and maintained by the owner. We are both aware that it needs to be updated. We do understand the carpet needs replacing. Replacing the floors and bathroom have been scheduled since late this winter. There are other items that will be updated along the way, including the screen door. I'm sorry if there was some misunderstanding. UPDATE - There are new floors throughout, as well as a new bathroom, dishwasher, and locking security screen door.

Maui Sands Seaside is a lovely property that epitomizes the 'Old School' Hawaiian feel. We have beautiful grounds with mango and banana trees, along with luscious tropical plants and beautiful flowers in bloom. The property is low density with 20 units sitting on a little over an acre.

The real gem of the property is the Pacific Ocean View. The property sits on a stretch of oceanfront, facing the Island of Lana'i just to the south, and Moloka'i across the channel for one of the more spectacular sunset views on the island of Maui.

Our shore has three volcanic reefs running parallel to the shoreline, providing a mini snorkeling/swimming channel 4-7' deep, perfect for viewing our parade of turtles up close! The inside of the 1st reef is perfect for smaller kids to build sandcastles at low tide, and play in the water, as the reefs serve to protect our narrow stretch of sand from the rougher high tide surf.

A short 3 minute walk to the north brings you to Honokawai Beach Park, with a playground. To the south is the Honolua Kai Park and a fabulous beach walk going all the way to Whalers Village and Black Rock.
