Welcome to Casa Cappellino - the Italy we all dream of experiencing.

Casa Cappellino nestles among the Tuscan hills and stands on 3 acres of gardens and vineyard. These grounds are lovingly landscaped with ponds, olive grove, vineyard, fruit trees and flowering plants. Your private vacation home is an independent stone house that has been beautifully restored to the highest standard, retaining it's Tuscan charm with wooden beams and stone floors. Casa Cappellino is designed for private relaxing and comfortable living for all seasons.

The property is located in the true, genuine, Italian countryside far enough from the major tourist areas, so that authentic Italian life can be experienced.

Among these rolling Tuscan hills, you can explore the nearby hills, fields and streams bountiful with wild-life, chestnuts, walnuts, mushrooms, rare ferns and wild flowers. The property overlooks a small tranquil village in which its proud residents have lived for generations in their family homes.

A famous Tuscan restaurant 'Il Rifugio', that attracts patrons from Milan and Florence, is within a 5-minute walk of your holiday rental home.

Your House overlooks the beautifully landscaped grounds that provides a peaceful and secluded holiday vacation retreat for relaxation and intimate getaways. The terrace is an amazingly relaxing place to sunbathe, read, have romantic meals or stargaze into the night.

There are outdoor sitting areas where you can choose to spend the time and relax in a peaceful setting. The terrace of your house is completely private and it commands magnificent views across rolling hills to the birthplace of Michelangelo and a panorama view of Lama that lies in the valley below.

The house is a charming Tuscan home on two levels. It is built with stone exterior walls, wooden beams, terra cotta ceilings, chestnut wooden doors and windows, terra cotta floors. It has two large bedrooms with double beds. The open kitchen, dining and living area with a wood-burning stove, are perfect for intimate and relaxing settings. The bedroom on the lower level opens to the veranda with amazing views of Michelangelo's birth home and the small village of Lama below where our local grocery store and wonderful Il RIfugio restaurant are located.

Your vacation home is of course equipped with everything you could possibly need to feel 'right at home'. This includes a fully equipped kitchen, hundreds of channels of satellite TV, numerous classic movies for viewing, and WiFi Internet access throughout the property.

We are centrally situated within easy access to major attractions. You can easily take day trips to Florence, Pisa, Bologna, Cortona, Siena, Perugia, Assisi, Rome, or many of the infinite charming unknown Italian villages.

At Casa Cappellino, it is our goal to make your stay the most memorable possible.

About Raul

Hi - we are Raul and Marianne. We are the owners of Casa Cappellino and we hope you love our house as much as we do. We spend most of the year in Florida and part of the time at our beautiful Casa Cappellino. When we are in Florida, we leave the care of Casa Cappellino in the capable hands of our friends and they will ensure that you have the best possible holiday here.

Raul purchased this villa in 2014

Why Raul chose Arezzo Province

Of all the countries we have visited, the wonderful people of Italy and the beautiful country won us over.

Cappellino is very relaxing with plenty of ideal places for simple walks or hikes. But also, the property is very centrally located such that days trips to many wonderful towns (Florence, Assisi, Cortona, Siena, Rimini, Chianti, Montalcino, etc.) are very easy. Many people also make day trips to Rome by driving to the nearby Arezzo train station and taking the 2 hour train to Rome and then return in the evening.

Your experiencing the best possible vacation is our highest priority and we will do everything we can make your time here memorable.

What makes this villa unique

The beauty of staying at Cappellino is you have your very own house. It is a beautifully restored stone Tuscan house and has everything you will need to feel completely at home. Within a 5 minute walk of your house you have a very charming grocery store and perhaps most importantly, you have Il Rifugio restaurant - the best Italian restaurant in the world!!!!

Plus, staying at Casa Cappellino allows you to experience the Italy we have all dreamed about. Not gift shops and quick pizza focused on the tourism trade. Staying at Cappellino you will find beautiful, warm, Italian friends and neighbors who have lived here from generations with the added benefit of the best local Italian restaurants you could ever possibly find.

Casa Cappellino

  • 5 of 5

What can I say about a perfect vacation and location. We rented Casa Cappellino for two months. Every morning waking up to the most beautiful scenery was amazing. Lama is a very small town next to Caprese Michelangelo another small town but they have some wonderful restaurants. We became friends with many of the residents and it was really sad to leave even though after 6 weeks we started to get home sick. It truly was a once in a lifetime experience for us. The house is so cute and a typical Tuscan structure so I was very surprised to get a large bedroom and bathroom. Both bedrooms were of a good size. Very well kept and the grounds were beautiful with all kinds of plantings including a vineyard. Another plus was a washer and dryer, which is unusual for a rental in Europe. We even had English speaking channels on the television so we could keep up with the news at home. WiFi is also included. There was a very large deck overlooking the mountains and local village.

Yes, it really is as beautiful as the photos.

  • 5 of 5

Have just returned from a holiday in Italy which included a 10 day stay at Casa Cappelino.

The property is in one of the most stunningly beautiful locations imaginable. The views are the sort you could never tire of, you sometimes had to pinch yourself to ensure that the whole thing was real, and not photoshopped.

John and Sue, who manage the property locally, were unfailingly hospitable and attentive. Their recommendations for food were good too, the Il Rifugio restaurant, which is about 800 metres away, is superb.

