Two hardworking parents and a happy 12 year old make this place our home.
Cliff Shafer purchased this house in 2006
Built by owner for lifestyle and location.
Relaxed small town vibe; tropical breezes, unparalleled beach and ocean environment. Perfect place for a child to learn to ride a bike, swim, fly a kite, paddle a surfboard.
We arrived at the house a little earlier than check in after a long flight with kids. We were warmly greeted by Cliff's wife and daughter. The house was perfect for our needs and had plenty of room for us. This was our first trip to Hawaii and had family with us who stayed at another house close by. They come here every year and kept commenting that this house was the best they have seen in Kailua. It is a big spacious house that has great ammenities, a beautiful pool and is so close to the beach and the park. It also has AC, which may sound silly to some and I assumed it was standard because we are from New Orleans (it's a must there!) but it's not a necessity here. The kitchen is well stocked and even has two dishwashers which is helpful for large groups. The beds were comfy and there were plenty of bath towels and beach towels as well. The older boys loved using the pool everyday and just hanging out when we weren't running around. I can't say enough nice things about the house. It was perfect for our family and a great meeting spot for our extended family staying close by.
Cliff and his family stayed on the property in another house and it was nice to have them there if we had any questions. They came in and out through the side of the yard, which was very polite, but we wanted them to feel at home as well. Most importantly they are such a nice family and we appreciated their hospitality. We hope to return again one day. It was such a nice trip - even the jet lag!
Our stay at the Beachside home was delightful. Just a hop, skip and a jump over Kailua Beach Park and you're on the beach and in the surf. Lots of room to spread out, beautiful large kitchen, lovely view from the second floor - instant relaxation. Having the bike trail so close to the house was great - we spent lots of time taking beautiful walks there, and Cornelia, the sweet little hen, was a hit with the children and adults alike. The owners were very accommodating and were quick to address a problem with the pool. All the interior doors are louvered, so sound carries easily, which was a bit of a problem because the baby wasn't feeling well and cried a lot. More cleaning supplies would be good (my family is somewhat fastidious). Overall, we had a wonderful vacation.
I can't say enough about this first class home on the quiet side of Oahu. There were 3 generations of family members ages 3-69 sharing this beautiful home and there was plenty of room for everyone to congregate as well as finding places to be alone. The beach, which the 3 grandchildren thoroughly enjoyed, was a 1 minute walk from the house. When they tired of the beach, we simply walked home, took an outdoor shower and jumped into the pool. The resident chicken was a hit with the children, so much so that they are now hounding their parents to buy them a chicken. The owners were great from the beginning of reservation process to the day we left. They answered every question quickly and gave great instructions for best use of home and area. We made good use of the beautiful kitchen and BBQ for dinners each evening which made this feel just like home. It was a sad day when we had to pack up and leave, but we hope to return to our home away from home next year. Thank you, owners, for sharing your treasure with us.
I wanted a special way to celebrate my upcoming 70th birthday with my children & grandchildren. There were 10 of us - 5 adults & 5 grandchildren ranging in age from 3 to 12 so we wanted a pool as well as beach access. This home far exceeded our expectations in comfort and location. There was plenty of room for us whether inside or out. Temperatures were warm while we were there & it was wonderful having air conditioning throughout the house. It was perfect having the pool as the kids would start their day in the pool and then we'd take a 1 minute walk to the beach for a few hours. They'd head straight for the pool as soon as we returned to the house. We were so close that we could go back & forth as needed. It was great not having to load everyone in cars to drive to the beach. It was helpful having outdoor faucets & a pool house with a warm water shower to rinse sand off and hang our bathing suits and towels.
We made daily trips to the market around the corner for great coffee & food items. Island Snow was also a daily destination for the best Shave Ice. We tried a few restaurants in the are and were very pleased. We also enjoyed having a gorgeous kitchen & barbecue for cooking at home - it truly felt like home! And of course, I have to mention Cornelia - the resident chicken. She stole our hearts. She is so friendly & cuddly that the kids all wanted to bring her home. The previous review covers all the same elements that made this such a wonderful trip for my family. The owners were great - quick responses to my questions & very helpful with recommendations. Thanks to them, we've had a very memorable Hawaiian vacation.
We stayed at this wonderful home during the Christmas/New Year time 2014/2015. It is a great house for a large family or multiple smaller parties as is offers plenty of room indoors and out - we were 10 and it never felt crowded. The house itself has a great flow and was built by the owner himself - large common rooms (including an epic master suit with huge walk in closet, desks, separate shower and tub etc.). We cooked a lot and loved the outdoor BBQ and patio. The pool was a bit cold due to the cooler weather during our stay, but I understand the owner is going to install a heater system. The separate little pool house with shower and toilet was convenient too, so we could leave all the wet bathing suits outside.
The location is perfect - just a quick 1 min walk to the beach through the park. There is a great market and coffee place just around the corner where we walked to almost every day (with a 3 year old, so no long distance). The shave ice store is, of course, famous and amazing and not to be missed. Buzz's cross the bridge is also a quick walk and has some nice food, especially for appetizers and cocktails. Nice hikes close by and great location to start exploring the island from.
The beach itself is one of the nicest I have ever been to (and I have traveled a lot!). Gentle waves even in winter, but just enough of a surf for kids to do a bit of boogie boarding. Softest sand ever. And for the sun-conscious - lot's of shade if you want it.
Another huge plus - the super cute resident chicken (Cornelia) - who kept our daughter entertained all day, every day! So gentle and sweet.
Last but not least, the were lucky enough to meet the owners at the beginning and end of our stay - a wonderful family who will go above and beyond to make you comfortable. We communicated all the time during our stay (questions about how something works, small things that needed fixing, etc.) and they were amazingly helpful and responsive. During a storm when the power went out in the region the next door neighbor even came by and dropped off lanterns just to make sure his neighbor's guests were comfortable and well taken care of! We'd be back, just to see them again!