We will retain the fondest of memories of the evenings on the terrace, the hours spent reading in the hammock, the sense of calm and relaxation ( we will miss Min the cat too!).

All in all, an unhesitating and thorough recommendation of this property for anyone who wants to experience Tuscany at it's majestic best.

Can't wait to return

  • 5 of 5

We have travelled and holidayed extensively In Tuscany over the years but since we found Casa Cappellino we have been very happy to return each year for the last 4 years

The house is a typical Tuscan property set in the countryside just above the small village of Lama with a view across the garden and vineyard and then down the valley and across the countryside towards Buca Di Michelangelo, Caprese Michelangelo, Sansepolcro and Anghiari There are numerous good restaurants within 10 to 20 minute drive, with one even in walking distance – Il Rifugio

The location is so peaceful and it is wonderful to wake up to the sun streaming in through the windows and to the sound of bird song

There has been a change this year as Dennis has sold the property to Raul and Marianne who are building on Dennis’s renowned hospitality Sue and John, who are managing the property locally, are extremely friendly and very helpful with information about the area –nothing is too much for them They have started introducing new touches of homeliness such as fresh fruit/flowers/wine and welcoming pack of food essentials to start the holiday well

I am sure we will be returning to Casa Cappellino next year

Beautiful location

  • 3 of 5

Just spent a few weeks at Casa Capellino and loved the gorgeous location. It was fantastic being away from the tourist traps and we loved pottering down to the local mercato (lovely people) or heading to the street markets in nearby Anghiari or Sansepolcro. Lots of good restaurants to be found but best by far for us was the wonderful Fontandrone, just a few kms away - superb food, gorgeous views and lovely, lovely staff. Il Refugio only five minutes walk down the hill was terrific and the staff were also wonderful. Buca on a nearby hilltop was also good.

Sue and John the folk who manage the villa for the absentee owner couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. But the villa itself was for us a disappointment and was far from luxurious as it was advertised - more basic or rustic. It was clean and the grounds, the views and the sunny terrace were great, though the terrace only had one sun lounge which seemed a bit hard given it's a villa advertised as suitable for four to six people! The living room is small with three of the most uncomfortable chairs I've ever encountered - a truly awful sofa bed/couch with no arms ( more like an old -fashioned car bench seat) and two very old and past their use by dates, lounge chairs. If four (or six!!) guests want to sit and watch TV or just sit there simply isn't enough furniture. The kitchen needs work. Because we were there for several weeks we wanted to occasionally cook for ourselves. The gas burners don't pack much heat, the oven doesn't seal properly, the freezer in the small fridge (about bar frig size) over-freezes and that causes the frig door to not shut properly, which means food either freezes or is too warm. There's only two tiny dessert bowls, only three side plates, two not very good pots, blunt carving knives with no knife sharpener, only one tea towel provided etc etc. it's just not well set up for self catering clients beyond basic needs. The top bedroom mattress was just ok, but the downstairs bedroom mattress was really uncomfortable. Neither bed had a mattress protector which seems very unhygienic, and the top room has no wardrobe, just an odd niche high in one wall which for average height folk is a real struggle to use. The place is also quite cold and we were asked not to have the central heating too high because of the cost of gas. The open fire was lovely for upstairs but downstairs was really cold. So if you don't expect luxury or comfort, beyond basic, you won't be disappointed.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review and we are really happy that you loved the area as much as we do. Thank you also for the comments and points, these have been duly noted. As you know, we have just recently taken over the property and understand there are some improvements to be made. We are pleased to say this has already started, the new sun beds are sitting on the terrace as I write and the kitchen utensils have been replaced and updated. We hope you'll consider us again one day, there is always a warm welcome at Casa Cappellino.

Simply perfect!!

  • 5 of 5

There is nothing to dislike and so much to love about this delightful Tuscan villa. The interior is comfortable, especially the bed, and very tastefully decorated. The views are spectacular from just about every window and definitely from the large terrace; beautifully landscaped gardens, with ponds, vineyard, plants, trees and frolicking bunnies, and beyond, the house where Michelangelo was born and the glorious Tuscan countryside. Dennis and Kumiko are wonderful hosts; friendly, welcoming and even looked after our dog, a big hairy beast called Tinkerbell, for the day so we could go out for lunch. Nothing was too much trouble! In addition, their own dog, Max, was delightful and a constant companion and playmate for Tinkerbell. We'll definitely be returning to this perfect little piece of Tuscany!!

Perfect Tuscan getaway

  • 5 of 5

Perfect Tuscan vacation. We spent a week at Casa Cappellino and it was everything we had hoped for and more. The views of Tuscan rolling hills were spectacular from our villa. We overlooked Dennis' vineyard and beautiful gardens. Evenings were cool for sleeping and days were perfect.

We loved having Max visit us on the patio to watch the bunnies in the yard. Dennis and Kumiko were excellent hosts, giving us plenty of information before we arrived and were there to answer any questions during our stay.

Il Rifugio was a short walk down the road for an excellent dinner, and we could walk up the hill to Fragaiolo for a cappuccino and brioche for breakfast. Dennis arranged to have Maria come one night to teach us how to make a classic Tuscan meal. The day began by going to the local market to get all the fresh ingredients. Later in the afternoon we met to prepare a classic Tuscan dinner complete with homemade pasta and ragu sauce.

The location was great to take day trips for hiking, sight seeing or visiting local markets. We would go back again in a heartbeat.
